Hi there, I had this situation happen to me the other day. Driving with cruise control on, all of a sudden the check engine light and parking brake malfunction warning light comes on, engine starts shuttering as it goes into limp mode. Vehicle ran really rough and then stalled out. I got it to my house and then had it towed to the dealer. It turns out my vehicle is part of the plagued engine failures. Extremely frustrated, they finally agreed to give me a loaner after much discussion back and forth. They said that they inspected my oil and found metal shavings. Anything that oil touches will be replaced with brand new parts.

I had this issue happen to me. I was driving through a bumpy intersection. Then all of a sudden my '24 tundra lost power and went into limp mode. The check engine light came on. I drove it a 1/4 mile to get home. Once home, I restarted the truck. All of the dash lights when off and it ran perfectly fine.

The next day I took it to the dealership where they ran the diagnostics. They saw two engine misfire codes. They were fine sharing the info with me. The service advisor said he's seen a couple other Tundra's do this same thing. Toyota does not know what the cause is.

This happened to me with about 3400 miles on the truck. It has 5400 miles now and I have not been able to replicate the issue.

You may have seen my post on another section, but mine just quit at 412 miles on it. The dealer said it was contamination in the fuel and pushed the cause back on me. I never even put fuel in it but it failed with the dealer provided tank of fuel. They found that all of the injectors needed to be replaced along with the fuel pump at the tank. That all cost me another $13,066. Funny thing though is that when my insurance company got involved and sampled the fuel in the tank, no contamination. But since the original diagnostic went to Toyota corporate as contamination, they stood by the dealer. I have a lawyer. But, the failure is most likely manufacturing quality issues at assembly. I would insist that you archive the failure codes for future litigation. Toyota has too big of a mess on their hands and it will get ugly.

New member. 2023 Sequoia Hybrid with less than 10,000 miles through numerous malfunction faults last night including Drive start control, parking support brake, hybrid system malfunction, check engine, and advanced ultrasonic sensors. Started errors and then shut off. Restarted and went to limp mode to get off road and into a parking lot. Towed to dealer last night, TBD.

no weird noises reported by the driver (wife) outside of the sensor noise usually associated with a nearby obstacle. I discussed with the service manager and a couple of techs today who reported they had never seen it. Engine ran and sounded fine while I waited for the tow truck. I suspect it is one of the many circuit boards in the car that have these device/sensor I/O's.

7/1/24 update: Dealer diagnosed and replaced neutral switch/module and the issue seems to be corrected. Time will tell.

This all happened in January this year. Still waiting for the litigation to start. The lawyer has all the documentation. The wife wants me to get our money back and buy a GMC instead.

Wondering how many 3rd gen tundras have ran out of fuel due to the faulty gauge issue? My gauge has reset itself to full twice in 1 week and I used reset.procedure. what engine codes would that produce what type of engine/driving behavior would one experience and would vehicle go.to limp mode.

I had a similar experience recently this month in my 2023 limited off-road crewmax (non-hybrid) tundra (32,000 miles) driving back to Ohio from South Carolina. My wife was in the back seat with our 8 month old son and the bed was loaded with a couple suitcases. We were not towing anything. We were just south of Athens, Ohio on the tail end of our journey. I attempted to pass a semi truck when the engine unexpectedly went into a reduced power mode. The check engine light came on, there was a reduced power mode/see dealer message, and a message regarding a brake error (I believe it was the parking support brake malfunction error). I remember trying to accelerate and noticed vibrations from the engine and the exhaust sounded like an engine that was misfiring. I remember looking at the warnings and thinking "I am now in the engine failure club." As the truck was coasting, I put the hazards on and pulled over to the right shoulder. It was after midnight, snowing, and we were not in a populated area. I was pretty upset to say the least. My wife and I sat in the truck for a few minutes and discussed our options since we were not even close to Columbus, Ohio (home). Since the truck still had power, I crawled to the next exit with the hazards on while the engine was in limp mode. I do not think I could go above 40mph or make the tachometer go above 1500. I figured if I spun a bearing, there would have been no motive power, so I was not sure what the issue was... When I got off the exit, I parked the truck and decided to see what would happen if I shut off the power and disconnected the battery. After doing that, I was surprised that the truck started without hesitation and the check engine light and error messages were no longer displayed. There were no vibrations, abnormal sounds, etc. I was hesitant to drive any further, but we were not in a familiar area, it was the dead of night, and wanted to get our son home before the snow accumulated. I drove very conservatively, anticipating another failure could occur.

I went to a local Toyota dealership the next day and explained what happened to the assistant service manager. I asked if they could see what code(s) displayed to cause the reduced power mode. I was really disappointed when he returned and told me that they could not find any error codes because I performed a "hard reset" by disconnecting the battery. I was surprised that no code could be retrieved or any history could be pulled. I find it interesting that there is no way to look up this information due to disconnecting the battery...especially with how technology has evolved. Since my truck engine was running normally, they said there was nothing they could do. The only advice they could offer was to have the truck towed directly to the dealership when/if the engine goes into reduced power mode and to not perform a hard reset with disconnecting the battery.

I am really disappointed with this Tundra. I qualify for the engine recall, but the truck's manufacture date pushes eligibility for a replacement to May 2025. I had no motor issues prior to this. The only powertrain issue experienced was throttle lag and hesitation, but it was corrected with a software update. I have been dealing with the faulty fuel gauge readings since November 2022, but I just look at my odometer mileage to determine when it is time for a fill up. (That is another complaint and disappointment on its own)

I am lucky that the truck engine did not go into the low power mode when we were carving through the mountains, especially in a construction zone with no shoulder to pull over. The only silver lining was that we made it home and our son was safe.

I wonder how many other 3rd gen Tundra owners have experienced something like this before.
