I’m in Waxahachie, a relatively small town about 30 miles south of Dallas. When I made the police report, they said they were hitting Tundras and Priuses more and more all over the country.

Someone else told me it’s the platinum inside them that makes them valuable. I had no idea they had platinum in them. With the price of metals increasing, I can see these kinds of thefts becoming more frequent.

Are the slider plates actually touching the frame and welded to it, or are the welds between the frame and the sliders, which is what it looks like in your pics?

Hey: Tundra newbie here. I’ve installed the Boost Auto tow mirrors too, and am now also trying to figure out how to tap into the cargo light circuit. Just wondering whether you finally figured out which wire to tap?

Also, while I was poking around under the dash today, I think I shorted something because my sound system, charging ports, and display all went offline. I checked the “Radio” fuse under the dash, and it’s fine. So I looked at the engine compartment fuse box and couldn’t positively identify anything that relates to the sound/info system. There’s a big 30A item (fusible link?) that says “AMP” but I’m not about to do anymore guesswork. If you can point me in the right direction to troubleshoot that too, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.

The Rail supports are welded to the frame.

Not yet. I was looking over the wiring diagrams but ran out of time. I’ll spend some time looking again later this weekend.

I am afraid I can’t help with the other issue. The electrical items are definitely not my strength. Hopefully someone else here can help.

    Also, welcome to the forum!

Dan - The cargo lamp +12V on your truck is going to be pin 28 coming out of connector 3K from the main fuse/relay/ECU panel in the driver's side dash (it is pink on 2020-2021, and Lavender w/ Red Stripe on 2018-2019). Remember, the terminals are numbered based on looking at the PIN end of the connector, not the wiring end.

You could follow that wire out along the wire gutter once you find it.

    Dave,
There's a lot of different fuses feeding those various circuits, from ECU-ACC fuses that control relays to send/kill power to various things, to dedicated fuses (such as for the charging outlets), to an additional USB-specific fuse, to any number of other ECU fuses. There isn't a single dedicated fuse feeding anything in these trucks any more.

I'd recommend hitting the wiring diagram collection thread and download all of the different PDFs that pertain to the 2021 truck. Start by reading the intro/how to stuff to understand how to read those diagrams, then start digging through the diagrams for each of the affected components and see which ones might be the affected fuse.

In a quick look, you might want to confirm the 5A ECU-ACC fuse didn't get popped. It's in the cabin fuse box. Also check out the ECU-DCC No. 2 fuse (another 5A) in the same box.
The 30A AMP fuse only pertains to trucks with a separate amplifier - not sure what radio you have in the truck. But that is one case where the fuse is specific to a single item (though that amplifier also has power from the 5A ECU-ACC fuse).

Thanks. Are you still in Waxahachie? I’m about 2/3 of a mile from HEB in some apartments behind Hobby Lobby and Tractor Supply. We’re here temporarily til our house gets finished.

Thanks again Casey. I already know it’s not the ECU-ACC fuse ‘cause that’s the one my folding mirrors are tapped into and they’re working fine. I’ll definitely DL your wiring diagrams and have a look. It’s been a while since I’ve worked with electrical HW though, so I’m probably going to have to relearn reading those things.

Double check you didn’t knock a ground loose or forget to hook it back up. Unless you shorted something, a bad ground is a likely source of the problem.

knock on wood, but in all the stuff I’ve done to this truck and all the similar stuff I did to my 2008, I’ve NEVER popped a fuse.

@RainMan_PNW - the great electrical wizard of Tundras - My 2020 Platinum has memory power folding mirrors. Currently, when I park I hit the button to fold my mirrors, turn off the ignition, then I hit the fold button again. Because the power is off the mirrors do not unfold but upon startup it "remembers" that I told it to unfold the mirrors and it does so automatically. How does it "remember" to unfold? On the four way mirror adjustment panel/switch my GS350 has an automatic button that does the auto-folding so I assume there is something in the door's ECU. Any reason that a Lexus ECU could not be substituted and make this work on a Tundra OR does it do other things (I call it things because I know nothing about ECUs) which would conflict?

I’m far from a wizard. Just a hack that’s not afraid to short a few things in the interest of convenience.

On the tundra memory mirror switch, does the fold button remain in a specific position? I.e. does it stay pressed in when folded and stay out when extended? Sort of like the clicker on a ball point pen? If so, then I think the same principal behind the Gen2 mod would work, but would require a separate relay in each door.

As for swapping Lexus ECUs - that’s a gamble. I would have to find and compare complete wiring diagrams of ALL the functions each ECU handles (tundra vs gs350) as well as pinouts and even connector details. The internal wiring of the ECUs isn’t published, so figuring out the full function inside is a combination of logic testing and best guess.

The auto button in the GS is sending a signal to the ECUs to perform the fold on power off as well as unfold on power on - i would also assume there’s a timer in there so the mirrors aren’t unfolding as soon as power starts. The logic is fairly simple but the details on how the ECU actually does it I’m not sure on. I’m not an electrical engineer. :D

on the method i just did, you don’t have an “override” so the auto fold is always there. and the mirrors start to unfold immediately when the ignition starts - so they open a second until the starter engages, then stop until the engine starts and the system returns power to the rest of the truck.
If i sat and thought through the logic a little more, I’m pretty sure I could come up with an override manual/auto selector - probably using a SPDT switch of some kind.
