I was thinking about leveling my 2010, but will a 2 inch leveling cause the rack to fail prematurely??

Ohhffff 3k thats rough. Still even at 2k a couple days off of work might be worth it unless you make 2k in those couple days... .

I know this thread hella old at this point just cruisen the forum. Got to pull my Rack and pinion here in a couple days needs new mounting bushings. Things starting to twerk. Have some Energy Suspension poly bushings coming.

Also saw the part of expensive water pump. I did mime after what the dealer ship told me the price was. Came to find out after i was in their the small leak was from a bolt that goes into the water jacket could of just pulled the bolt an put new sealer on it. But i already had new aisin pump replacement. So it went it. Wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.

Heads up tho if your ever going to do the pump thats time if you want to put in a high amp alt.

Did the OP ever determine why the 2nd rack failed? I've heard good things about the Rack Doctor prior to this. @csuviper

This is an old thread. When the second went out I made the decision to trade the truck in. They took it as is with the blown stealing rack and I got good money for the truck on the trade. I do not know why it failed but since it happened so soon after the first I didn’t want to keep wasting money.

This is a great thread. Just blew out my rack doing a 3 point turn in a driveway, fluid pooled in the inner boot. I'm on vacation near Glacier, MT so can't do it myself. Shop said 20 hrs, WTF. I explained how to do fix it in 5-8 hours and they didn't believe me. After chatting with a dealership, a tech said to look up repair process for 2016+ and has new method that is 5.75hrs according to Toyota. They quotes $870 plus parts and alignment at the dealer. Told the shop to look up repair for 2016+ and all of a sudden the job went from pulling the engine and tranny (20hrs) to 6-8 hours. Thinking of saving the old one to rebuild myself to have a backup, anyone rebuild a rack before? Worth it. This thread and another saved me 12 hours of labor cost. Thanks guys.

On a side note I thought my wife’s Honda Odyssey’s power steering pump was going out and my mechanic said “always switch power steering fluid to Lucas” it did bring it back to life for 3 more years.

It doesn’t solve the rack issues but hope it can help someone.

Damn that would suck to deal with that whike on vacation. What size tires are you running and how many miles are on your truck?
