Well there you have it. That is one tough pull with any weight, let alone 8k lbs in a 1/2 ton. I would like to see them pull it when ambient is 70+*F or more. Right now on Vail Pass the ambient temperatures have been rather cool. Vail, CO this past couple weeks was ~52*F and the summit of Vail Pass was ~38*F(and some dipping into freezing). On my many trips over this pass, I have seen 70+*F at 10000 ft elevation.

What did people think of the review (except you @Mad Max..:D)? Tundra did pretty damn good and was complimented a lot in the review except for transmission temps.

I was a little shocked/disappointed that little 5.3L beat the Tundra up the pass in every category.

2022 Tundra...I have big expectations out of you and better not disappoint.

Made it 1/2 way through and now it says video unavailable? No warning lights on Tundra though. 246 degrees at the top.

Probably doing additional editing. I’ll have to watch it again to see.

You can hear it haunting for gears , looks like he was towing on D , wonder if he kept it on s4 or maybe s3 if it was gonna make a difference

That was shifting from 4-3, and I’ve done it both ways. No difference other than shifting yourself.

It is a little disappointing for sure to see these high temps , however , I would imagine keeping it at s3 and at 45mph , It wouldn't heat up as much. Wish they showed how long it took to cool down after they reached the top

Also it would be good if they test the f150 since no external cooler starting 2018 model

Probably 5-10min at standstill and less if moving.

Does putting it in P or N makes any difference to cool it down when you're still ? Or doesn't matter as long as you remove it from D or S mode ?

Did you connect it to truck and let it search for PID? When making a new gauge you select PID then select Toyota,Lexus, Scion then select engine and electronic controlled transmission

It depends on how the valve body is set up, but neutral is normally the better selection.

Thanks for doing that. Be interested seeing your results on a truck that is used off-road that is set up really nice (read heavier, but still awesome).

Obd reader and obd fusion app and purchase the extra Toyota pids for your truck and customize what you want to monitor , you will be surprised with the tons of sensors you can customize, totally worth the 10$

I’m able to read it using OBD fusion and a Bluetooth adapter. Have to have the advanced diagnostic pack for your year though

So how did the 5.3 beat it? Better time, Fuel mileage? Looks like from video post (I didn't see video) temps 246F at top at 45f ambient, torque converter must been 270F? I would never pull more than 8,000lb with any 1/2 ton. I usually go to Florida last week of June, Houston to Destin, temps are 95F, probably 100F heat coming off highway lol. Truth be told I stopped looking at this thread after I installed cooler, mine pegs at 188F around town and 194F Highway (80mph). I Pulled by 5,500lb boat yesterday as test but it was only 74F and trans temps with cooler were still 194F what a bore, need a 90F day to really test. Obviously that is flat ground at 74mph. I kept in drive but S5 would been right gear. I was just messing around for only about 15 miles, I forgot to use tow haul mode, although that is twitchy to me. I had zero issues pulling boat, no sway, good acceleration, no braking issues. Cant wait to see video. I saw another on Youtube where Toyota gave a farmer a Tundra for two years. He beat hell out of and put 100K miles, overloaded constantly. Toyota took apart, most components should zero wear. I saw that I knew I had right truck.

Thanks, but I'm already spending time and money on something that doesn't affect me - not really interested in spending more lol - curiosity has the best of me

I'll reach out to some locals, see if anyone has Fusion and go from there. Thanks for the insight.

Where's the TFL video, why did they pull it down so suddenly? Something is up.
