What about batteries? Can we fit a group 31 in? And then do we have to do some diode hack to get proper charging voltage?

For the proper charge voltage on an AGM yes you’ll need a diode. But you have to order the one crash has linked on TW. Then GM diode won’t fit our trucks

    27f for sure. Maybe a 31? Honestly I’d do a 27f and a second remote mounted battery

Just so much extra headache going dual battery though. Maybe I’ll try a 31 and swap to the Taco if it doesn’t fit decently well.

That extra weight on the apron like that leads to cracks. That’s the only reason I’m hesitant

Won't fit earlier model (00-02) Tundra? Or all 1st gen? This person (26239) claims to be using it, they show an '05 in their profile. "This is the part number for that GM diode. 12135037" is what they mentioned further down the thread.

The GM diode I had would not fit my 05. It fit my Avalon with the micro fuses. Apparently there’s a Ford part that works in the mini fuse slots

Well, for $6.42 shipped from RockAuto, I'm going to test on my truck. Your truck doesn't use microfuse for the S-Alt? The part number @Thrussn listed appears mini-fuse sized.

Receipt is below, but this is the part I bought from RockAuto (listing shown is from GM Parts Giant):

    upload_2021-10-24_17-56-45.jpg

And this is my receipt, shipping was about the same as the part, around $2.95 average.

And don't ask me why it's called "A/C Compressor Clutch Coil Connector" at RockAuto. Seems different sites list it as different things.

I suspect this is probably used in more than one way in GM vehicles, generally serving as a diode.

I'm wondering if it provides any safety features like the Australian unit, though.

Given the alternator swap, should we also upgrade our alternator fuse to 150 amp?

Thank you very much for this detailed write-up! saved my bacon today. I was in need of an alternator and went to pick n pull to grab one off 03' Sequoia and didn't realize it was different till I saw the square plug So since I already had it off I googled it at the scrap yard and found your post! Woohoooooo! Took the thing home for $30....de-pinned my connector and did the swap and now I'm all set! Thanks again. My 00' Tundra is alive and well again lol

so technically no.. the fuse in the fuse block is to protect the bus bar in said block. if you do a big 3 and run straight to the battery a larger than 150 amp fuse would be ideal for the one to said battery

I know that PHM is no longer with us... or is he? :tinfoilhat:

Anyways, @shifty` @empty_lord and @daveeasa helped me look for these part numbers to add the "third stud" to the 2000-2002 engine block for the third ear on the 150 amp alternator. Meaning this becomes more of a bolt on upgrade eliminating the need to cut the third ear off. Posts begin here, with pictures I stole from youboob here, and continue on to my order post.

As of THIS post, the part numbers below are unconfirmed, but I'll update once the nut, and the bolt get here.

    Toyota part numbers below.
    Nut Flange: 90178-A0089
    Bolt: 90068-04019

This is a link to the square connector that you'll need to re-pin from your old oval plug. Link courtesy of @daveeasa which he supplied on my crackhead thread, here.

So, the parts came in. The nut was correct, but the stud was wrong. I have no idea what this is for, but here's my "unwrapping" post showing each part. @des2mtn thinks that the stud is for a Sienna.

Thanks to @assassin10000... we now have the correct part number for that stud. Here's his post where the below image came.
    upload_2022-11-19_19-22-22.png

So the Part numbers you'll need for the stud are 90109-08298, and the nut is 90178-A0089.

I was able to lop the third ear off, and install my 100 amp newer alternator anyways today. Here's my post about it. Again, huge thanks to @shifty` for gifting me his cracked alternator for crackie!. Merry Christmas to y'all! :santa2:

I'm glad to be rid of the flickering interior lights!

Stock connection in my 2002 AC from the battery to the frame is right next to the battery. Any reason to choose another spot. Also, best ground spot on engine?

Noah, if those parts were correct, why did you end up cutting the ear off? I'm in the same boat as you with my 02 and @daveeasa is encouraging me to upgrade to the big boy 150A.

The parts that I ordered initially were incorrect. I installed only using the two mounting points

So if I order the correct parts I can avoid having the cut off the 3rd ear?

@FirstGenVol these are correct. I thought in the earlier quote from you that you quoted my first, initial post.
