Is anyone using this oil in their Tundra? If so, how do you feel it compares to Mobil 1?

I have used Shell Rotella in my diesel's for years. Just wondering if this is any good for a gas engine.

Perfectly fine and probably comparable to other brand name synthetics like M1

For all I know it could just be rebranded Pennzoil Ultimate

I’m more curious what makes it different for hauling and towing compared to any other full synthetic

Rotella Gas is $21.58 at Walmart (where I live) and Mobil 1 Ext. Perf. is $28.68.

Both are 5 gallon jugs in 0W20.

All the major oil brands are good these days. I read all kinds of arguments/comments about certain oil brands about why this on is better than that one. Unless you are scientist, Kemists or work in an oil lab that analysts this stuff, you will never know the differnece.

I am not in the oil business and don’t claim to know everything about oil, but all the major brands are reputable and been around a long time

Formulated to be more resistant to breaking down under heavy engine loads, but every major brand does this in one way or another

Synthetic Oil is a confusing topic as the definition is very broad.

In this case, any Dexos label on the bottle usually indictate high PAO (slippery waxes).

High PAO (Dexos) in older engines (that never ran syn) will usually make them seep out of their OEM gaskets due to the molecular structure (perfectly aligned).

Other synthetics (non PAO) with seal/gasket ‘conditioners’ work better in older engines.

I use this oil in my commuter car. Its a 2016 Focus with a 1.0 ecoboost engine. It has a variable pressure oil pump so it is very finicky on the oil, this stuff is awesome. With the small turbo using Mobil 1 i would burn 1/2 a quart every 5000 miles. With this stuff I do not burn any off and I'm still averaging 41 to 42 MPG's. It definitely "feels" thicker then Mobil 1

Anything with an API stamp is good oil, even Supertech. Oil is oil.

I ran shell retella diesel oil in my 6.0l gas Chevy truck for 4 years because it was a consumable at the job at had. Never had any issue and it was 0-40. Like @Mr Badwrench says oil is oil.

I've been using it for the last 2 OCI. $21.xx for 5 qt jug - $6.50 store rebate - $10.00 Shell rebate. Comes out to be $1 and change per qt after local taxes. Grabbed some more from the store for 3 more oil changes.

Haven't notice any adverse effects. Change it out every 5-6k. Truck keeps chugging along. I'm happy.

I agree because a retired GM engine designer told me the same. He used Supertech in his vehicles. I can't bring myself to do it. :(

Anyone notice anything unusual about the API stamp on new oil labels?...Appears to no longer have the service rating code. Interesting. I wonder if it's because the applicable service ratings are changing faster than the shelf stock, and knowledgeable buyers won't buy the older stuff?

I just bought two 5 w 40, 2.5 gallon jugs of Full Synthetic Rotella for $94.00 including shipping from Tractor Supply. There is a rebate from Shell for $17.50 per jug til the end of the year. Limit two rebates per household. So my price should be $59.00 after I get rebate back. Plan on using it in my 2012 Goldwing. Peace. DD6CEB779-B66F-4B5C-8467-E2653AB640B9.jpg

Check your local autozone too guys. If you frequent Bobistheoilguy, Rotella Gas Truck is supposedly on clearance. It's a slow seller. Some are reporting $10/jug. Rebate still works. So basically free oil.

Yeah I went to another Autozone this morning and found the 1QT jugs on sale for $2. I bought 9qts 0-20 for $18 and will get a $10 rebate. I would have bought 10qts but it’s all they had left. Can’t really beat that. I may switch the Tundra to this stuff. I did some reading last night and this stuff sounds really great for our trucks. Hard to change old ways though. I’ve been using M1 full synthetic for the last 10 years in my Tacoma and it still runs like a top.

I just grabbed 13 single qts and 4 jugs. Gonna have to use another family members address to complete the rebate but free oil after it comes back. Got enough to service the vehicles for the next yearish.

Even at $2/qt clearance its a great price.
