Swapped out my old dashcam to a Thinkware F200 Pro. Hoping this thing has some better image quality and can double as a trail camera.

 

Moved the main camera over a bit - the spot I originally used completely blocked the auto dimming sensor on the mirror, and also got it a little more centered this way. All functions tested good and the video quality is pretty nice. It’s not cinema quality, but should be good enough for accident insurance, and also action shots/stills on the trails.

 

Now I have a new brand to consider against BlackVue when I pull the trigger. I wish someone made dash cams with remote storage. I'd like to use SSD and mount it in the console safe.

 

Don't quote me but I believe the ring cam does cloud storage.

 

Interesting - - hadn't heard of that before. Looks like it needs more development, but it looks promising.

 

I had the opportunity to beta test the Ring car cam… I’d suggest avoiding that one. I’m sure they’ve worked out some of the software bugs, but my biggest gripe is the placement at the bottom of the windshield. It’s annoying to look at, but the bigger problem is the camera getting roasted when putting a sunshade up in the summer.

 

I have a Ring doorbell and another cam in the garage, and they're great. Side advice, don't keep your garage clicker in your truck if you park it outside, and don't hook up Homelink or whatever unless it requires the ignition to be on. I had my best-gen broken into 7 or 8 years ago, and the thief got into the garage. Stole some running shoes and rifled through my wife's 4R; but by sheer luck and possibly one glass of whisky, he lived through it.

 

I can imagine the angle isn't optimal either.

I had forgotten about this. I don’t park outside too often, but that’s definitely a concern when I do. I’ve had the diagram for the mirror harness pulled up for other projects, so I’ll find that and see how easy it is to repin that connector, using a jumper to provide ign power to the constant one.

 

I remember someone's post a year or more ago doing just that. Not sure why car makers wouldn't do it that way to begin with...

All of our Subarus are ignition-power. Our Mazda CX-9 was too. Just the Toyotas…

This would be perfect.

 

Pulled off the rear mudflaps and pushed the fender liner brackets back a little to avoid what looked like some potential rub points at full stuff. It may have been a non-issue but I feel better now

Also installed a cheap trash bin on the bed rails. I just need to find a small bungee cord to run over the top to keep the (soda) cans in while romping in the desert.
