Trans temp monitoring

I have an 08 5.7, purchased veepeak obd2 and obd fusion app. I am still not able to see transmission temperatures. Any ideas or help would be awesome. TIA

 

To start, you will need a bluetooth OBDII adapter. There are many bluetooth OBDII brands but, I would recommend the one from Veepeak as a lot of of customers have used it without issue.


One of the easiest options to monitor transmission temperatures and to verify ATF pan temperature for the fluid level check procedure, is to download the app OBD Fusionon your phone. Once downloaded, you may purchase the enhanced diagnostics, which will include ATF pan and torque converter temperature gauges and much more by selecting Settings>Purchase Extras>(select your vehicle).

In order to input the pan and torque converter custom PIDs on your OBDFusion app go to “settings” then “User-Defined PIDs”. Copy the information below. Leave everything the same except for these settings.

Sounds like you have everything you need. Like Tsm503 said, you will need to cough up the $15 for the enhanced diagnostics. Then just add away with the different parameters you want to monitor. You can see I have both the pan and converter temps in my setup. This is on my 08 5.7L. OP - some will call the Advanced Diagnostic Pack the PID pack. Last time I paid it was $10.

@Tsm503 @mtucker do either of you know if the veepeak adapter support TPMS ECU?

I have two different versions of the Elm327 OBD adapter and with Fusion and the PID add on for the Tundra, I can't see the tire sensors.

I can't remember if it does or not but the commands are listed on the scangauge site.

 

I use the BAFX (ELM327 Compatible OBDII) and I was not able to read the tire pressure with the OBD Fusion app and the expansion pack. I didn't spend a lot of time on it since I didn't care about it much.

 

What head unit is this and did you need to install Maestro?

 

It is a 10.1" Joying Android head unit Model JY-TQ167N4G-B made specifically for the 2007-2013 Tundra. The head unit supports the factory steering wheel radio controls (I believe you have to use an app on the radio to map the controls) although my truck does not have steering wheel radio controls.

You can get these PIDs using torque pro as well. You will need to add them as @Tsm503 thread has mentioned. This way you only pay for torque pro only.

But the temp do show up.

 

On my 2008 Tundra I cannot get the tranny temps to show up. I have the VeePeak scanner and I used OBD Fusion with the Toyota Add On. I could not see any any transmission temp options.
I also entered the PIDs manually and hit test. It states No Data. Is it possible my 2008 5.7 Tundra does not have the capability of displaying tranny oil temps via OBDII? With the Toyota Add On, I do not see any transmission temp options. TIA.

 

My 2008 5.7 Tundra shows transmission temperatures using OBDII. When I go to add a gauge in ODB Fusion, I find the transmission options under Toyota,Lexus,Scion, Engine and Electronic Controlled Transmission, A/T Oil Temperature 1 (and 2). A/T is just after the many A/F options.

 

Here are my options at that point in the PID listing under Toyota,Lexus,Scion, Engine and Electronic Controlled Transmission. So frustrating.....

Same as mine. I even tried two different scanners: Veepeak and Elm327. No tranny temp options anywhere.
I tried the custom PIDs and tripled checked my programming. SOL.

 

Does your Tundra have the tow package with a dash transmission gauge?

 

My 07 CrewMax Ltd has it.

 

@mtucker if you have Torque Pro here's the Info to get the Transmission temp Pids to show up.

This you will get to by going here in Torque Pro (or just download the CSV file attached to this and add it into torque pro app)

Settings --> Manage Extra PIDs/Sensors --> MENU --> Add custom PID

Downloaded the CSV file and it works with Torque Pro and the VeePeak...thank you so much! Interestingly it does not work with the Elm327 OBDII dongle.
I guess the Toyota enhancement for OBD Fusion was a waste of money. Since I'm an old dipstick and new to this sealed transmission and PID stuff, I have a few questions.
Do I use pan temp for the transmission fluid level check?
Will this custom PID work with OBD Fusion app or just Torque Pro?
Never thought I would be so excited to get a tranny temp!

 

I’m late to the game but just got Veepeak and Fusion app today. Is A/T Oil Temperature 1 & 2, the same as pan & torque converter? TIA

 

Yes, I just checked my OBD Fusion app and A/T Oil Temperature 1 & 2 are what I am using for
pan and converter respectively.
