Sharing an update: I'm having my Icon setup installed today. Normally, I do all of my own work but I opted to have a local off road shop install this since it's so extensive. Full front & rear upgrades so I wanted to save my back.

I noticed earlier that Icon has updated their tech notes for all lift kits (except for the Stage 1 &2 kits) to include this statement:
    upload_2022-11-17_11-33-43.jpg
My shop is going to do some flex tests on the truck at full droop once the front end is fully assembled. We were reading the Icon tech notes and we can't tell 100% if Icon is accidentally interchanging the terminology of the "TRD Off Road" package with the TRD Pro. My truck is an SR5 with the TRD OR package (i.e. the red off road axles) so we'll see if the kit over extends the front axles or not.

They're going to call their Icon Rep to investigate that part # for the diff drop kit since that P/N isn't listed on the Icon site. More to come on that as I hear from the shop.

Thanks for the update. I looked for the diff drop part number too and came up empty.

Looking up the Toyota part numbers they list leads me to believe the TRD PRO and TRD OR package are both using the same front axles, like you indicated, so I imagine you'll be fine.

Thanks for confirming that @korslite. Of course, I had to run out and look under my truck to verify I did have those axles on my TRD OR. I'm having my Icon stage 7 installed next month and am curious what else comes up between now and then. I had to use a diff drop kit on my old 4Runner with an Icon lift. Cheap part. Wasn't a big deal.

Indeed. I think there is a design issue with dropping the diff on the 3rd Gen though. Case in point, the dudes @ AMKC have said on multiple occasions that they don't see an easy way to drop the diff. It seems it's much harder than slapping in a couple of spacers, like most trucks. I think that's the reason we haven't seen many (any?) diff drop kits become available yet. Not 100% sure though.

Might be better to look into getting the longer axles from the TRD lift kit in the long run. I guess I'm just going to hope for the best since I already installed my Icon stuff weeks ago LOL. I don't recall this note from when I did mine.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but just something we'll keep an eye on. I think the tech note is relatively new. I don't recall it being there a few weeks ago when I had my last convo with my local Icon dealer.

If...and hopefully it's a big "if"...we need extended length axles, it seems there are already aftermarket options out there. I posted about it earlier in the thread, but worth sharing again: https://www.tundras.com/threads/3rd-gen-suspension-lift-mega-thread.108483/page-17#post-2952431

The TRD extended length axles are around $400/ea. The aftermarket options are ~$150/ea.

Not saying it’s good or bad but here’s full droop with my icons I just put on. This is without the sway bar. I wanted to get the extended axles in there but you still can’t buy everything separate from the Trd lift kit yet 927C366D-B80A-4683-8973-D81EA2EABACC.jpg
    Here’s the other side stock.

Now I wish I had measured droop before I took the factory stuff off. Curious if there is even difference on mine since I left the factory UCAs.

I think I’m switching up topics here and this may have been covered but I just purchased the icon dynamics stage 5 kit. Anyone have any reviews on it?

Update to my earlier post regarding CV angles & other topics post Icon install...

Got the Icon setup installed. Parts list in my signature, if anyone is curious. Some notes:
    • CV angles are totally fine. Checked them at full droop and they're not binding or over extended at all. So the tech notes for Icon are spot on. If you have the TRD OR or the TRD Pro (same axles) then you're totally fine.
    • My spacer solution for the skid plate (Link to my build thread post here) worked out great. I have not noticed any clearance issues between the sway bar & skid plate using the Icon sway bar drop bracket.
Initial thoughts: I drove 65 miles home from the shop and the ride is noticeably better. Responsiveness & recoil are much improved. It handles great and I notice the increase in travel without it being "spongy." Overall, 1 day later and only 65 miles into it...I'm impressed. I'll snap some pics, though it's nothing others haven't already seen before, this weekend. I also have before measurements so I'll take new measurements this weekend as well and share.

Thanks for the updates Kroppduster, looks great! So the Pro & OR trucks axles are okay but it looks like the TRD Sport would require new front axles? Is that the consensus?

It seems that way. It looks it would apply to the TRD Sport and the standard 4WD models, basically any truck with the standard black axles. My guess is the standard black axles aren’t high angle axles and the red axles are. It’s tough to know 100% without being able to put them side by side.

Please excuse this if it has already been covered, read through most of the pages on here and haven’t been able to find and mention if previous gen suspension will work on 3rd gen trucks? Have a set of kings on my current truck (2016) that I would love to use when my 2023 comes in. Thanks in advance!

    Unfortunately, no.

The top hat is the same between the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen, but the bottom mounting point on the LCA is different.

    Hey All,

I pulled the trigger on the Stage 4 and I am now worried because I have a TRD Sport. I sent Icon an email asking about the diff drop bracket and if its actually needed. Had I knwn this one I bought it I prob would have waited. Anyone running this setup on a TRD Sport? Im curious what everyone is setting theres too. I did order a cornfed rear 1" spacer kit and wanted 3 inches ain the front but Im a bit worried that may not be pratical now. Thanks

Did you get it with the extra discount from 4WP? I was eyeballing the stage 3 kit all day at $1408 normally $1758 per their site. Waited until the evening to order and it wasn't at the $1408 anymore. Called 4WP this morning and they said the system had a error and gave the 20% off retail then an additional 20% off. So bummed I was finally good for once and decided to check with the wife first and it bites me in the ass lmao. Ohh well still ordered, gonna have them price match Summit Racing to save another $140 and I got 12% in cash back from Rakuten along with the $125 4WP bucks and 10% back for using my car care credit card!

I’m curious as well. I have a base SR5 4wd (no trd). I’m about to put RC 2” coil overs on front with a cornfed 1” on back (parts are sitting in my garage). Should I be concerned about my axle length?

Wow! Yes, I guess I got the extra discount - got the stage 7 for $2745.71 + tax. They already called to confirm that all items except two were in stock and ready for pickup.

seems like this is the right thread to post this question since it has been discussed several times generally...

for those of you who have pinned back the felt in the front wheel well, how specifically did you do so?

it looks to be a 12mm hole in the body but it isn't threaded. i could tap it and add threads but haven'theard of anyone needing to do so. i haven't found a plastic rivet that will work either.

295/65/20 toyo at3's going on this week and trying to get the pinning out of the way beforehand. thanks in advance for the help.

Behind the wheel, I made a small L bracket from one of the holes where the bracket was to existing hole in the felt than I installed two extra zip ties thru the felt.
The front was more of a pain. I removed the existing bracket, cut a piece and bend it back to original shape. Nothing too complicate.

I just drilled out the hole to enlarge a little. Hit it with some black spray paint and used an oem push pin.

Shucks. Pretty sure its the same push pin size used to hold the grill on in the corners by the grill plugs.

I drilled out the hole based on the size of the push pin. So any pin can work I guess.
