OEM radio

Have you tried holding the cassette in the palm of your hand, then "smacking it smartly" against a flat surface? I don't know why this would work, but it's the advice Books on Tape would offer.

It’s an analog version of the mp3.

If you don’t know what “analog” means, you can get an overview from a book on tape.

I have an 01 and bought another radio on eBay. It doesn't play in slow motion like the last one, but there is still a loud buzzing noise. The seller said it worked perfectly. I might look around for loose grounds. The buzz sounds very mechanical though. The music sounds PERFECT just this loud loud buzz/rattle.

Sounds like a gear slipppppping

 

Hard to investigate because you can't plug it in to see it working while it's actually turned on. Will report back if I ever fix it...

 

I agree with @artsr2002 -- sounds like a plastic gear slipping/grinding.

Is the buzzing sound coming from the head unit or the speakers.

 

It's 100% coming from the head unit itself. Hard to look inside to see the mechanisms moving

 

As bad as it sounds it's bound to have some wear on the gear. Maybe you can take it apart and see which gear it is.

 

Don't mean to jump the thread but looks like both the Op & Legionnaire's issues have been resolved.

I just picked up my 2001 Tundra with a Tomtom Navigation installed which nixes my previous 2001 Tacoma CDs collection. That is a problem in the Colorado backcountry or at least I think so. I am interested in installing a Tundra Gen 1 OEM radio/CD/cassette too. My vehicle spec sheet shows under Comfort & Convivence

• POCKET W/CLTH INSET & ARMREST DLX AM/ FM ETR/CASS W/4 SPKRS CFC-FREE A/C/TILT
• Is the DLX AM/ FM ETR/CASS W/4 SPKRS the stereo with amplifier or no amplifier?

Since the Tomtom Navigation is installed, and when I purchased the truck it did not come with the original radio. My question is about the part number. Should I be looking for a 86120-0C030 with the amp mounted in the dash?

Not sure whether later run Gen 1 OEM radios like 2004 - 2006 would plug into the factory harness or more correctly there would be no 2001 harness connector for JBL systems.

Best thing to do is to pop off the dash bezel and look to see if you've got the amp.

We can speculate all day about what's on the sheet. I would expect a base model if only 4spk, i.e. no door tweeters, but let's just say ... the build sheets aren't always accurate.

I recommend hitting THIS THREAD and scroll to the "Audio, audio upgrades and cameras..." section, there's directions there on how to find your amp. You have earlier model, so it'll be in the dash. That thread links to a spot with pics of where it'll be, what harnesses to use for bypass etc.
