I shipped a lot of FRAC harness kits this week. Some of you should have already received them and everyone should have them by Tuesday at the latest.

Please post your install pics and comments here so others can learn from your experience and we can all see how cool your installation is.

Or you could just post a link here to your own install thread so there is a central reference post to go to for all the various installs.

I'm looking forward to seeing the FRAC revolution unfold!

    Tex

What does the v2 look like? Haven’t see a pic of it out of the wrapper.

Not a whole lot of difference from v1, but easier to manufacture based on some subtle changes...Harness_Pic.jpg

hey @TundraTex - full disclosure, i've not installed yet, it's sitting with my pro grill and dust bunnies in my office, but...

how difficult would it be for me to wire it so that I could replace both the switches out for a single momentary button that when pressed, shows the front camera any time - if not pressed, its business as usual for the rear? Perhaps i've not had enough sleep but my way was very inefficient and involved relays...

The FRAC harness has two switches. The VIM switch is a simple on/off switch where "on" is the normal state and "off" enables Nav functions while in motion.

The camera selection switch is an on-off-on rocker switch. In the center "off" position, everything works per stock configuration. When switched to the - position, the front camera video is enabled, and in the = position the aft camera video is enabled. The rocker switch is controlling a 12 volt switching relay to choose which camera is displayed.

I haven't considered any way to use a single "momentary on" switch to replace either of these switch functions. That's really not how the FRAC harness circuit was designed. Not to say it couldn't be done, but it just wasn't designed that way.

    Super helpful, thank you.

So if i was willing to lose the rear cam anytime, i can just replace the rocker with a momentary for +12v & Front cam positive to get what i needed? sorry, i had assumed that the on off rocker was for anytime video rather than the VIM element.

    You're awesome as ever!

Yes. If you don't want/need the anytime rear cam capability, you can stow the white wire in the red/white/blue switch harness.

You would then connect the 12v red wire to the pole/line terminal of your push button switch and the blue wire to the load terminal.

If you go this way, I would recommend a latching on/off push button switch rather than a momentary. Depends on what you are using the front view for, but it seems more handy to me to have both hands available when pulling into a parking spot than trying to steer with one hand and hold the camera button down with the other.

The reverse shift position will override the forward selection and bring up the rear camera any time you shift into reverse regardless of the front cam switch position. So if you're concerned about not having the reverse cam, it's not an issue.

    Hope this helps.

Well mine is done and working fine. Very cool! As I'm not a skilled solderer I went a different route on switch installs.

    8915dac576304f35ee9738a0b7e35a21_32adbec9823bef6120e611a81005cea9707ae757.jpg76fdec7f06e0d651299c3044b43b4724_514c85ab0d82569f13d0882869b7c132edfcfdd5.jpg

I pulled the security mic and stuffed it behind the panel (still hooked up) and put the camera selector switch in its place. For the VIM switch I found a spot in the glove box. it will almost never be used and in the cases when it is my wife or passenger would be doing the typing so no need for me to access it.

used the same camera as bluebottle and am very happy with it. haven't cut jumper wires yet. image is right side up so glad I didn't! might leave the distance bars.

oh and lost both of those stupid yellow clips on the head unit. retrieved one only to lose it again and finally said screw it. I'll get more if I have rattles but honestly I don't relish the idea of having to stuff that harness back in there again.

step drill bit (harbor freight) is absolutely key to a quality install on the round switches. I may yet move the camera selector to just under the center arm rest but for now I'm tired of pulling the interior apart.

on my limited both panels under the radio came out as one unit. clips hold the two together.

wouldn't mind giving up one of the 12v cig lighter plugs to install the camera selector and not have to tuck the security mic (assume its a glass break sensor?) away.

CORRECTION, had to cut the green wire to reverse the display. I had thought it was an upside down thing but it's just a reversed image for a rear view.

camera is not impressively wide. front corners are simply not covered. will keep an eye out for a better unit as more people install these. this could be a function of mounting height. mine is just under the Y and O on my pro grill like bluebottles.

I have a rattle over small bumps coming from the glove box or HU area. I don't remember having it before the frac install. I have all clips for the HU in place.

I already took out the plastic shelf from the glove box and that didn't get rid of the rattle. Also removed and installed the HU a few times.

Anyone else? Kinda hard to diagnose since I have to be driving to hear it.
