Hi KroppDuster and others, thanks so much again for helping me and others understand how the TRD lift kit interacts with the TRD skidplate. I have both installed but went with the second option you described.

So, I have my sway bar safely under my TRD skidplate, by not using the kit’s sway bar drop brackets, still using the factory end links.

I want the full front suspension range of motion and plan to install the kit’s sway bar drop bracket, using spacers to keep the sway bar under the TRD skidplate.

Are there spacers commercially available on the market I can purchase for this skid plate drop? I want to enable the full articulation on the front suspension. Thanks for all thoughts re spacers and hardware needed I sincerely appreciate it!

Last question- what are best options on the rear coils to lift the rear end to the same height as the TRD lift kit, instead of using stock coils and the red plastic spacer?

    Many many thanks again KD!

Suspension lift 3 in , 20 in rims, 35 in mud tires, Pro grill.
Here is my Tundra with aftermarket lift installed by Toyota dealer with warranty. Same hight half the price. 35in Mickey Thompson mudders on 20in fuel rims, with a 1in offset. I saved almost $6k by doing this kit instead of doing TRD lift kit. Looks almost the same just no TRD badges on the control arms. I love the way my truck came out. Rides and tows great.

    How'd you save $6k?

Most people aren't paying much more than $4k installed.

Interesting. What did the kit include? Did you replace coil overs, rear shocks, and UCAs?

    Welcome…
So you have an alternative kit (not the OEM TRD aftermarket kit) that a Toyota dealership installed with a warranty and you saved a bunch of money correct?

What kind/name/brand of kit is it?

As mentioned…the TRD Kit is $4K for parts and $2k installation…and those are full prices which few are paying so if you saved $6K means you got it thrown in for free…though I think you may have just thrown out a number

the TRD lift has a 2” spacer in the rear, you just need a spring that lifts 2” dobinsons and old man emu are the ones to look at. Quick research would to read every post in this thread and every post in the mega lift thread.

    link for springs.

I just installed an icon stage 7. My 4x4 shop has spacers that worked well to drop the trd skid and cat skid. I also have a C4 bumper and this also got in the way when they dropped the skid plate. They ended up cutting an inch off the skid plate and now everything comes together perfectly.

I have a GFC camper and a steel rear bumper so we replaced the rear springs with OME LC springs and it turned out perfect. Rear end is actually a tad high but we think it will be damn near perfect once the springs break in a bit.

@Taikowaza curious to hear about this if you move forward and pictures. You do great narration on your mods/experiences. I used your post to ensure the skid plate / sway bar was properly installed and fogs left.

Glad I could help out @Taikowaza!

For the spacers on the skid plate, I’ve got a parts list of what I used over on my build thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/dusters-double-cab-build-the-daily-do-it-all.110886/#post-2964357

I ordered everything from McMaster-Carr, but if you’ve got a good hardware store nearby then you could probably snag it all there.

As for the rear springs, as others have pointed out, there are plenty of options from OME and Dobinsons. I’m running the OME 2866 coils in the rear (more details on my above mentioned build thread, if you want them). Others are running the Dobinsons C59-169 or C59-223V.

Honestly, both are great products from Australian companies and you can’t go wrong with either. I went OME purely because they had availability when I needed it. I know the Dobinsons 159s are still majorly backordered but the 223Vs are in stock.

Could you just swap out the Bilsteins for Fox or Kings, then use the rest of the kit? Or, is that just a waste of money?

Many thanks again KroppDuster! I am going to work with a 4X4 shop I trust on this last step, not the dealership this time.

I’m hoping it’ll be relatively straightforward what I’m hoping to do, 1) install the TRD 3” lift kit’s sway bar spacers, 2) use spacers to install the TRD lift kit below that, 3) replace the stock coil and kit spacer with a single bada$$ coil! ;)

I think my shop will have some ideas re spacers and bolt options so I’m not too worried about that. The coil is my main question, progressive vs variable and then determining the best possible stance (and exactly how much lift that coil will give, under load etc seems tricky to me.

It’s stupid I know, but I’m not (at all) a fan of the “aqua” Dobinson coil Powdercoat color. I saw on Dobinson Direct that they have red versions of coils. That would be awesome and match the front coilover. I couldn’t find any of the models suitable for our trucks in red, if there are any leads out there I’d love to learn more[/QUOTE]

Oh you can do anything (all of that and more).

It’s pretty much what this thread is about and folks like @KroppDuster and others giving great advice and taking us on the journey as there are other options besides those two…see his build thread above.

