What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Are you sure you have clear coat? My work van white tundra came without it.

The clear coat is a toyota problem in my opinion.

 

Yes I do. I only have to look at the inside of the fuel door to see the paint without clear on it.

New wheels from energy suspension just came in for the creeper. I was concerned about it being bright red, but these actually match the cushions, so im good. Just need to buy some dremel cutting wheels to cut off the originals now.

 

New key fob case since the 02 taco has damn near the same key and the same key fob. Cement gray AJT should make the tundra key pop a bit eh? Might even order an black one with red screws for the tacos.

 

It's definitely the wax. Pretty sure mine has never been done and has been in the TX sun it's whole life.

I ended up ordering 4 of the the desert armor spot/flood combo ambers

 

Today I got my truck back with the nitro 4.56 gears, nitro helix LSD and Eaton locker in front installed. Also changed the rear bearings, o ring, gaskets whatnot.

Now to wear it in over weekend and run the switch for the locker. Pretty excited!

 

I’ve been heavily contemplating gears, I’d probably do a Elocker for the rear, still not sure what ratio id go, what size of tires you running, and any extra weight added?

 

285/75R16 KO2s. No extra weight yet but will soon have skid plates, sliders and a RTT. I’ve only driven her home and at 1st I couldn’t feel much of a difference with the 4.56 gears. Then I realized I was accelerating a lot faster than I usually would. Haven’t tested freeway driving yet.

 

Washed the truck today. And the god damn hard water strikes again. Water spots after I drove it from the spots I wasn’t able to dry.

 

Question please: I'm changing out uppers and lowers and on the upper, should the top of the boot slide past the metal ring? Instructions do not say to do so, but want to do it right. The second pic is how it sits now.

 

I believe it sits just above the snap ring. Been a while

Just did mine last week and did the same.

 

Brakes felt stiff during weekly drive. Bled brakes once home with new to me help. Last time I use the new found help for truck things. Brakes are worse than before, but I hope to be off tomorrow night, and can single man bleed using 1A-Auto method. Last time I allow that help to help. Sidelined.

Good note, truck fired right up like old times without throwing some hokey multiple cylinder misfire. Think it was jealous.

I need to change my rear diff fluid this week, need to order two new crush washers first. The rear has the LSD sticker on the pumpkin been reading I should use

was going to go with royal purple but ready negative reviews on other threads, then was going to run the Valvoline because read positive review (it also come in a bag for easy fill).

The more I read, it looks like Lucas is the way to go. I’m lost and just need a push in the right direction.

Truck has 166k and it’s probably never been changed. Price doesn’t matter just want the right/best.

 

Two things I have done:

1) Reused Crush Warsher.

2) Used Dino Lucas 80w-90 (non-syn) in the Rear. (3.1 Quarts on 2002 with LSD 4wd).


Success with both.

 

Motul 90pa, correct 90 weight and proper amount of friction modifier already in the additive package. 2 jugs needed for the 3+ qts the rear diff needs, each bottle is 2L.

I've only had to replace the crush washers once on a diff out of a late 70's Toyota, that had been clearly mushroomed out by over tightening.

Today I slapped on some aftermarket fender flares from eBay that fit pretty nicely. Had them painted by the local auto body shop for a pretty penny. Would’ve done it myself but I suck at Painting.

Last week I installed rancho 2.5 Quicklift coilovers and a 1.5 - 2 inch aal kit. New rough country shocks in back as well. Aal really makes the ride enjoyable.

Might put on one of the better uca brands later down the road.

 

Headers came finally.


@Professional Hand Model, I remember reading you used different gaskets on your install. What type of gaskets were they?

 

You can refer back to my build page for part#/pics, but for the Manifold (Percy/Taylor Cable Seal4Good) and for the collectors (Remflex DIY Sheet) cut using the JBA Gasket as Template.

All Toyota New Studs/Nuts at Manifold and the provided JBA Bolts at collectors with Toyota Nuts.


You live in Coolifornia so your job should go double fast and if needed you can hire a garage for half price compared to the Island.

Organized some of my ratchet straps and got the big ones and the choker straps into one tote with a come along and a moving blanket. Now I just need another tote for the smaller straps and I’ve got 7’ bed space left.. with easy removal of the totes for the full 8’ or the bed extended for more

 

Haven't had a 8' bed since selling my Cummins in 06, miss that extra space.

 

It’s nice. But the lack of interior space is annoying to an extent. Cap helps with that too though

 

Nice job! Got some questions: what material are you using for the inner panel (the darker (black?) part of yours) and what did you use to adhere it to the plastic? Did you do anything special to fit it around the bulges and curves, or does the material you use just stretch as needed?

I'm in the middle of the same job. I was afraid to do it to mine, so I got a panel from a scrap yard. Took forever to get the old fabric off, only to discover some cracks in the plastic. It's ABS, so I'm going to try the "dissolve scrap ABS in acetone and patch it" method to repair and re-inforce the cracks... but now that it's hotter than hell out here, that whole project is on the back burner for awhile.
