I've found either the scissor is binding up or the nylon wheel is worn/broken & popping/popped out of the track. Usually one of those two. Once I found the bolt holding the bottom of a track had come loose letting the whole track wobble, but that was an oddity.

Changed engine oil with filter 200 miles early today because the weather was beautiful. No pics. Most likely last "good" day of the year 2021.

Also changed downstream oxygen sensor because weather.
    20211117_070329.jpg

Pre-fab on the extra fouler piece. Went ahead and threw this on because I'm not totally convinced the catalytic converter is bad, but didn't want to waste such a good day for another CEL for the same thing.
    20211117_070728.jpg

Removed trapped crunchies. Surprisingly felt gnarly, but very little came back on the chaser. No pics of it out.
    20211117_072631.jpg

Pics of the old sensor. Looks like it has some build up on the seal, and some white soot on the shield for the sensor.
    20211117_074826.jpg
    20211117_074840.jpg

The only writing this had on it was a big red check mark, and "KAY".
    20211117_074832.jpg

Not sure what brand this is, but went back in with denso. Part number in first picture of this post.

Fishing the wire through the floor board, and seating the grommet was the most tedious part of this for me.

    Easy peazy.

Happy to report 115 miles with no CEL for the P0420 code. Now if something major does pop a code, I'll notice the light instead of just ignoring it like I was doing.

First big issue with the virus. Drivers side window out of track on my commute into work.
    20211124_161507.jpg

Pulled into work, and took the door panel off in the parking lot with a pry tool, and my multitool.
    20211124_170134.jpg

Will be attempting repair immediately after work because I will be the last one out the door. Parking lot should be empty.

Following along with this video on a matrix
    https://youtu.be/aTcvFOTs0QA

Looks like two common causes for this are the silicone holding the window mount to the mount breaking, and a bolt falling out of the mount for the window.

Will be cleaning the window track also, and lubing with Loctite LB 8801 Silicone lubricant found at work from my tool box.
    20211125_004556.jpg
    20211125_004736.jpg

Hoping it's just a bolt that had fallen out of the window, and I can replace after cleaning window track, and lubing. If so, 90 in.lb thread lock will be going in with the new/old bolt.

More to come on my el-cheapo repair.

The story so far as it has unfolded can be found on the Best Gen lunchtable thread here. More posts below that by me. Just click the arrows to follow along.

I can't get a good picture of it, but the scissor is bent inside the door. Not sure if I Cann just straighten it out, and get by or if I need to replace the one piece that's bent.

Leaning towards bending back straight if I can get my Goliath hands up in there.

Drove home sitting sideways using my body to block the rain from the seats, and interior as much as possible.
    20211125_055522.jpg

Walked down to the ten of pain, and saw that the wind has flipped it on its roof. :eek2: Tried to flip, and it was way too heavy for me with leaves, and constant rain.

Went inside, and gathered old shower curtain. Stuffed under the windshield wiper, the light bar mount, and added another magnet to it.
    20211125_060941.jpg

Formulated a plan coming home. Take the speaker out. Opens up hand room. Find something to use as a spacer/bend point such as a 1x1 wood block, and tie a rope to the end of the arm that's bent. Hold spacer and have someone else pull the rope until straight. Hoping that the wheel in the scissor track doesn't come out.

Unsure of how that will go, but also unsure of cost just to replace regulator or tracks. Or even the correct terminology here.

Perhaps, remove glass, extract scissor from door, bend in a warm space?
I'm thinking bending in door will stain the wheels at the track, potentially snapping a wheel off or bending the wheel fastener so it always drags in the track.

And it was absolutely the worst weather day it could have happened on.

Found a new regulator on RA. Will order a new one if I can't bend the old arm straight. Been cold, and pissy all day. Will drive the V6 the next coming days, and try to mend it soon...

Been resting my body. Happy turkey day.

Just discovered unleaded 88 petrol in my home town. 15% ethanol verus the 10% in regular unleaded. A few cents cheaper than reg gas.

The placard says flex fuel vehicles, and also 2001 and newer. Did not fill up with this because I was unsure, but could I run this?

I'm enticed by the cheaper cost, but is it worth it or can I even run it? Unsure. Figured I'd ask.

    Thrown for a loop!

I've seen this in other states but not around here. Always wondered why it was cheaper but the extra ethanol makes sense.

Owners manual should say the maximum ethanol content. Some newer toyotas say it on the factory gas cap.

Finally broke over 300 miles to a tank on thus new commute. Official number was 330.9 miles. An average of just under 30mpg. Still learning this new route.

Driving on the interstate means I'm keeping up with traffic longer, and running the engine harder than I did when I was commuting on 2-lanes.

Usually for the first 51 miles of my commute I can control my speed. Seems like if I keep it under 65mph is when my mpgs are greatest.

The remaining 18-ish miles of my commute is like driving in madmax. Constantly fighting other drivers for my place on the road. This really cuts into my mpgs. There isn't really an alternate way I could go unless I moved.

Kinda toughing out with the car right now

Take a spot in the right lane and let it eat. I like to cruise 8-10 lengths behind an 18 wheeler, anyone that merges in front of me quickly moves. And you dont have to pit anyone.

Also, for accurate information, and a better picture of real world conditions. Sometimes working nights there will be frost on the car when I get off work so I have to let it warm up so I can see to drive. That's been happening a lot lately even if I crack all four windows.

Not really sure how often or how long until I decide that I can see enough to drive. Changes every time that happens. Anyways, what I'm getting at here is that there is some fuel use while not in motion.