Finally...I was able to drive the truck a few times this weekend and this morning around town. I hadn't driven since the end of November when I hurt my back, so a comparison is a bit hard. The truck feels great. I have heard others other saying "it drives like stock" and agree that it feels similar and that is a good thing. The amazing part if that it feels so similar and I have f load range 35x12.5s on it.

I am headed to the Washington coast this weekend and plan to drive it on the beach. Probably won't do any logging roads this trip (don't think my back is ready to get bumped around). Curious what the gas mileage is for the trip and will report it back.

My MPGs are slowly going down .1 at a time :) Started around 17.4 when I had the lift done. Currently sitting around 16.7 after about a month. I still only have 2,000 miles on the truck though. So curious to see if I will see any bump in MPGs like others have seen after around 5,000 miles or so...

Will be great to hear your driving impressions after a nice road trip!

I keep hovering around 15 but i haven’t really did any long trips yet, mostly local to 2 hours type drives. I will be driving out to California in April so that my give me a better avg.

Looks great. Does it have any rake? I can't quite tell from the pic - curious as I also have the TRD lift and mine feels like it ended up with a slight squat in the back :) Now trying to decide if I can switch out the spacers in back for something ever so slight larger, or maybe switching out the springs for Dobinsons or OME or something might help give me just a little rake for hauling/towing, etc.

Did you need wheel spacers for the 35/12.5 tires? Or does the TRD lift/UCAs create more room between the tire and UCAs that the 12.5 wide tire doesn't rub the UCA?

no wheel spacers and the only rub I am getting is on the inside tip of the mud flaps, which I plan to just trim a bit.

driving from Seattle to the Washington coast now and averaging 14.6 mpg. Prior to the lift I had noted it was 16.4.

Good to know, thanks. I don't want to get rid of my 20" TRD off-road wheels, but plan to get the TRD lift and 35/12.5s, so this is good news. Hopefully it doesn't rain your entire trip.

Yes, you should be good - and I agree as I had no interest in moving away from the TRD OR 20” - just like the red tundra they previewed the lift kit on at SEMA.

I was worried there would be poke with the tires, but was pleasantly surprised. I was actually pre-planning the Rough Country fender flares…but no need!

Definitely read @Taikowaza ’s post earlier in this thread if you plan to do the TRD skid plate as well. It helped to instructing my dealer/installer

I have a slight rake but wish it was a little more exaggerated so when I'm loaded it evens out.

I've enjoyed reading this entire thread. I just got the TRD lift installed by a local Toyota dealer on my 2023 Tundra SR5 4WD TSS Off Road. They gave me a discount on the kit and the installation Here's the skinny:

    -TRD lift kit (msrp $3,995) = $3,495
    -Dealer install = $1,336.95
    -+ tax = omg
-Service tech allowed me to keep factory fog lights, though the kit recommends removal and placing plastic covers
-After inspecting the install, the parts specialist recommended 33X11.5 20 tires to avoid rub in off road settings that I use. Kept the 20" TRD wheels that came with the TSS Off Road package. I went with Nitto Ridge Grapplers--seemed best option for quality and price. Of course, the tires added a lot to the price, including a 4 wheel alignment.
-Service department carefully wrapped and boxed all my original parts and put them in the TRD lift box. I am now trying to sell those original parts on eBay. If you know someone who has wrecked their new Tundra...

When I picked up my vehicle after 2 days in the shop, the service manager told me that they will likely increase the hours and install cost the next time. They said the install manual was 72 pages and very complicated. Evidently, it took them longer than I was billed for.

Driving is a thrill as you are higher up and it has a much firmer ride than my old suspension, but not uncomfortable. I have not taken off road yet, though it will clearly handle rocky elevation changes that I access. My original set up handled rocky off road settings fairly well, though some bouncing around, catching small shrubs in the frame, and a little slip with the original Falken AT tires. I can't wait to get off road.

Gas mileage with the new lift and tires immediately went down between 3 and 4 MPG on the highway. I'm sure driving habits affect this...

I believe I have made a high quality performance improvement and investment in my Tundra. This is an elite Toyota modification installed by the dealer with warranty. Pricey, but for my needs I am very satisfied.

    Happy trails, y'all.

Very nice Maestro! I agree - like my truck even more with the OEM lift!

Has anyone in Southern California/San Diego Area have a dealer install this? I was thinking of purchasing this but I inquired at my closest dealership where I purchased my truck and they quoted $4k for the kit then$6k to install.
