Rear wheel ANNOYING sound

Where can I buy the REAR wheel bearings and huB assembly at for 02 Toyota Tundra??? IVE LOOKED ABOUT EVERYWHERE AND CANT FIND THEM. Please help!! I would like to buy the pair so the REAR passenger and driver sides so both. Please help!!

 

You won't find a hub for the rear. RA has a complete kit for the bearings, but @shifty` won't approve of the bearings. He can probably find an oem kit for you.



Be warned: you need the Toyota rear axle tool and a 20 ton press to diy this. And this video:

Specifically, after you plug in your VIN and tap search at that EPC-DATA site, you're gonna want to go into the "transmission / chassis" link. From there, I think it's probably next to the 2nd exploded diagram, there should be a link listed as "Rear axle shaft/hub" or similar.

From there you can literally blow up the last exploded diagram, click on any number next to a part and it'll barf out the part number. I don't recommend shopping at that site. But if you have the part numbers and see how it comes together, it makes it easier to shop for parts.

However, I'm going to give you a few warnings because this is a fucking painful job!:

• Be mindful of what brand of parts you buy, some guys on here have skimped out on parts and are on their 3rd time
• Proactively spend the $10 to proactively replace your axle vent, in case it being clogged created this mess
• You may not be capable of doing this job correctly, it is not as simple as completely rebuilding brakes, rebuilding suspension, there's some exact precision involved, where if you don't get it right, you buy new parts and start over or have premature failure
• DO NOT BUY your parts from scAmazon or fleaBay, they're counterfeit/knockoff hell
• A few people have posts showing what work is involved for this with warnings, should you have access to a press and I'm sure they'd give you tips
• That said, having a shop that'll give you a warranty on the work may be worthwhile to some folks; it'll probably pay for itself in the event you don't get it right the 1st time

 

Your Tundra doesn’t have a rear wheel hub. Just an axle, bearing, seal, circling, spacer rings and depending if you have ABS a tone ring.

 

The axle is technically referred to as a "hub" in some parts of Toyota's docs.

 

Only highlighting one example of that so nobody accuses me of talking out my ass.

Flipping thru the exploded diagrams you'll see stuff like this, the wheel stud being referred to as a "hub bolt":

While it's true they do list the "hub" it goes into as an axle shaft, I don't think the language OP used is necessarily incorrect.

Yeah, there's no hub per se. All the shit presses on your axle from the differential side. The old ones have to either be cut off or pressed off.




See that little shiny section above the tone ring retainer? That needs to be 5mm plus/minus a mm or so.

If you can pull the axle shafts out yourself, Having a machine shop do the press work should be $100-$200 per side for the labor, then parts. I paid $150 for the press work and supplied most of my parts; bearings seals etc. They picked up a few things I missed from the Toyota dealership.

 

It is a finicky job though. Make sure they understand the specs for the pressing. Off by even a little and the axles will leak and ruin your new bearings.

This is a large part of the reason I both (1) don't recommend doing it yourself and (2) recommend picking a shop that'll warranty the work.

 

Didn't it take the dealership 3 attempts before they got it right for PHM? It is definitely a weird job. I hope mine never go out.

 

I remember whoever did the work for him screwed it up, redid it, and I recall him saying it was screwed up again. I'm pretty sure it was a dealership.

 

The first shop pressed mine all the way down.

 

I paid $600 for an independent shop to remove the axle, take it to the Toyota dealer to have the press work done and then reassemble it, all parts included. That was about 3 years ago.

 

How hard would it be to measure where the seals should go and then mark it with a sharpie? To avoid a shop message up.

 

My dealership wouldn't press the axles unless they did all the work. Assholes.

Not hard. Me and @Mr.bee used a 5mm allen to know how far to press it. The axle tool has a little notch in it to measure.

I need the correct parts that include the wheel bearing and hub together……the part that has the studs to bolt on too…..I don’t want just the bearing to press it and shit I don’t own a press…..I’m a YouTube mechanic not a pro mechanic. I need the rear wheel bearing hub assembly….please help cuz I need to order it so I can fix my truck…..I can’t find the part anywhere. Even on RockAuto.com doesn’t seem to have it. Please help!!!

The only way to get the entire assembly is from a wrecking yard and then your taking a chance the bearing is good

 

Then, how the hell am I supposed to replace all this shit? Farren is doing all the fucking time. Why isn’t there a better way to replace them? What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Why is the mechanic telling me it’s gonna be 900$ to fix??? I’m from springfield (which is a shitty town full of thieves) so if I was to get both rear axle assemblies…..where is the best price I can get those at???? Please everyone, someone please help me

 

There is oil on the backside of my rear wheel what is the cause of that???
