First, I want to admit I skipped from the end of page 9 to here to post.

    Second, I'm also very confused.

How can folks who own every year 1st Gen be ordering the recall kit if there are two different bolt sizes, depending on the year?

I have an '07 Sequoia, btw.

    Thanks,

I think this is part of the reason most dealers won't sell you the kit. And even McGeorge (now "Ourisman") Toyota, who actually will sell you that kit tells you in very clear text "we can't verify this kit for any vehicle, and we won't accept returns". If you know 100% it's the right kit, good on ya! You just saved about 10-20%! But if you're in a crossover year, like 2004 Tundra for example, I sure as fuck wouldn't buy the kit, you may be stuck eating the money you just saved.

Your best bet, always, is to look in the EPC to find your part number based on your exact VIN, and order individual joints, with 8 new bolts. The part numbers will be in the EPC for all the above, left joint, right joint, and bolts.

There are some cases where the EPC is not easy to read. In those cases, I'd urge people to post pics of what they found in EPC (a pic of the diagram) so someone who knows better can help you decipher. There are sometimes year cutoffs on parts, one part if up to the cutoff date, the other part number is for after that cutoff date. I've found dealer counter-jockeys who don't even understand it and I had to explain it to them. I've even found some I can't explain, and neither could they!

Sometimes when you're in an old swamp, you gotta expect things to be clear as mud.

Anyone know if these part numbers changed or are no longer available?

I have a 2000 with 92,000 miles on it on original ball joints

When I type in these part numbers on toyota website I get "No suggestions found for '43340-39356' "

I'd like to replace both sides, just due to age

    Any help is appreciated

I plugged in part number you listed, and got this.
    May be your internet.
Websites been acting weird all weekend.
I been looking for parts today, and had to reload a few times. Thought my cart was even erased once. Had to sign out and log back in to get cart to register/repopulate.

I quoted my cart from this year when I did ball joints on my 2000 Tundra. Everything fit perfectly, hope this helps.

I don't know what is going on, maybe the dealer I'm trying to buy from is Out of stock on it -- I can find it thru a duck duck go search but not on the dealer black mamba linked in Alabama

    Strange

Orisman in richmond has it as it pops right up...

Serra toyota gives me the no item found thing

    Edit -

I'll be calling serra in the morning -- Their discounts are too good to pass up

I have no idea why I can't find the lower ball joints in their system.

Parts show up at orisman but they want to charge shipping and sales tax...

Agree but if you select "Product Suggestions" it takes you to the 43340-39356 page @Redoak is showing and you can place your order.

Works this morning, last night the product suggestions took me to a different ball joint. The 39356 was nowhere to be found. Same with the 39466.

I do not have my vin loaded into Serra this morning. “What this fits” is 2001 to 2003 on the website right now.

    Edit

called and spoke to a very pleasant parts rep -- Ordered, along with a high mount stop light assembly

Pretty good deal ($245) and shipped free to my house. About $100 cheaper than the quote I got in person at a different dealership in the Boston area. Checked all of them and Woburn had the biggest discounts. Got a power steering rack from them too. Although, it was defective out of the box... that's another story, but less a reflection on them and more Toyota. They swapped it out for me and paid me for extra labor my mechanic did. Had to fight for it hard tho lol

    https://autoparts.woburntoyota.com/

I went with the "black" bolts. They were the ones the dealership recommended as well. 2003 AC 4x4 3.4L.

Part # for 2003 AC 4x4 3.4L. Haven't installed them yet, but VIN fitment was good.

Installing MevoTech front end kit. Will just have to try em out on how long they will last. Sigh ! Its difficult getting parts all the way out here in the Pacific Islands. Some part suppliers don't ship to P.O. box addresses.

Brother, Toyota ships to all 50 states.

You picked one of the absolute cheapest, worst brands you could've possibly picked for LBJ, although nothing aftermarket will last, Mevotech is the worst possible brand. Someone just posted their Mevotech Supremes where the ball completely popped out of the casting.

Here is 20 pages worth of people who decided, "oh well, fuck it, I'm not gonna listen to you guys about OEM lower ball joints", with pictures of what you can expect: https://www.tundras.com/threads/first-gen-lower-ball-joint-lbj-failures.141860/

Don't do it, man. There's literally no excuse that justifies the risk of this, which was caused by a LBJ fail on the interstate - and this person *IS* a forum member, it's not a random shot:

    PS-

You REALLY need to replace that radiator.

The plastics are browning. That's a sign of imminent failure. This is the last guy from Hawaii who failed to replace the radiator when it changed colors. He probably permanently damaged his transmission, but at least was able to get back up and running again. Maybe he caught the coolant/transmission fluid leak quick enough.

If you're not aware of the radiator problem, maybe you also need to hear this. Your engine needs its timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and pulleys done every 10yrs or 100k (it's an interference engine), and best practice is to do the radiator at the same time.

Rusty frames, non-OEM lower ball joints, old radiators, and timing belt are the top killers of these trucks, and will have your truck (or you) in the boneyard sooner than anyone wants to see.

    Gents,

I just replaced the LBJs on my '07 Sequoia. I used my VIN to search for OEM parts and found the part numbers I was expecting from perusing this forum. I also ordered new bolts. The LBJs came with castle nuts and cotter pins. Although I could have done it, I had a local shop do the work. I've put a real premium on my free time since my wife passed.

I swear the steering is tighter and the steering wheel returns to center faster. Well worth it.

But that's not why I'm posting. When I picked up the truck, I was told they didn't feel comfortable using the included castle nuts. The base of the new nuts was much smaller than the ones they would replace, as if there should have been a washer included.

    Just FYI.

After replacing mine this week, I looked up the service history on the Toyota website. I knew they had been replaced under the recall, and I knew they were due to be replaced, but they felt fine and honestly can’t feel any difference with the new ones. I also can’t find any service history of them being replaced since the recall work was done.

Toyota OEM recall LBJs…148K miles with zero issues. :anonymous:

Can someone please direct me to the right OEM LBJ part and the correct replacement bolts for an 2005 DC RWD. Also any other supporting parts I may need so I can give everything I need to my mechanic as a complete package for replacement, thanks!

Thank you. Glad I asked because I was getting different part numbers (pic attached) when looking up in the epc site, probably operator error though.

Those are the numbers it gave you with your VIN?

Do you mind private messaging me your VIN so I can run it thru the parts system to confirm your numbers?

Ran your VIN thru EPC. It pulled 43340-39595 for the driver side, 43330-39825 for the passenger side, and 90080-12316 for the bolt.

Worth noting that the RH (passenger side), while EPC shows an older base part number and alternate part number, Toyota has updated the part. This is visible in the Toyota Parts website. EDIT: Example here -- it's important to always flip down that little info section, it'll tell you prior part numbers. You can see Toyota changed the p/n a few times, and all of these part numbers have a match in EPC.

I recently bought LBJs from Sera during the 25% off sale. What Shifty says is correct. A couple adds about Sera:
    1. They sometimes put a hold and it may take 10 days to get your parts
    2. Shipping is free over $75.00
    3. Small orders they charge like $20 for shipping whether you buy one clip or multiple items so don’t make small orders if you can avoid it.

Oh, and avoid the Decatur AL dealer for Serra. Only use the Birmingham AL dealer site.
