does any one know why Toyota deleted the A pillar handle on the drivers side...it seems the 2014 model had it but from 2015, it was deleted. Does anyone know if the 2014 handle would fit on the 2015 model?

    Thanks in advance!

2014 does not have it. 2013 may have been the last year. I vaguely remember seeing threads dedicated to this ~ 3-5 years ago, when the change first happened....

Any number of reasons they could have removed it...maybe they just interviewed tall people with lowered trucks that aren't concerned about driver seat wear.

Its a cheap and VERY easy mod. The only thing my wife required as part of the truck purchase...well that and running boards.

Old post, so getting my necro on here, but I have a pic from the IIHS and explanation.

Full disclosure, this is the passenger side in a 2019 with no grab handle on the driver side, BUT we can reasonably concur that similar things happened with the driver side. Now, for Ron's question about why they left the passenger side and removed the driver: Because there is always a driver, but not always a passenger. These types of things are likely averaged out the same way insurance rate are done. Just my 2 cents.

Yup, that's the reason. When the IIHS first started doing the small overlap safety test they started with the drivers side first. Toyota saw the head strike issue and simply removed the handle to achieve a better score. Latter on the IIHS started doing the small overlap testing on the passenger side but I don't have a clue why Toyota didn't remove the handle. Maybe they thought it would be too difficult for a passenger to get in without a handle?
