What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Picked up an 06 Tundra last Saturday. Drove it 810 miles home. Planning on fixing a number of things, but shes runs well and is on a brand new frame and has new lbjs, timing belt, and water pump.

replaced wipers
replaced tailgate cables
rerouted hood release cable since hood wouldnt relatch (the washer pulled through the rubber grommet on firewall)
replaced air filter
ordered

Fumoto F133 quick drain plug (use these on all my vehicles)

this weekend I plan on
changing oil, installing fumoto
flush coolant
grease everything
find a new skidplate

Now I'm debating replacing the suspension parts the previous owner installed. Alignment is bad and ride is shit. Rough Country 2.5" on front and HD springs on rear. Yotamafia has complete Bilstein kits I'm thinking of picking up once my wallet recovers a bit. Plan on replacing the mud klaw tires with Open Country ATIIIs soon too.

Debating replacing the radiator as the thread on it here has my bh puckered.

There may be someone else on here that can help on a used pan. If not, here's the OEM skid plate p/n, why not buy new to go with that new frame?: 5140534010
You'll also need bolts for it, part number 9008011373, and I think you need 5 of them: 3 front, 2 rear.

Price fluctuates on the skid plate. When I looked about 8 months ago, they were running around $210 with free shipping. Looks like they're a little more right now. May be able to find used OEM on fleaBay. Junkyards are always a good bet also.

 

Thanks again man. I'm up in Minnesota and have access to a sandblaster and powder coater so rusty is fine if anyone else wants to get rid of one.

Anyone know what needs to be replaced here? A cam sensor? Is there only one or two, one for each cam?

The real question is how long can I drive it like that? It quickly went away but the truck was struggling to not die.

& theres 4 cams.

 

Believe for the 2UZ there is only the driver's side cam position sensor. I would check the harness wiring and make sure it hasn't gotten eaten into by the belt.

 

Is it under the timing belt cover? I really didn’t want to try and remove that with the corroded bolts, but if I have no choice I guess I will.

Yes, I believe it is.

 

It is, and there was an issue where the belt would eat through it in the earlier models. I want to say there was a TSB for it. Hold up, lemme check my thread and I may edit this.

Weird. The code that link references is a P0340 and I have a P1340.

Is there really only one cam sensor for the 2uz-fe? Must be two codes for the same sensor I guess.

 

No, it's possible there are two on the earlier models. I would need to dig to confirm. Hol' up, lemme check the FSM.

 

Looks like only one.

 

P1340 doesn't exist as a code in the FSM.

Try a different code reader; something isn't jibing here. Or just clear the codes and wait if something pops again. Maybe your ECM is tweaking a bit.

 

I’m hoping to do the big shabang lift and tires at christmas time. So I’m thinking I’ll just do the lbjs then. Full pucker til then….

Omw to work tonight I noticed my driver headlight is out. I turned on my fogs to compensate and halfway to work the driver side fogs go out. WTAF!?

 

Pulled the bed liner out of the old girl tonight. Truck lived in Virginia and Germany a few years, so was really worried about what I would find. Turned out to be in great shape!

 

Watcha gonna do with that liner?

 

Flip it upside down, stick it on the bed & have a cap?

 

I'm throwing that hooker back in the bed, so will keep it. I wanted to see if I had any rust under there. Plan on pulling the bed and cleaning up the frame some when I swap the: Leafs, rear shocks, add airbags, and setup trailer wiring and brake setup.

 

I really want to do that too and I'm tempted to replace the fuel pump when the bed is off. My truck has had a few instances when it didn't want to start and I've wondered if the fuel pump is the issue.

That's never fun, had mine replaced a few months ago.

At least a couple good whacks with your fist or mallet will getcha going agan....for a few more weeks lol.

I’d hate to think the stud would snap in the process of removing the nut from the center of the timing cover. It’d probably do some damage if I didn’t get the cover off to find it before I drove the truck again.

 

Washed it out with some hot water and dawn last night. Looks pretty good. @Jack McCarthy will be pissed
