Yes, more electrical load, more resistance to spinning.

hmm, i’m thinking of a dc generator… maybe not if its just jiggling the pixies?

but circle track racers mount the alternator to the rear axle for a reason.

Anyone running retrofit projectors? Curious if the 04’ DC can fit a 3” projector, I’ve seen a 2.5” fit. Went with the CO Light mini projector on my last truck and they were alright. Just thinking about going a different route!

On recirculation, no doubt. Mine stays on fresh air until the dead heat of summer. Of course I'm not smoking in my truck either and I doubt you are.

For sure, I quit smoking back in 2014 so I'm not contributing to it. I keep mine on recirculate now because of all of this pollen we get this time of year. A carpet of yellow everywhere you go.

I have the colight. I’ve replaced them once. I’m honestly tired of them so I just ordered clear housing and all clear corner lights, harness, bulbs, and I’m going to give the ultimate halogen upgrade another shake. I tried with my black housings and I think the reflectors don’t work as well as the clear. The colights are cool but they suck whenever the sun is still setting. I am however going to try adding a harness to the colight and see if it improves output.

Curious if the harness upgrade would also extend the life of the lil bastards. I've gotten about 2 years out of em. unacceptable
    Link for the clear corners?

Yes, several people. So many that we had to link at least one good option in the 'megathread' sticky, under the "Lighting..." section, here's that link: https://www.tundras.com/posts/3143834/

I believe @Cummins3500 and @artsr2002 are running some, and possible @JakeJake. Unless my memory is shit on the subject, @TX-TRD1stGEN is who I swore did a nice writeup on his install but I looked in here and only found these two sample links:

I’ve got the CoLights and the harness upgrade. So far so good. Main complaint is aiming (limitations of the early housings) and poor high beam performance. Otherwise, love the low beam performance. Still on my first set.

Bang for the buck is the Co-light advantage. I paid $38 for my pair.

Ok so was planning on an LED upgrade but if they only last a couple years and if colight stops production then the housings would be trashed ... or could be reused for another projector upgrade?

That's the real win, every other standard projector kit is north of $300+ and there's too much effort involved, too many ways to make mistakes.

There's a few writeups, for sure. I want to say there's another TX member who made a good writeup.

I've been tempted to hit up a similar-year Land Cruiser/LX470 and snag the projectors out of it, and the ballasts, mostly to bake the assembly apart, and see how hard it'd be to retrofit. Basically create the "OEM+" option Toyota never gave us.

That said, I also realize whatever I do may only work for the newer body style 1st gens, because the way the housings aim on the earlier years will probably be problematic.

HaHaHa. That ship has sailed sir. I’ve had these for over a year, they aren’t even available anymore. Newer versions are not fanless like these are. No one seems to make them anymore.

I've got them retrofits dawg. Depo CAPA housings, Morrimoto Mini D2s Bi-Xenon projectors, Morimoto 50w ballasts, 5800k 55w bulbs, etc etc.

I'm about as blind as a welders dog, and I really don't see well at night. If I'm out after dark the tundra is mandatory.

The Morimoto mini d2s projectors are 78mm or roughly 3". I think a guy could go even bigger if he wanted to, depending on the projector shroud you wanted to run. Maybe a little different packaging in the DC housing though.

@hvac and Sparkies, I need some help

Why does my AC unit have 3 caps? One is a motor run cap, that's easy enough (far right)
    20250405_131641.jpg

Also, how do you test caps? Continuity? Any reading is a good reading?

This 55 microfarad reads 53 ohms. Is this correct? This is new for me.

You should have a capacitance reading on your Fluke. Just need to isolate the circuit by first unpowering it, discharging the caps with a screwdriver by shorting them and then measuring capacitance with at least one leg of the cap disconnected from the circuit.

You need a meter than can read microfarads(uf) looks like they are using two in series to bump the MFs for the compressor, try to get a number off the compressor and look up what it should use.

edit; looks like whoever put that on shouldn’t be touching electrical, they’re just using the upper left cap as a jumper down to the lower left.
