After reading the ever-growing cam tower seal leak thread, I'm becoming more and more paranoid about it. It also sounds like dealers are pretty hit or miss on whether they'll go to bat for you. I bought a Toyota so I don't have to worry about stuff like this, but having the engine pulled and the whole top end taken apart for an issue that has been going on for 11 years but can apparently be permanently fixed is a pretty big deal. Even the infamous "Chevy shake" doesn't involve tearing into the engine. Toyota has apparently determined it's more cost-effective to deal with these as they come rather than fix the problem at the factory.

With the first gen Titans, cracked exhaust manifolds were practically a guarantee, and it was just a matter of WHEN, not IF. Are these cam towers the same, as in do we have to worry about WHEN rather than IF?

I'm just curious to hear from people who don't have the issue, like how many miles you have and how old your trucks are. Just trying to gauge how big of an issue this really is.

Update: A petition had been started in hopes that Toyota might actually do something about this issue: http://chn.ge/2p5fmWD

Mine doesn't leak yet but I only have 10,500 miles. I'm really hoping I won't have a problem.

None here at 24k. Have to remember the internet leans towards issues so in most cases it looks exaggerated.

None at <1K on my 2018, none at 10K on my previous 2016, none at 19K on my previous 2013, and none at 49K on my 2008. The percentage of trucks with this issue is still very small, it just seems like when it happens the person goes straight to the message boards, and understandably so.

My new 2014 did at around 10,000 miles if I remember correctly. That was a lot of 70+ mph highway traveling on 35s.
My first used 2015 didn't stick around here long enough to see if it did or didn't.
This used 2015 I have now hasn't shown anything at 30,000 miles.

maybe this is more common on 3rd gens, but my old 2nd gen went over 100k over 10 years. It did have a valve cover gasket leak, which could have been confused for a cam tower leak but a much easier fix.

Mine was weeping at 89k when it was sold. Not sure a drop of oil would have ever hit the ground. I wasn’t worried about it.

I had a 2010 tundra and when I got rid of it at 70,000 no leaks anywhere. My 2017 with less than 5,000 miles has started leaking out of the passenger side cam tower.

Already had it in for the cam tower leak and the seal between the filter and cooler line was leaking oil as well. They fixed the one and are going to “monitor” the cam tower leak. Glad I have the extended warranty
