My neighbor had his stolen last night off his Mitsubishi Hylander . It’s stupid there is a market for these still so Scumbags can steel your shit. He told me that Tundras and Hybrid cars are targeted even more? Cost $2500 to replace. He pays his 500 deductible and his insurance goes up. Peace. D

I was just going to start a thread for this. My 2000 ford excursion had one stolen a few months ago. I am thinking of welding a rebar cage around it or welding it to the frame.

For the tundra, does anyone know if there is a skid plate that is wide enough to cover the cats or if the rci one could have leafs welded to the sides of it to cover the cats?

I know there is one. Came up in a thread a month or so ago. Happening here in CO too. I looked it up but never followed through.

ETA Desert Eagle was the brand.

Do the skid plates for the cats come with a special security bolt?

AAAAAAnd here we go again... LOL.... Prius are the main ones targeted usually... Toyotas are the ones that fare the most cash, from what I heard from some people who know some people, who robbed some people.... Prius IS DEALER ONLY OPTIONS... and its not just the cat they sell, you need the WHOLE system... This is how Prius get totaled out more than others... and this info comes from a muffler shop... Tundras can be replaced by aftermarket ones, depending on state.... I'm thankfully registered in a no inspection area....

Not sure. The guy will call me back tomorrow. It comes with hardware but didnt specify. Even if its standard hardware, they usually want to do a quick hit with a saw. They dont bring sockets and spend 10 minutes unscrewing a 4 foot by 4 foot plate in someone's driveway. Plus, it doubles as a skid plate anyway. Was gonna drop 3 bills for an RCI one, may as well do double that for double the skid plate and added security.

Fair enough but money is money, aftermarket or not. The cat from my 20 year old excursion cost 900 all together. That was for 1 cat.

yeah, I know.... I'm not downplaying the problem.... it is shitty nonetheless... last I heard from the muffler shop was that the prices on cats were going to start inflating due to some new regulation on material, and this was a year ago...

Check the build link in my signature.
Not to diminish the value of this thread, but two others in the first page of the search results for "Catalytic"

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/catalytic-converter-skid-plates-theft-deterent.9688/
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/catalytic-converts-stolen.79978/

Both have lots of good info, including pictures and details on the Desert Eagle skids, the fact they don't fully cover the rear cats (but likely enough to discourage a cut-and-grab), details on how to modify the RCI skid plate to work with them, etc...

Edit - one more here on page 2 of the search results:

Not really on the Tundras and hybrids..Criminals steal anything convenient. I was taking reports for stolen cats 10 years ago when I was working. The crims wiped out a whole Gmc dealer for cats on a holiday weekend..

Resized_20210125_163328.jpg IMG_3923.jpg The Desert Eagle skid plate wouldn't work with my Pro Comp lift kit due to the Trac Bars in the way. But if in Houston they have them at Don Mcgill Toyota for $279 in Parts Department.

I currently have the Pro Comp 6" lift on my 2018. So you are saying that the Desert Eagle plate is not compatible? Is there no way to fab it to make it work?

Not without major modifications, those bars would have to go right through that plate. This is what would need to be cut out of the 10 gage steel.
