Excellent write-up and pics! Thanks for doing that. I intend to install mine with the TRD Pro skid plate, so I realize my install will be a bit different for the front plate, but your write-up is very helpful.

So a few fixes, first you should have spacers installed for 4wd. Second the little black transfer case skid needs to be removed. Otherwise it looks good. With the supplied hardware, the 5/8’s bolts holt the front plate up pretty well, although, on the clear coated plates, I have had issues with the plates wanting to slide out

What are the spacers used for? Drainage? I saw it in your install guide but couldn't figure out why "one spacer" would be mentioned if there are 2 rear bolts for the front plate.

I didn't notice the transfer case skid so I will look at that later this week, hopefully under a lift and can take better pictures while I'm at it. I don't remember seeing any interference with the rear plate though.

I can guarantee your rear cat plate is laying on that skid plate and you will probably have some noises

Now you're teasing me to get under the truck today.

Also need more background on the use/purpose of the spacers.

It is only there for the 4x4 vehicles to space the rear plate to clear the transfer case

I'll look this afternoon, install a spacers for each rear bolt on the front plate regardless of what I see, update the install guide and report back.

So which one is the better to go with? Steel is obviously heavier and I would assume harder to get past, but is also cheaper. Aluminum is lighter, easier to install and costs more? I'm lost as to which one to go with.

Then the "front" covers the first two cats and the "rear" cover the 2nd set, right?

Yes, the black factory transfer case skid was pressing against the rear plate (pic below). Didn't notice that until you mentioned it here and I think it was talked in prior pages of this thread but it was so long ago when I've read that. I now have that removed and sitting in a storage parts box.

Tyler, what spacers exactly are you talking about? I dont recall getting any when i order the plates. Are these only necessary if you keep the transfer case skid from the factory in place? I removed mine when i did the install and did not use spacers, i dont notice any noises at all.....

Based on post #404 I believe you ordered both the front and rear plates for your 4x4 so unless steel plates don't need a spacer maybe this wasn't thought of until a month later. I suspect it isn't a big deal not having the spacers installed as I can imagine there being enough clearance with the black factory transfer case skid removed.

I specifically call out the use of the spacers in my install guide above if you're wondering what it looks like. You can always check above your rear plate to confirm it's not in contact with the transfer case to be sure.

Just looked at your write up and I did not get those spacers. Doesnt seem like it matters though as I have not noticed any sounds. I will have to check the clearance now though as I am curious.

You should have gotten some square spacers with holes in them, if you didn’t and you are having issues with contact with the transfer case, let me know. I can send out new spacers

I only got the 4 large, square plates that go on top of the crossmembers to hold the plates in. I didnt get the 2 smaller sized square spacers like in the writeup above. Could you send them to me sometime soon when you have a chance? I am going to be likely taking off at least the rear plate to install cali raised sliders in the next month or so, i can pop them in then....

The square spacers in this picture are the ones I am talking about, I think you do have them from your description

I just have the regular sr5 front skid plate. When changing my oil, would have to drop the Valhalla front and rear as well ? Sorry, for the dumb question. Can’t tell in the pictures and I’m pretty sure gonna order both. Planning on keeping my truck for a long time. Peace of mind type mod.

The Valhalla plates are well behind the regular SR5 skid plate. Here is a picture from @paulbk in his post. The regular skid is shown at the far left of the image. In any case, for the OEM, non-TRD skid there is a gap.

You'll be able to change the oil since that isn't close to being covered by the cat plates. On my stock 2011 4x4 I have to remove the front skid plate to change the oil which is quite a bit forward of the cat plates. If I ever get on my truck on a lift I can take a nice undercarriage photo that should help show coverage.

Here's a quick underside pic showing the oil drain plug in front of the front cat plate (bottom of the pic) and behind the front skid (top of the pic). The factory front skid is what needs to be removed to get to the oil filter.

Oh, ok, well i used these not in between the skid and the crossmember, but on the top of the crossmember, thought it was for strength/retention.

Just ordered the front aluminum skid. What are the odds it will arrive and in good condition.....Nothing I have ordered of any weight or value has arrived via UPS or Fedex in good condition. Even today, rear bumper is lost. Last week the front bumper arrived damaged. 13 for 13 via shipping companies.

Tyler goes full retard on packaging so I think you should be fine. Mine was steel and while the box was beat up, no issues with product.

Anybody interested in a group buy for the security torx screws from Screwd?

Based on my address, tax is $23.68 and shipping is $6.41 (I'm actually local to them in Arizona)

    Total for me is $333.83.

Subtract out shipping to me, the new total is 327.42. Divide by 5 (including me) that is $65.48. I don't know how much shipping is from me to you, but @MoonRock2021 was able to get them shipped for $65.00.

@MoonRock2021 how were you able to get the math worked out to $65 shipped? Inquiring mind wants to know.
