2010 CM have 5100s need smoother ride

First post, I have a 2010 CM 4x4 I have had since new, put 5100s on it right after I bought it, fronts on the middle setting, for the last 8 years I have used the truck pretty sparingly I only have 41k miles on it. I am starting to use the truck more now and I am finding the ride really jarring especially the front when I hit bumps in the road, I would like to change out the suspension for a smoother ride. I have a Jeep also and put Rancho 9000s on it which I have found to be softer when set on the lowest setting. Any suggestions for a smoother ride? Thanks.

 

Welcome from Ca. I didn't find the 5100s to be too bad personally. But, Bilsteins are digressively valved. You might prefer a progressively valved shock.? Tire weight, type and tire pressure are huge factors when it comes to comfort also.

 

Welcome from Arizona. Lots of info on suspension and lifts are available on this site - lots of recommendations for the Bilstein 6112 front shocks along with comments about the ride quality. Thanks for welcomes, I am running a set of stock take off RW wheels and tires, I am running 38psi front and rear.

 

I have an SUV that I don't drive much. The tires on that vehicle are now 8 years old and I've noticed that the rubber seems to be stiffer and that the tires have significantly less traction on pavement than they did when they were new. Could the stiffer ride be due to the old tires rather than the suspension? I've read that some shops won't repair tires that are over seven years old. Something to think about.

 

Generally, shops won't repair a tire that's more than 5 yrs old.
I would imagine the stiffer ride could be part tire but the suspension could've "settled" a bit too.

 

Thanks for the feedback, I don't think it is the tires, I had Michelins on it until '13 and the ride was the same, the RW wheels and tires are from a '13 RW.
