Why not HP Tuners and dyno tuning? Or are you just using the OV Tune for the shift features?

While there are guys in my area that have some experience with HP tuners, nobody has tuned a Tundra before. I didn't want to just get a basic fuel/timing tune and call it a day.
I wanted VVTi, transmission shift points, transmission pressure, speed limiter, rev limiter, torque converter lock, gear hold etc adjusted.
I figured it would take days for someone not familiar with the platform to figure all that out, which would cost a ton and risk blowing up my truck.
OVtune seemed like a better option - he said he can do all that for 600 buck and remotely, so that is what I went with.

Are you running the 76mm throttle body? RCF TB 84mm? or did you retrofit a LS TB?

I remember this was something that S/C'd 5VZ-FEs were trying as well. But the T-stats were usually available locally rather than custom. I also recall that bottom nut on the T-stat for our trucks being a little bugger to get to. Now it looks like you're really getting into uncharted territory.

So, I ended up getting an HP tuner and building a tune myself. (Should've listened to your wise words 2 months ago)
It literally took only one day and it is already much better than what I was getting from the tuner that I was using.
Next step is to get it on a dyno and get it perfectly dialed in!

Right on! Learning to tune can be a very rewarding experience! If you aren't already I definitely recommend joining the HPTuners forum. The Toyota tuning community is still pretty small but there are a couple guys who have figured out a fair bit about our ECMs so there is some very useful information that has been shared. As someone who's only tuned Chevy's until I bought my Tundra the way Toyota does certain things was not intuitive to me and they really helped me figure out the direction I needed to be going with my tune far easier than I would have on my own.

Will be hitting the dyno in the next few weeks or months, want to get my Meth injection sorted first so I can push some more ignition timing safely.
Would also like to see if playing with VVTi angles at WOT will make any more power and I cannot easily quantify that on the street.

The Toyota Repository thread and the posts by the guy named "SlowNStock" got me started in right direction for sure. I joined the forum a couple days ago under "ViktorG".

How is everything with the new thermostat? I also recently installed the mishimoto type, along with new rad hoses and clamps, and noticed a similar decrease in temps. Regarding your disadvantages in your video, how low of coolant temps would cause concern?

Some tables in the ECU don’t activate until the coolant temperature is at 80 C or above. Mine is normally between 78-83, so I went in with HPTuners and lowered those temperature thresholds to 75 C. Other than that, I’ve had absolutely no issues.

I’m trying to figure out a problem I’m having with the x runner and it keeps going into open loop and I don’t no why cruising down the high way. Hp tuners is a huge learning curve for me.

Deceleration fuel cutoff and power enrichment are both open loop fueling modes and will show in HPTuners scanner as OL Accel/decel. Tundra stock tunes have aggressive DFCO which give that strong engine braking effect which you'll see frequently whenever you're letting off the throttle. I would guess that's probably what you're seeing. Unfortunately we don't have access to any DFCO parameters at this point. Is this just a thing you noticed or are you experiencing problems as well?

Hey there, currently building a 2wd s/c Tundra. Are you running the stock transmission and differential?
