    Thanks. That’s good to know.
I’m going to add a power lock on my tailgate.

That piece that overlaps the tailgate is usually just plastic and also usually will just fall off without much effort and hardly a security device at all in fact they call it a Sweep and it is just to keep water out which they rarely really do well either?!

I also needed a new sweep for a shell and trust me you do not want to have to find and pay for a new one if you dont have to.

I used to leave my tailgate and cap unlocked but supposedly tailgates are a popular target for thieves right now.

Ordered a Leer 100R cap the other day. I don't see very many people with the 100R, so I'll be sure to post pictures once it is installed.
I am looking to get a little more height out of the rear end to compensate for any bed sag that might occur. A little rake would be nice.
    Any suggestions?

I posted a thread earlier with more details on my current setup and what I am considering.

Welcome from South Carolina and Congrats on your Leer 100R purchase!
I like the CB shackles better, but installed a cheaper set of 1.5" shackles that work just fine for now. It only took a short time to install and I can swap up for the CB's later or modify the leaf springs. Seems the AAL leaf spring work might be a little more involved and I'm going to try to keep the shackles and see how they do with the added weight of the XR100 Leer top I recently ordered.

I think shackles are the more practical choice for sure. Fox claims the rear shock is compatible with a 1" lift. So if the cap squats the bed about -.25", it would be safe to run the CB +2 (+1.25"), right?
I've been searching this forum for a while now, and I can't seem to find anyone with this setup - Fox 2.0 & CB+2, or Fox 2.0 & Icon 1.5 AAL

Has anyone measured how much the bed dropped once the cap was added?

I don’t know about your specific application, but adding extended shackles will increase the movement range between the frame and rear axle. Your bed cap weight won’t have any effect on this range when your rear wheel is at full articulation on either side. Your leaf springs need to limit the rear axle travel before the rear shock piston bottoms out. Unless you get into situations where you are close to full articulation, I doubt you would have problems using the CB shackles.

No, buy a pop and lock, or fab your own. If anything the cap door will be the weak point of the two. Both my cap and tailgate lock with passenger door. WELL worth the time and $.

Thanks for the advice. The price is a little more, but going to install the OEM power lock this weekend.

I've had my SmartCap a year now and love it. I had it off for a month to have a bed repair done and my life was in disarray. HA!

Congrats. That cap looks perfect on your MGM Tundra. I couldn't quite get there on my 040 Super White though. Maybe they will color match one day.

Thanks. Yeah, I must admit that I believe the matte black cap looks awesome on everything, but white is pushing it. But still pretty cool to me. It's just a different look. Now that I'm used to it, color-matched ones look bizarre to me. There ARE a number of people out there who have had their SmartCaps color matched at body shops and they're happy with them. I kinda think they can end up looking like a contractor's truck though, if you're not careful. It's a fine line.

You mean it might look too much like you get work done with the truck?

I just wish they made them for a Long Bed so I could be happy that I dont want to spend that kind of money for a Top!:p

Well, the painted smartcaps I’ve seen look more like some kind of pest control national chain vehicle or something like that. Definitely getting work done but not the look I’m personally going for. To each their own though!

On the long beds, you’re not the only one. That’s the number one complaint to RSI that I’m seeing.

On the price, I had specced out some overlanding ARE thing with a better roof capacity, rack track, etc. that was coming in just over $3k the way I wanted it. Was going to require a drive up I35 to have installed and I wasn’t too excited about what I was hearing from the owner between him saying it could damage my bed, it would probably leak, and he REFUSED to paint it matte black for fear I’d return it. He told me to sleep on it before putting down my deposit and that night my buddy sent me the link to RSI and I was sold. At the time they were running a preorder promotion that made it cheaper if you could wait 2 months. And for the work I do, 2 or 3 dudes being able to walk around on top and cut limbs out on ranches is kinda badass.

I have a bad feeling that if they made one for my LB I might have to jump in too.

And last week some idiot called it a Dog Catcher top!

    Truth hurts I guess.

Got my Leer cap back from paint today, absolutely in love with it! Now time to figure out my setup for the bed. Thinking about a custom set of drawers.

Does anyone know how the build quality of Ranch camper shells are compared to Leer and ARE? It's a Ranch Sierra Extra no damage to interior or windows, original keys included, but so far the buyer threw out a number for $1200...Looks like a higher grade model they make, and it's in excellent condition. I will likely paint it black, and do a round trip of 6 hours for it...

    *** Update ***

I went for it, it’s a Ranch Sierra Extra with carpet inside and some led lights with original keys in excellent condition. New was about $1900 plus tax a couple years ago.

Offered $800 and we had a deal. Super nice couple. The seller told me an old timer recommended Ranch as being comparable to Leer and is usually more reasonably priced. the build quality looked excellent upon first impressions.

I've always thought of shells (or caps) as a great way to make a really big stereo system, using the back window as a blow through, and still be able to keep all your cabin space :) Who needs a bed ? Just get a trailer for utility work.

But, at the same time, I have been saying I will never own another vehicle that is not at least a Hybrid, if not all electric.... and at least for a while, really strong stereo systems, are kind of at a sticking point... with the dinky little inverters that hybrids are using :( Hoping at some point aftermarket manufacturers start making high powered inverter replacements...
