    Hi,

I am getting some clunking noise when I shift from reverse and then to neutral then to drive. My carrier bearing is in good shape and I have been greasing my drive shafts. The ujoints are in good condition as well. When I shake and move my drive shaft around I can hear my slip yolk, and a couple of inches down the boot, clunking when I push up on that area. Which leads me to assume my slipyolk is dry? Do I have to buy a new boot and crimp rings to grease my yolk? I also get this clunk noise when my truck down shifts and when I press on the accelerator after I down shifts.

to grease slip yolk, has to be done by hand to you are taking things apart and may need new boot if your is dry, cracked or damaged. There was a TSB for some trucks about clunking, dont recall the years impacted. Toyota fix was to replace the driveshaft.

Thanks! I just ordered a new boot and ring so I can grease my slip yolk. My boot is in good condition but not sure where I can get a crimp ring. Hopefully, that fixes my clunking noise. I also made my own carrier-bearing drop which made my acceleration and shifting way smoother!

Slip yolk greasing was super easy and it fixed my clunking noise!! The only difficult part was getting the drive shaft off from the rear diff. WD-40 saved the day!
