I am looking into using my iPad as an alternative to the frustrating factory navigation that came with my truck. I have narrowed it down to either a mount that attaches to the factory CD slot or one that uses one of the cup holders as a mounting point. Are there any better alternatives? I would like one that is easy to see while driving because as I mentioned the main purpose will be for use with a navigation app. Pics of your mounts/holder would be great.Thanks.

I would never consider putting anything into the CD slot other than a cd, it is bound to sooner or later damage it.

I don't have any CDs so I'm not worried about damaging the slot if it provides me with a good mounting location.

I don't use my iPad as you are seeking to do ... but would think that the cup holder mount would be
much more secure and less prone to wobble due to touching it or road vibrations.
    Just my thoughts...

That looks good! I'm finding the long arms of a Ram mount on the ICS mount still wobbles on the trail...

I really doubt if that CD Slot mount will hold that tablet. And, the vibration will be unbelievable. Tried it with my 5" Garmin, and hated it.

try to keep the ipad the lightest possible as well. Mine has a heavy cover and when removing it, I noticed less wobble.
the dashboard where it's mounted always move no matter what.

Ram + Hondo here. Best I’ve found so far to hold an iPad mini in a heavy case off-road.

Thanks for the replies so far. I am going to rule out the CD slot mount. On the fence about the ICI and Hondo though. They look rock solid but mucho dinero .

Yeah, I couldn’t find anything cheaper that holds. I use mine in a 1st gen. For a 3rd gen there’s a cool mount that screws into that wasted flat space atop the dash. It’ll be detailed in that thread Pinay posted a link to, above.

Yes, it looks like the most rugged mounting system no doubt about it, but I really don't want to drill holes in my dash.

Looks like RAM mounts are cheaper on Amazon (and free shipping) :monocle:

Peep craigslist, I see a lot in my area from people switching rigs or not needing them anymore.

I pulled the trigger on the Amazon RAM mount. I'm going to skip the ICS and install an aluminum backer plate under the dash like someone else did in a separate thread.

Before you go that route check out rams tracks. Pretty legit system to add and move some things around as well!
