I'll be replacing the Entune HU in my JBL Equipped 2021 TRD Pro. I have on the way:

    Kenwood DMX1037S
    Metra 99-8252 Dash Kit
    Maestro RR2
    HRN-RR-TO3 Wiring Harness
    ACC-SAT-TO2 Factory GPS Adapter
    UTO3 Factory USB Adapter
    40-LX11 Antenna Adapter

According to Crutchfield, that's all I need. Just wanted to double check if anyone has any "oops, you also need {this}" items.

Has anyone confirmed that the blue antenna wire is needed on the 2020+ models with the "shark fin" antenna?

Anyone have a good route to get from the back of the radio to the ODB2 at the footwell?

    Any other installation suggestions?

Yes, speakers will be in October...

It's easy to route the wire to the obdII port, just go over the steering column and plug er in.

The factory mic is a bit if a pain to route to the factory location if you wan to put it there.

I plan on putting it at the top of the driver's side pillar. Saw someone else do it that way and said it worked great. The reason I asked about the ODB2 is a video I saw where a guy drilled holes and routed it weird through the accessory port area. Looked like a dumb idea.

Not hardware related, but a good set of panel tools. Also, find a parts diagram, dealer sites have them, and gather part numbers for the assorted plastic fasteners. Most can be had on Amazon fairly cheaply. Lay in a small supply so when you have a whoops you don't have to run to a parts store and try to match.

i just went up and around the steering column if i remember correctly....pretty much a straight shot from the back of the radio.

its difficult to get all the wiring tucked behind the head unit so pull the center speaker and grill off and then you can get your arm in there to tuck it all in.

Have a fish tape handy to run the mic from the center of the dash to the pillar, it was a little bit difficult.

You don't use the OBD plug that comes with the Maestro. You will not use most of the cables that come with the kit.

Does that head unit have a built in satellite tuner? If not, you will need an external tuner. IIRC, the blue wire did not get used.

The ODB2 displays vehicle information... Unless I'm missing something, I plan to use that.

I do not plan to use the XM radio so I chose not to get the tuner.

The vehicle information will go through the data cable in the kit, therefore you don't need the obd connector. I found this out when I was doing the install in my 2020. I will have to find it but I posted a pic showing the cables that are not used. The Maestro kits are packed as a "one stop shop" to cover most vehicles, so many cables are just extra parts for most installs.

You will get the directions from the idatalink site and it's based on what your stock setup is...JBl with amp, non JBl with amp, etc. They make it more difficult than it needs to be. I downloaded the instructions for each option and the wiring was exactly the same for all of them. :notsure: I went from non JBL with amp to a Pioneer with aftermarket amps.

Sorry to bother you... When you upgraded did you use the am/fm antenna adapter and if so, did you need to connect the blue wire?

Yes I used the adapter but the blue wire was not used. I think that wire is for a power antenna. I'm not sure what the issue (I think it is the shark fin antenna design) is but I have hardly any FM reception at all. That is a complaint among quite a few here in the forum.

Question on the aftermarket headunit. Will it still allow you to use your Toyota connect to start your car from your phone? I’m still debating if I want to go aftermarket headunit or not.

I have read that it does still work, but I guess I'll find out. I have no intention of paying the $8/mo starting next year. I do have an aftermarket start ready to go when that time comes or if this HU upgrade breaks the remote start.

Since I'm only replacing the head unit, my intention is to do a full review of what just that part of the upgrade gets people. There's a lot of various information spread throughout all sorts of posts everywhere. I intend to answer all of the questions I had all in one place.

Thanks. I’m going to do a whole audio build. I’m looking at the Kenwood ddx9907xr. I know it pricey and for a little more I can get the headunit you are getting. But this one has CD and DVD. I still like listening to CD’s best sound you can here. Still up in the air.

I hear ya there, definitely better sound quality. But, I've gone down the spotify hole and sold off all my CDs. I want AA Wireless, so that's the HU I went with. I also didn't want to go down in screen size. I'll be doing the Tech12Volts speaker/amp/sub package in October. Outlaying nearly $3000 for audio wasn't a priority so I have to wait for quarterly bonuses to get it through the budget.

EDIT: A volume nob was also kind of a priority for me. I know the steering wheel controls will work, but they aren't as fast as just reaching over and turning it all down ASAP.

Sounds good dude. Yeah with all of the builds I have had over the years I don’t rush into it. For now I’m using pretty much either my XM or Apple Music. I like that big screen tho. That is very nice. I’m also in touch with James because I’m going to get stuff from him and my audio guy who owns the store and his installer will do everything. I’m friends with them and they have done all my builds for over 20 years. I’m just not rushing into this till I know for sure and do all my homework which way I will go.

I'll have to find more information on this bluetooth dongle you speak of. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. Unless you mean a bluetooth ODBII reader, I have one of those.

EDIT: Is there any reason you used the radio GPS instead of the factory GPS adapter?

Yes, I mean OBDII BT dongle

As for the GPS, it came for free with the Kenwood and there are many reports of better performance with it compared to the OEM.

@BrakeDust I installed my Maestro RR2 and Kenwood 1037s, keeping the JBL amp and speakers (for now). Couple issues I have wondering if you could point me in the right direction...

No radio, whatsoever. Hit scan and it finds nothing going all the way through the bands. I tested the factory HU and had no problem getting radio. I'm using the metra adapter above, not really anything to it I don't think... I have no control of car settings (such as beeps, press to unlock options, etc). The menu is completely greyed out.

And yeah, clicking the AA app every f'ing time is obnoxious. I was hoping I could assign a button to it using the RR2 but that isn't possible I guess.

Thanks for all your work on this model and helping the forum out!

Confirmed this does work after replacing the HU. The app still remote starts and locks/unlocks the vehicle as well as the 3 button press on the fob.

    No radio station.
Did you connect the blue wire on the antenna adapter to power?
There should be a power antenna wire on your T03 harness and kenwood. Pick one and connect to it.

Above I was told not to by BrakeDust. It is the shark fin style antenna not a retractable antenna.

As for the factory settings, I guess you can't adjust those while in accessory mode. Once I started the vehicle, it worked as expected.

There was another guy that thought his truck doesnt have power antenna. Guess what happened after he connect that blue wire?
    Got radio.
You can disconnect it afterwards if it doesnt work.

    worth a try.

After driving around, I do have FM, but zero in my garage. Previously it did work in my garage. I haven't quite buttoned it up yet so I'll pull it out and see if I can find the wire. I didn't see one specifically, though the Maestro instructions aren't great.

Pull it from the kenwood harness if you dont see it on the Maestro harness.

Confirmed! Awesome! With the blue wire attached I get the full range of stations even inside my garage. Without, it was staticky outside and zero inside. I'll add it to my writeup when all is done.
