Definitive 2000-2006 cab-area rain water leak thread

It’s leaking along the entire area where the stiff rubber material of the window frame meets the metal of the opening.

I actually don’t mind replacing it because the window has a few deep scratches. And I was hoping it’s possible to just replace with one without a track (1 piece glass).

 

Yeah 1pc is easy peasy. But you could also find a nice donor from a junkyard too, I’m sure. I think $115 was the last dollar amount I saw for one on here, power, with the motor and window assembly.

 

How hard is it to convert the manual slider to the powered slider? I have the interior taken apart so wondering if it’s worth it since the window needs to be popped out anyway.

Also, do you know where I can find a gasket for the 3rd brake light? Not the lense gasket but the foam one that sits between the cab and the brake light housing itself.

LINK but it appears not available from Amazon any more. From the factory it may just be RTV or similar. Mine was just some nasty goop. I honestly don't think mine was actually causing my leak.

 

Yeah, I saw that one right before you posted. I’m wondering if I could just use some 3m automotive foam tape as the gasket, although I don’t feel comfortable using the old housing if I do that because that thing will certainly break if I try to remove again.

Do you know if the new OEM housings come with the gasket attached or are they included?

 

I'm not sure. I reused mine. @shifty` ordered a new one I think. @Tundra2 did at one point as well.

I ordered a new 3rd stop light from Toyota and replaced it on the silver truck. It came with a new gasket. It's in the build thread

No work done on crackie

 

I just left my housing in place and sealed it with FIPG. Only on the top 3/4, so water could drain out if needed. Whatever sealing material that it came with looked super dried up and crusty.




I'd recommend doing a smoother tape job. I can't notice it standing next to the truck, but I know it's there and it bugs me.

Well it looks like I'm about to go down this rabbit hole. When it snowed a little while back I saw a couple water drops on the cover to the driver side in cab fuse box. Last night when I went out to the truck I had water in the driver side floor after we got a lot of rain recently and there was more water on the fuse box cover.


Windshield is original so it looks like I need to focus on the area where the A-pillar outside trim is. I've watched the very helpful video that @shifty` had linked and it seems straightforward. Only thing I worry about is having to drill out the phillips screws if they won't come out. I'll also have to get a hold of new clips or maybe I can just cover them with the tape that Hand Model used. Need to find a PN for those. Any tips or tricks of anyone that has done this is appreciated.

 

Do you have an impact driver?

I do, only thing I'm worried about is it being so close to the windshield using it, but it might be the only option

 

I mean, hit it with penetrant now. But given you're not in a super-salty area, let's hope it's not the case.

The screw heads don't look terrible so hoping for the best. Feeling a bit under the weather this weekend so gonna have to wait a little while. If I don't get to it in the next week or two I'll have to park it in the garage.

 

Taking a look at this today. Nothing super obvious after pulling inside A-Pillar trim. My "rain gutter" on the driver door looks pretty beat up but it always has so I'm not sure it has anything to do with it.

I've pulled the lower dash out of the truck to try and pin-point where the water is coming in at. I have seen nothing obvious so far. Supposed to have some rain the next few days so I'm hoping to get out and look under the dash after the rain to try and see if I can see a water path to know my best course of action. I'm trying to keep from pulling the outer A-pillar trim if it isn't necessary so I'd really like to visually confirm the leak point first if possible.

 

That may actually be the source of your leak. That's about what PHM's (RIP in peace) looked like and he had a leak inward. If you want to know for sure, you could try taking clear packing tape and taping that joker shut. But if you ever try to take the tape off, it's ripping that seal to bits.

 

This may be where my rear leak is coming from. Its very little but it is on both sides. LINK
This was the only post in the rebuild thread I could find relating to that seal. I'm not opposed to replacing that seal (I probably need both sides) but I figure it's probably pretty expensive if you can still buy it new. Need to take a look..
