Nice, which tire are you running with the 5100's and OEM coils?

I finally ordered a 1 inch body lift. I'm so excited. Now I'm one step closer to 35's.
Still need some 17s and bigger brakes and gears.

What ratio gears ya going with? I was leaning towards 4.56 but I think with extra weight and such Ill eventually go 4.88 for 33s. I have a V6 tundra though

Still running the Cooper Discovery 265/65R17s that were on it when I bought as they are fairly new. But thinking I'm going to have some massive air gaps now that I've upgraded the shocks, even with the OEM springs that I did not change out. With 150k miles on the original KYB shocks I think it was time to relieve them of their duties.

I have a v8 and I do mostly highway miles so I was thinking 4.30 but I might go 4.56

I want taller tires, because longer gears arent recommended. 3rd is in the sweet spot, but could afford some extra leg.

but ill probably have to idle at 70 in OD if i gather the confidance to swap on a 6 or 8 speed slushbox and controller, when a wide ratio 5 speed stick is comparable in price without the double OD. A stick truck can sound good no matter what, this a340 has me at all the wrong revs all the time. I dont know if i have 3.90s or 4.10s but thats a negligible difference. The titan had a lockup .7 OD and 2.93s (and stock 33’s). But when the pinion cooked the bearings we got a 3.36 diff with the aluminum cover from a newer truck from a JY.

I'm about to go out and adjust the rear drums. Going to jack it up, put it in neutral, etc etc. Will I be able to hear the shoes lightly drag the drums when I spin the tires, or is it more of a feel on the amount of force it takes to spin the wheel? I had the drums off Saturday to clean and inspect and now I'm just trying to get it back in spec.

Just wondered. When OEM coils are used with 5100's there's oftentimes some funky handling that goes along with the setup. A heavy tire and wheel are almost a requirement. Have you driven it yet?

more about this. Ive got 3rd gen tacoma take offs i wanna use, that are 2” longer, but softer. How much is tire weight goint to affect my options on the road? I can fine tune the weights for balance, but theres more than a pound @ 31’s vs (fatter) 33’s right?

Turn the adjusters in a bit, then while the rear wheels spin, hammer the parking brake on/off until both sides ‘clunk’ at the same time. Maybe or maybe not it helps to have it in reverse? I always do it in reverse.

I'm sure there is more than a 1lb difference in all 31's v 33's. I know the 33" BFG KO2's on my Jeep are significantly heavier than the 31" BFG KO2's I took off. I'm not understanding your question about your road options though. Can you be more specific?

Got my lower radiator shroud installed and the rest of my parts in for the exhaust manifold change. Now I just need a full day off to do it.

I do it this way too. I also tighten the adjusters with the star wheel until the parking brake engagement is solid and positive.

Yeah, 5100's are designed for heavier unsprung weight. If you have the clip set at or below the 3rd setting you may like the ride. Feedback would be welcomed after you drive it. Thx.

Drove my truck about 1200 miles between Saturday and today. Saw trans temps get pretty high, steady 165 on the highway in 113 degrees weather and as high as 189 up the grapevine at 106 degree weather. Gonna replace trans fluid this week if I can, planning to do the same drive August 30th.

I’ve never driven the Vine, but herd about it. When I had the scan gauge hooked up the to 2010 4runner; going up a long slow climb(off roading, 2wd but in low gear) I got temps into the 210+ area! I’m really glad I had amsoil full synthetic WS fluid in there. There is no external cooler on the 5thies, but after seeing those temps it makes me want to add one! I’m always pleasantly pleased when I see the low temps in the truck.

The vine going south is seriously hard on cars. I always see people overheated not even 1/4 of the way up. Going north is not nearly as strenuous. In winter it snows there often and becomes a nightmare, they tend to close it.

Are you guys talking about the pan temperature or the torque converter temperature?

Usually you want to look at pan temp

the pan temp is a general temp of the entire fluid that coming back from the cooler. The converter temp is all over the place because it locks and unlocks, so it’s hard to get a baseline off the converter I guess?
