No idea. Depends on how they fixed the design (if this is one that was redesigned). If it wasn't redesigned, then it should be close.

Either way, getting backlash where it started will put the contact pattern back where it was.

 

Added a sticker I ordered five years ago that's been in all three vehicle glove boxes while waiting for Pops. Him, and I are going to a junkyard to get parts for his truck. We're also looking for corolla parts.

That sounds so cool to me. For one, no one has basements in my part of the state because gulf coast. So I have a fascination with basements. Now factor in this basement includes the garage and an intricate sounding ventilation system and you've really got my attention. What ever a data room is... I imagine it's a server room. Probably for Skynet or the Dudesy AI or Nothing Forever AI. You robosexual apocalyptic bastard!

 

When I've switched on high mile vehicles I've gotten weeps or leaks. Back to high mileage oils & it stops.
I buy/drive old vehicles & thus avoid synth as much as possible unless previous owner was running it, then I'll continue on as.

Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum (not the forum actually, rather the supermarket...and on the way home, and not on the way) and, actually not so funny...backing out of my space I hit the brakes, and the pedal went straight to the floor! Aaah! Scary!. I tried pumping it up, but it wouldn't hold pressure. So I limped home on the back roads using my ebrake (which I have been nearly obsessive about using every day to keep the rears adjusted) and this is what I found:


Alright, it could have been worse, I suppose...I could have wrecked and died had this happened while I was in traffic. So now I'll check the parts system to see if I can still buy this hard line, or if I have to make one

Q: I thought the idea of a dual brake system was so that if just such a failure occurred, the side that wasn't leaking (in this case the rear) would still work? Does this mean I may need a new MC too?



Edit: The hard line appears to be p/n 473170C011, and appears to be available.

2nd Edit: OK, I lied...when my helper (rather my wife) got home I was able to observe the leak, and it's this long squiggly line that runs all the way to the ABS. Thankfully, that too is available. Now I just nee to wait 'til Tuesday for parts <sigh>

Honestly, it's just a closet under a staircase with communications/etc. It's pretty much the digital brains of our house. I have an Enterprise-level setup in the house, Fortinet firewall, Ubiquiti gigabit core, Ubiquiti PoE wifi access points and controller, NVR & CCTV, alarm system, and a few segregated smart devices ... the house is well-wired. I can usually keep internet, wifi, and cameras up for at least 20-25 minutes during power outages while everyone else flounders and it notifies me when shit goes awry.

Back in the day it looked like this. After remodeling the basement, I opted to move into a proper rack and it looks similar to this now. The QNAP box you see in that pic is what took a shit this week. It'd been running 24/7/365 since 2016 and finally gave up the ghost. It's family data storage, used also to host VMs for household functions, and I keep a private Minecraft server running for the kids to goof off, in a safe place, where strangers can't just come on and blow it all up.

$1,200 later and now it looks like the pic below. Wiring still needs cleanup. There was a thread media/data closet setups a loooong time ago I stumbled across a while back (link). A lot of other people are tuned in on Ubiquiti, IIRC @bmf4069 is one of them. It's what I install on my side hustle for local food/drink places. Quality is honestly better than Cisco at a fraction of the cost. Great support, and really viable for the spectrum of residential to small-medium sized businesses.

I don't know what half of that meant, but I like it and I'm impressed and I will learn more about this stuff when I go back to school.

 

Bought a 90915-YDDZ3 oil filter today. $7.05 with tax! Time to start thinking about buying in bulk.

 

No hood for me at either yard. All four corollas we looked at had serious crunch tater-isms on the front end. Hood for Pops.

I got a bunch of screws and shit. Some Tundra stuff. Not much.

 

Don’t you need good airflow for the NAS with all those fans blowing in the back? Sticking it in a closet under the stairs doesn’t seem to help if that’s what I’m looking at here. Must get pretty warm in there.

I’m sure shifty(haha I can’t spell) has binford5000 that thing……

 

NAS has great airflow internally. The rack itself is open-bottom and open-top, the hot exhaust creates a natural updraft. There's an Airframe T77 exhaust fan just above the rack which pushes hot air from the top of the room out into the garage, and I have a large floor vent along at the base of the stairs to the right which pulls cool air from the floor (they're at opposite sides to create a cross-draft). The void between the studs probably helps lift air up and out also.

Basically, the entire closet is laid out to promote a wind tunnel effect. The space around it is climate-controlled, so the vent in the stairs pulls from an area that stays in a fixed temp range, usually between 66°-72° year round. Pic is worth a thousand words, this is the setup:

If you look on the shelf to the left in those pics, you'll see a weather station/temp gauge. It rarely gets above 72°. Here are some pics of the gauge and the setup... you tell me, does the room look hot?

Same concepts as home audio closets. Always pull from the bottom, exhaust from the top.

Most people don't have $5k+ of technology hardware in their basement closet to avoid frying and buying anew. The cooling model in the closet is similar to the cooling design inside the NAS itself, funny enough.

 

Yeah, I had air intake on the first two risers and then exhaust up high, sealed the stud bay and did a duct fan from the bottom out to the exterior next to the dryer ducting. Worked well.

but I cheaped out on drives so my nas blew up while I was in London and I lost all my old photos. So now I just say, f it, no data is worth keeping . I’m not much for digital bits.

 

I won't even get into backups. My backups have backups. It's stupid.

 

I’ve just reached the conclusion that one drive is better than a nas. But even better is zero drives. F it, not worth the time / cost / headache.

 

Holy smokes @w666 glad you’re ok that buddy of mine I was helping with brakes yesterday didn’t want to listen when me and another friend were telling him he needed to bleed the f out those brakes after we changed a caliper that was seized…I was standing on the brakes and the rears were still spinning, but he has no parking brake anymore so he would’ve been completely screwed.



Used the truck to take my 8ft John boat to a local pond and entertain my 3 year old with some “fishing” it was a good time until my trolling motor battery crapped out on me and I had to row us back to shore so she could use the bathroom hahahaha good times, I’ve been fishing out of that boat for about 27 years so I was happy just to get it on the water with the next generation.

 

Nothing spectacular; just changed my oil.

It’s interesting that when you own your vehicle long enough, you can subtly tell when’s it’s not running smoothly both in pedal feedback and engine noise during acceleration. A simple change of oil fixed that problem.

 

You know, I heard about TS2 from previous posts from you guys awhile back and wasnt really sure what it was exactly. Is it a camping retreat with FGTs and doing some offroading? Cuz that does sound fun and seeing it come up in the forum yesterday made me think... Maybe I could make it. What are the dates and location? I will say though, Ive been wanting to explore Northern California and Oregon for a long time.

 

Changed mine today as well with Full Synthetic this time. Hopefully no leaks!

Very cool, I just looked it up thanks for the links! Seeing that its not until the end of the month, I might be able to make it atleast for a day or two. Im leaving for my trip sometime next week so I'll see where I end up and might try to make it to T2S on my way back. Hopefully see you guys there!

 

For T2S registration, what would I pick if i want to camp in my truck at the event? Tent Site or Trailer site? Im not sure ill be able to make it for the overland option, but would be interested in camping at the group site on Friday.
