Fumoto Valve Installation

Can one be fitted the the trans pan? With my job switch, I lost my shop access so I’m back to doing oil changes on the street. If I could do it without making a mess, that would be ideal.

No. I've even emailed fumoto, they said they don't keep trans specs, their smallest is 12mm, my trans is 10, uggh.

 

This might be a better option for the transmission since they're a little lower profile.

I don't mind crawling under the truck, pulling the engine shield thingie off and turning the drain bolt. It gives me a chance to inspect the underside components for damage or wear that might go unnoticed otherwise.

 

I just ordered one for the first oil change on my 2020 which I will do may self. No thanks 2 free Toyota services I want all the fasteners to be put back for the skid plate and the drain plug not put on with an impact.
I've have one my my Honda Fit for years and love how easy and mess free it is to change the oil. It does take a little longer but then you don't have to collect the wench, rags, cardboard, etc. Any 3/8 hose will work for a directed flow and you can change the oil as hot as you want.

 

Dude, must be an amazing feeling having a brand new truck, with brand new shiny bolts! Keep her good n clean so 20 years from now on this forum the next owner is like "damn this guy took care of this thing!"

 

That's how I felt about my Shiny new 2017 Subaru Forester, ordered special from Japan so I could get the premium (sunroof, power seats, etc) with a 6 speed manual. When the "free" services were done I ordered a fumoto valve and discovered that the little access panel (built into the skid plate) for the drain plug was only held on with one screw and I had to use a 2ft breaker and impact socket to get the drain bolt off. No more dealer oil changes for me. Then Atlanta traffic totaled it, now I have the Tundra and love it however I do miss having a manual.

 

Yea that sounds like a great car. By no means am I a highly knowledgeable car/mechanics guy, but I am just not a fan of those boxer engines at all

 

I had an old 2004-ish Subaru forester with the 5 speed manual and that car was an absolute blast to drive.

 

Just to clarify, for my tundra I ordered the Fumoto f103sx which is the low profile side discharge. Not because the tundra needs the clearance just because it was the one that would get to me before the start of my Christmas break.
I like the idea of the check ball type drains (stahlbus and others) because there is a screw on cover but I just don't want to have to keep track of the drain adapter to change the oil.
The sx type fumoto might work as a transmission drain if you new what size the plug was, I think the plug part number is 9034110021 but I didn't find a thread size anywhere.

 

Thanks for posting this. I'm a veteran and I've been trying to support veteran owned companies... especially during most recent times when everything has turned super political! Yes, you will pay a little more for things made in the U.S., versus anywhere else (china), but I think the money should be in our hands anyways..... not theirs. I digress before I really turn this political and get put in time out. Last thing and then I'll shut up, I remind my kids daily that it's OK to love your country.... the schools and news like to say otherwise.

 

The Only thing I wonder about is, does it matter we're removing the magnetic plug that catches tiny pieces of metal?

Once these are in, no more strong magnet, hmmm.....Thoughts?

 

The oil filter should take care of any particles metal or otherwise. If you still want a magnet, put an appropriately sized strong magnet through the drain hole and into the pan before installing the valve. Sitting inside the pan and not being removed will be fine.

 

Agreed Trogdog, the high quality filters we use should trap that. I like the idea of slipping in a magnet, best of both worlds. Thanks.

My wife and I have installed Fumoto valves on all (3) of our vehicles. I personally prefer the ones without the extended nipples as I feel they can more easily make contact with debris and get caught up on something resulting in a failure causing the engine to potentially run dry if not paying attention to the pressure gauge etc. Granted it is approximately one additional inch or less depending on the version but the thought already of having something larger than the factory drain plug protruding from the oil panel ever so slightly concerns me. However, in our case, the risk is seemingly worth the reward. It is never much trouble to remove the drain plug but now this saves us from needing to regularly replace the washers which I am a fan. I should mention I am currently not running the engine under cover assembly as I still need to modify it by cutting approximately 1'' off the front corners to fit in between the 2-Inch Front Receiver Hitch we installed.

I was thinking with these Fumoto valves installed there may be the chance of a couple of millimeters of residual oil remaining in the bottom of the pan due to the design but with the front of the vehicle raised it should be negligible if any. I wonder if anyone removed one later after installing and noticed how much residual oil there may be...

 

How would you clean it?

 

Let the tranny pump it out for you right into a milk jug.

You wouldn't, just leave it. Los of transmission pans have a magnet inside that you can't clean without dropping the pan.
I don't bother with a magnet in engines that have a real oil filer. Magnets are much more useful in engines that don't have filters, small lawn movers, generators, etc. and other oil bath devices that don't have filters, transmissions (it's a screen not a filter), transfer case, etc.

 

Has anyone had an issue with fitment? I bought the

F133N model for my 06 DC but when a friend was trying to install, it would not thread. He said it felt like ti was cross threading. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

 

How do the threads on the old plug look? Get a rethread tap and run it through the oil pan threads.

 

No. Don't try to force it or you'll ruin the threads on your oil pan which would greatly suck. The one that I purchased back in 2019 is the

F133N model as would fit.

 

The F103 is still available, the N designates Nipple.
