Hoping for a little basic advice on installing a new head unit in my 2005 DBL cab SR5 from folks that have done this install. I read the thread about determining if you have an amp and I’m pretty sure I don’t because there isn’t one behind the back panel, rear storage or under the seat.

So I’d like to confirm the Metra 70-1761 is the proper harness for this?…since I don’t need an amp bypass. Any write ups or diagrams on which wire goes to which would be appreciated…I’m a total newb when it comes to audio stuff but I’ve done my fair share of wiring over the years.

Good morning. Have you ever read through THIS THREAD?

There's a section, "Audio, audio upgrades and cameras...", that can be found about 8 paragraphs down in the first post. Start there.

Yeah I did read through there, but hadn’t followed one of the hyperlinks. Looks like the Metra harness I plan to use is the right one. Little more digging and I’m sure I’ll find what each wire is for.
    Cheers.

With those connectors it appears to be the basic DC SR5 6 speaker Audio but the drawing does not jive with actual conductors present.

Edit.....seem to always forget about illumination conductors that don't show on Radio schematic....all conductors present and accounted for.

thanks again Bubba. Although I think I might be making this far more complicated than it needs to be. Now that I have my hands on the Metra adapters and the harness for the stereo, I see the wires are all same colors.

So is it safe to assume I can just solder/heat shrink color to color and plug this unit in?

I’ve done quite a bit of wiring, but never swapped a stereo before.

Don't know if it's safe to assume anything unless the output pins of new HU match pin for pin with OEM harness and each one of those pins functions....make sense ?

What type of new HU are you putting in ?

It’s made by PLZ. I just watched a YouTube video they have QR coded in the instructions and the guy just matches the colors from PLZ harness to Metra harness.

Well, I reckon if it works you're good to go.....time will tell.

Without seeing certain things, hard for me to know how you're able to go from 2 OEM connectors to the radio connector. Both of the OEM connectors have conductors you need. If you're convinced it'll work, go for it,

Bit of a gamble but all seems to be working fine. Still need to sort out the mounting brackets.

Fits in there pretty good. So far seems like a good setup, Apple CarPlay, back up camera AND a volume knob! Not 3 options that are easy to find these days, especially for under $200US. Will know its quality if it survives a few Canadian winters.

Used Metra 70-1671 harness adapter and Metra 95-8202 trim kit.

the trim needed a little work from the belt sander to fit nice.

I was wondering the same thing, I guess it was a 10 year anniversary vinyl release. Hopefully see a new album this year.

Doubt we see another “Sturgill” album. Maybe the art work changed to signify that “Sturgill” is dead. Johnny Blue Skies passage du desir was the last Sturgill album released.

He’s not dead. He released an album in 2024 and played on the Righteous Gemstones.

Sturgill Simpson the performing artist is “dead”. He went under a different stage name for his last album. He said he would make 5 albums and quit. Dood and Juanita was number 5.
