I havent tried to fire it up in years. I’ve got half a dozen pandora stations i listen to. With ads. I dont save anything because wireless headphones are garbage in motorcycle helmets. And all my vehicles are too old for bluetooth.

    Nice detail @shifty`

I have small hope of a v5 w temp down the road but my openers are 8500’s and I think will work with the v4. We will see I guess. If I’m forced to choose between garage door and temp I guess I have to pick garage door. But temp will be nice and I’m doing the harness with it for sure in hopes of both working.

I’m a cold / hot wimp, north county San Diego doesn’t help. Anything outside of 60-70 and overcast and we complain.

Don't forget. Gentex also has 2-button HL5 openers you can install in any plastic, and also the 3 button HL5 units you can install in the headliner. (note: the cheaper items on that page are just the bezel, not the actual xmitter)

Interestingly, this is basically the unit our "new" '20 Highlander has. There's similar from Gentex, new, from $129-$249. The used-resale guys don't want you to know you can find some pretty cheap deals on this stuff.

PS - I may just install this ambient temp unit and fond another vehicle with a temp gauge I can integrate somewhere in the vehicle, or maybe my head unit will support temp inputs? Bound to be another solution. We may be limiting ourselves by thinking it needs to be in the mirror - just sayin'

I did custom buttons in the Tacoma overhead for my lift master remote. I’m rather fond of them. But space wise, nothing beats the mirror. And it’s something my wife won’t be annoyed with if she drives it.

those square ones in our curvy trucks might look worse than the clip on visor remote im using.

I mean, I really think something like this would look great in our trucks.

    https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/frameless-mirrors/?sku=ADVGENFL85EXP

These no-wire battery operated units look killer, but lack of compass or temp and no auto-dimm seems like a lot of nothing for the price.

    https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/frameless-mirrors-homelink/

    Or this (adds auto-dim):

    https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/homelink-connect/

Same price as the 1st but with a more period-correct look:

    https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/auto-dimming-mirrors/?sku=ADVGEN45AB5

Same as the $299 "or this" one above, but for $229 (sad, no compass or temp, but is auto-dim, I've seen same on fleabay as low as $159):

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220GFLCHLN/Gentex-ADVGENFLCHLN.html

Compass, temp, auto-dim but no HL for $175:

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220GEN20A/Gentex-ADVGEN20A.html

And that two-button thingamabob for $149:

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220HLBP1/Gentex-GENHLBP1.html

The Tacoma part number w/compass, autodim, HL is 8781004110 or 87810-04110. Gentex part number is AECHL5. Was also used in Lex Rx350 apparently, 2018, 2019?

I only run apples stock music app. It’s been a drain on the last 3 phones I’ve had when Bluetooth is on.

doesn’t matter much now that I plug in the second I’m in the truck

Can you brief me on the camera situation? I'm sure it's on here somewhere downstream, but I haven't run across it. I promise to be no help, I'm just wondering what is holding you back.

Ah, now it makes sense. I was disappointed to see they discontinued the sony I put in the boys truck and 100-200 if found over what I paid for his before the supply chain issue. Grabbed a new open box that popped up on Amazon last night. I need a rear camera, I cant park anymore with more rake, lol.

This forum is expensive. I've been reading the battery posts for the last hour. 2005 DC - go to the 27F AGM and diode fuse? Probably mod the box a tad? That cover it?

Yup, definitely a Homelink v3 mirror from the pic, looks like the same p/n as my Gentex 453, except with mine the compass is hidden under the glass, and your readout window looks larger, like it may be compass + temp.

I thought because my 453 mirror came out of a 2015 Honda, I'd be able to use it with my newer Chamberlain C203 opener - I've got two doors, one newer Security 2.0 compliant Chamberlain C203 opener, the other Chamberlain unit is 17yrs old and not Security 2.0 compliant - but I came to learn if I don't have at least a Homelink v4, there's no chance in hell I can open the newer Chamberlain C203 door, and even with HLv4, I may not be able to open.

That sent me hunting for other options supporting a standard windshield keystone. I think if I went with an HL4 mirror from a newer vehicle - 2017+ maybe? - it will most likely support both the new and old door opener. But there's still a risk. Unfortunately, it seems like when Gentex moved to HL5, the field of options narrowed a bit, and as you and Bob are aware, the extra options you get with it changed. Seems a lot of OEMs are moving to put the temperature readout in a console, in the HUD or cluster, or at the head unit.

What device are you using your phone with that is draining the battery this much? My guess is it is not using a Bluetooth LE or a later iteration and so the phone, which has that, can't use those benefits, draining your battery faster.

It’s also worth noting that OEM radios often lag behind the market due to the design timelines. So even when the car is new, the radio is already old. Hence, with BTLE around 10 years old now, it’s still relatively new for oem auto audio systems. Which is likely one of the reasons most of the OEM solutions I’ve seen rely on wired CarPlay / AA instead of wireless.

Ah. Maybe that's why the cheapo Kenwood Excelon HU I'd installed in my previous truck would drain my phone 35%+ making the trip to Summit Racing and back (55mi round trip). I could never figure out why in the hell I could take a trip in any of our other vehicles and never see that kind of battery drain. Didn't matter which app I was using, either. The weird part about the Kenwood is, the radio interpreted my bluetooth connection as a a headphone/headset being attached, based on the icon it showed.

I don't even know what the big three or two is, but I'm OK with that. I disconnected my battery for the recent welding, thing was clicking when I went to restart a day later. I've known that battery was past it's life expectancy.
