Bed hop, has anyone found a solution?

Go ahead and take out your shocks just leaving the leafs. Settle her right down. If it doesn’t take all your leafs out of the pack except the top one

 

I have a 2018 DCLB 4x2 and the Coachbuilder bushings alone with stock shackles certainly helped. I have heard the stiffer CB shackles help also but I didn't want any lift as the truck is too damn tall as is to even try to work out of, you'd need a 2 foot stepladder to reach a saddle mounted toolbox or into the bed.

 

You’re right, this truck is great on blacktop / asphalt. I’m comparing this excessive rear end bounce to my old truck, an ‘04 F150 Heritage, this was a continuation of the ‘97-‘03 model, not the next gen ‘04-‘09 model

I use both trucks the same way on the same roads. Seems to me Toyota should address this issue, the Tundra is vastly superior in every other way, how did they not design it to cope with the roads it will encounter? Many western states use this concrete slab stuff and the Tundra is built in Texas, I know they have it there.

 

@ToyTec.............Might be a good time to discount a shackle /poly bushing set. Just sayin....

 

This is what I have. When I installed my BOSS lift though, I saved the bushing replacement project for another day. Still running OEM bushings but I need to swap those out soon.

 

You can go to Auto Zone or equivalent and they will have a special tool made specifically to remove leaf spring bushings that you can "borrow" with ID and deposit. Will still be a bitch. OEM bushings have zero play. Main cause with bounce due to trapezoidal layout of the springs.

Would it be easier to take whole leaf spring of to press them out?

 

Absolutely...I wish I did, but you don't need to. If you removed them then all you need to do is use a press to get the bushings out. Less labor to get them out without taking them off but not a lot of space. Expect fucked up elbows and knuckles...

 

What preparation if any should I do when installing anything that will make it easier to get them out?

 

Remove the spare tire. Jack up the rear and support frame on both sides and remove the rear tires. Use a floor jack placed underneath the pumpkin for support and to raise and lower pumpkin as needed once the lower shackle bolts are removed. Once the lower shackle bolts are off use floor jack to lower pumpkin as low as you can to get enough space to use bushing removal tool. After you have put in the new poly bushings.. use the floor jack to lift the pumpkin to position the spring to line up with the shackle to make it easy to get the bolts in ...Tighten..

Spare tire was removed today because I need to purchase a matching one now but dont know if it will fit with shackles

 

@Sterlinglwood's pic shows it being done with out jacking up and removing tires. Can be done but can be a bitch since our springs are in a trapezoidal position. Makes it hard to align everything just right. Easier to raise/lower pumpkin to position the spring to line up with the shackle.

 

My ToyTec's do not interfere due to design. Plenty of room...

 

Did you do both shackles at the same time? Or one side then the other.

 

I have a 20 ton press in the shop, a set of pulley pullers, or I could rent a ball joint puller lol. I just need to make the time to do it.

Same time. You have to otherwise you bind up things. It's a lot easier jacking the rear up and using a floor jack to maneuver the pumpkin. There are plenty of you tube vids on the methodology.

So are there any options to upgrade the bushing without adding a lift shackle? I too want to keep it stock height in the rear. I like the idea of the CB or Toytec shackles but I load dirtbikes and don't ever plan on wheeling the truck so no need to go up with the rear.

 

it's the road ant the seems normal for this. you can spend lots of money if you like when you change or beef up your suspension ride quality changes. good luck in your choice

This is how I did it.

 

Just a observation, at 7:02 he pulled down on the leaf and moved the exhaust. I guess the +3 make the leafs come close to the tail pipe. Also just a thought, what about driveline angle? By just extending the rear portion of the leafs will that create more wear on the U-joint? Maybe not since the pumpkin would be inline more wth the driveshaft.

If I do get a set I would give the +1 since I wouldn't want any more lift for my truck. Since these would take the hop out of the bed and these shackles are stronger has they're been more wear put on another part on the drivetrain? Like bushings?
