    That's good idea, I will have to order a few filters tonight. Hopefully all this gasket material flowing around the engine doesn't hurt anything.

    They are small, and should go to the bottom of the pan. It was smart to just check the filter so closely. A plus side to cartridge filters

    I am still between the 2500HD and the Tundra due to this issue. The newer HD's have an improved 6 speed automatic that has helped mileage but it is still a thirsty truck.

    Man I hate that this issue is still going on. Everything else about the Tundra is awesome. It is like getting a HD drivetrain in a 1/2 ton truck. Best of both worlds for my usage.

    I don’t know about what the other guy had or what kind of maintenance, mileage, etc was on his 6.0L truck, but that is low. Keep in mind we are comparing trucks with totally different weights and ratings.

    This is what I do know. Check fuelly and some of the other sites.

    One thing to remember, most, not all, but most people buy 3/4 ton trucks to haul and tow with often. So when you look at mileage logs, keep that in mind.

    Here is a snapshot of my 3500 fully. My average for the life of the truck is 14.2 mpg on a diesel? Again, most of those miles had 8500 lbs or more behind it running 75 mph in CC. I wouldn’t pay attention to the 26.7 mpg, it’s the exception to the rule. When I am actually empty and running only partial 4wd, I get 20-22 mpg. That is rare that I do run empty though. Most of the time, 14-17 is the normal. Hell, I have been down to 9.7 mpg in nasty wind.

    If you want a Tundra, don’t let this issue hold you back. If it happens, Toyota will fix it. I had no problem letting my local dealer tear into mine. Not exactly a big deal for a qualified tech to do.

    But, my dad has a 2016 GMC 2500HD 6.0 gas. I love that truck too and almost got one myself. I don’t need anything more than a half ton though.

    Mine was 2005 with 60,000ish miles when I sold it. Used full synthetic and very well maintained. It was a crew cab with 8’ bed. I drove like a granny too!

    My aunt has a 2013 reg cab 2500 hd 6.0 gasser and she's right in there with that mileage that was posted. Well maintained truck to, the 6.0 just sucks the fuel down, but is rock solid. That truck has been great to her other then the squeaky rear brakes Gm cannot seem to get right.

    My brother has a Chevy 2500 with the 8.1L big block. He looked for a long time to find one that was ordered with the 3.73 gear ratio. Most were 4.10 gears and just drank fuel. His first long trip across Montana empty he got in the 15’s. He about shit himself being so happy. Most of the guys I know that had the 8.1L trucks with 4.10 gears were lucky to get 12 empty.

    So from what I have been told, the 6.0 needs the 4.10 gears to be happy at the pump.

    He has the Alison 1000 trans. I was pretty impressed with his results.
    He was so impressed, he scrapped the motor out of his snow rig (87 blazer) and dropped in a 8.1L that was tuned and all torque management removed. It’s a beast. He can spin all four 43” tires on dry pavement through third gear.

    Yeah hers squeak all the time on her 2500, been in for a few TSB's on it. Goes away for awhile but then returns.

    Hers has the 4.10's, great truck, tows really well.

    2016 SR5 28000 miles. I guess I'm now to the group with the leak issues. Both sides appear to be leaking and passanger side is worse.
    Do any of the Chicago Tundra owners have a recommendation for good dealer to take my truck to for the repair?

    I'm not sure if any good mechanic around me northwest Chicago suburbs Arlington Heights or toyota Schaumburg.

    I hear ya on that, mine had 21k when they had to open it up. Its a bummer for sure and something you do not expect to happen on a Toyota engine. Yours looks like its leaking pretty good, make sure to get it taken care of.

    Yap very disappointed, passenger side is worse. I just scheduled appointment online with local toyota dealer service. I hope they would have mechanic with good knowledge what he is doing and I'm afraid how he will do the job. Ufff

    After I contact Toyota headquarter office they opened the case this morning. I was told to go to Toyota service and talk to the manager. Soon as I arrived there they quickly added case number to the system and they provided me with loaner car. I was bit surprised they didn't even look at it before they gave me loaner car. As I mentioned in my email that both of the sides leaking they add that to the system. Also they expected to be done by end of the week.

    After I spoke with front guy he said he is not aware that any of the Tundras have been done at their service based of the issue we all dealing I'm little nervous about that and I hope they will have someone who is good enough to do this type of work. I hope they have tech support in case they are not familiar or done something like this.

    What was your experience with your Toyota service if you have something similar that they never done it or it's just BS?

    Very nervous that going under the knife just little over 28000 miles

    make sure they don't just do the valve covers. They need to do the cam towers. I would think the Master Tech will tackle the issue.

    I hope they will do it tundra is left at service. Also at description of the ticket is mentioned cam shaft tower seal leak so I assume they will know what to look for
