Howdy fellas! New owner of an '05 Stepside. Was cleaning it up today, tightening bolts, installing a dashcam, etc....

I believe the previous owner installed these two aftermarket cables, I just don't know what they were for. They could be factory, but my gut feeling says no.

Both cables run into the driver-side interior fuse-box. From there, I can't tell where they run from the spaghetti mess in there.

The black box labeled NR, was originally sticky velcro'd to the front windshield. The PS/2 port, was tucked away in the driver-side sun visor. Both cables ran up through the A pillar.

For now, I rolled up both cables, and tucked them below the A-pillar next to the left driver-side AC vent housing. Much appreciated for any info!

For the blackbox, it was the manufacturer info of the sticky velcro adhesive, but it didn't give any more info on the actual device in question.

The black box looks like some kind of antenna/signal receiver
Probably had a 2 way radio installed or something

I took the board out of the housing, still baffled on what this is. :(

Edit: It might be a remote start system, if I pull it out, I may mess with aftermarket wiring that was done to it. I found a business card in the glove box for B&R Associates for Automotive Equipment and Design Specialists. I might give them a call to see if they have any records on the truck hahaha.

Thanks! I needed a truck to tow a pontoon in then near future, when I saw the stepside, I knew I had to have it for its uniqueness. Also love the designs of early 2000's vehicles and older.

I didn't see them run to any to fuses, they seem to go past the fuse box entirely toward under the truck, or under the carpet. At that point, I didn't want to disturb any functional wiring of the truck.

Pretty sure it's Astroflex remote start and/or alarm module. A lot of people don't know about Astroflex/Astrostart, I don't think they've been in business for a decade or more. Canadian based company. I'm pretty sure if you peel back that white sticker it'll say "ASTROFLEX, INC" as a whole.

I knew it was a signal receiver of some kind
    What about the other cable?

BTW, this falls under the umbrella of "DEI owns everything alarm-related..."

The shop I worked at installed Avital and Clifford, both owned acquired by DEI also. It would appear DEI either owned or owns Astro at this point. I did a little extra digging at their website out of curiosity, and sure enough, there's a few Astroflex manuals on there... although I'm not sure when DEI bought them. DEI's website does list AstroStart on their website. Here's some older manuals I found:

If you want to dig through manuals to see if you can find yours, try this search for starters.

But I think what you have specifically in the circuit board is going to be the antenna or transceiver module as @Leo's first said. And I see LOTs of shitbag t-taps up in teh dash thru the hole in your pic ... you've got some series repair to do.

I'm not 100% on this, but to me, it looks like the kind of cable you'd typically see for A/V applications or for RS232/Serial/PS2 applications, as if maybe it was part of an integrated system for backup/dash cam/microphone or similar? Or maybe a diagnostic/programming port? Maybe that's what they used for glass break or something? I really don't know.

I suspect if OP gets up in that dash, he may find a similar module to the one in the picture I pasted.

But yeah, note the T-taps. I couldn't see this on my phone earlier while I was stuck in the hospital. Screen too small. I bet there's a goddamn mess of hackery, birds nest up in there. The brain is somewhere... gotta trace the wires back... May also be tucked in the driver's kick panel.

This is really good info! That's probably what it is. I didn't find the central control unit since it was so dark, but I did see a lot of crimped wires / connectors and somewhat disorganized wiring behind the fuse-box trim piece (trim piece directly left of the emergency brake). That's probably where they put the unit.

Unfortunately I was only given an imitation key without any remote fob. I'm hoping this system didn't replace the OEM Toyota programming for a new fob remote.

It sounds like both wires are part of the same system. But it seems I got my homework cut out for me if I really want to pursue this. I'll save it for future me. The truck is perfectly functional otherwise.

    Thanks again shifty!

It probably didn't replace the OEM system. The aftermarket system was probably used because the OEM system only handled lock/unlock/intrustion and the owner wanted more.

You may be able to go to DEI's website and find one of their preferred AutoStart dealers and have them unwire the system. I'd personally prefer to do it myself because I'd re-solder and heatshrink the connections, but ...

You'll probably find the install isn't limited to under the dash. There will probably be simple relays in each door, for window and/or lock control via the alarm brain.

As for rolling back to the factory keyless (TVIP RS3200 system), I clearly see you have the 'deluxe' version of the TVIP system because of the glass break rectangle in the dash. Instructions for keyless programming are linked near the top of this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

If you need fob info, there's nothing to programming a fob in, though it takes a couple of tries for me to get the programming mode sequence right any time I need to do it. How to enter programming mode is in the PDFs you'll find via that thread.
