What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I forsee a @Tundra2 epic ”Campfire” story. Fortunately, I have not run across any “Three Men in a Bar “ stories in the Knoxville News Sentinel

Looks good. Just an FYI, the previous owner probably checked on a replacement glass and found out it was too expensive or discontinued. That appears to have a curved rear glass so expect a hefty price if you can replace it.

 

Replaced the fan clutch as after 15-20 minutes the temp would start creeping up in 90+ degree weather.

Cleaned the throttle body (since I had the intake tube off for more room).

 

Or, he could try Plexiglass. I've used a local plastics shop to build quite a few projects and they are cheap and good. You could probably take some measurements and have the plexiglass cut out, drill holes for the hinges and latch's and be good to go.

 

Nice. I'm pretty sure my fan clutch is going out too. Did you have to remove the belt to get the fan out?

 

Nope, fortunately the pulley didn't pop off once I had the clutch & fan off. Just cocked itself a little sideways from belt tension but went right back to where it should once the new one was held against it.

FYI it comes out the bottom so removing the skid plate is a must. I also put a nut back on just in case while finagling it out.

 

Got myself an all pro off-road rack. Should start on building it sometime this weekend.

We're approaching 16 hours. The front end is just about done. We have a bolt for the steering rack we haven't been able to get back in place. Need to torque a lot down still. Tomorrow we start on the rear.

 

Should just say good job men but the ole fart in me says to put that 3 ton jack to use for extra safety if nothing else….cherish or curse the moment…that’s all

 

Whatcha think retorque at 3 miles, or wait a thousand?

 

We've been using that jack both days for safety but had to move it earlier to give us more room for the steering rack fight.

 

Why not both?

 

Go hit some jumps then re-torque it. Give 'er the good shake down.

Looks like sway bar bushing is missing, battle that when its back on the ground.

I hate the steering rack bolts. I struggled with one last time around for maybe an hour.

 

That is one LONG upper ball joint.....Is it to fix the control arm angle due to a lift from the Rancho to Bilstein's?

 

Added a sink to the pull out kitchen. It comes apart and sores inside. Adding running water next.

 

Yup, those upper arms flip the ball joint and it helps to relieve the upper arm angle.

You don't know the half of it. The last two days has been filled with insults, swearing, shit-talking, Noah's disturbing jokes, and a garage of flatulence.

 

I was gonna say at least Noah kept his clothes on but I don't wanna give him any ideas.

 

I’m just made we 100% forgot to take a measurement before we started. I’m certain it is sitting higher up front even though we’re at 0 on the 6112s.

Have parts list started for next job.

I’m hopeful rear will go more smoothly than front did. Hopeful we can finish rear in 9hrs tomorrow.

At least it’s off the jack stands up front now.

 

@jpink Did you guys use spring compressors or just the weight of the truck to compress the springs in place? Also do you need someone to guide the shock through the top plate while you were doing it?

Only asking because I plan to put Bilstein 4600s on my truck next month.

Edit: Nevermind, I’m guessing your 6112s were already preinstalled with the shocks.

 

I had a local shop assemble. Made install not only easy, but much more safe.

I need to add more to this thread but here’s my journey so far.

 

Definitely an alternative but being that it’s curved, it won’t seal. It’s definitely better than nothing though.
