I'm going to black-out my chrome badging (sides and tailgate). It's about the last of the chrome tidbits left on this thing. The door trim will be pretty easy. I can black out the badging while in place but it'll be a lot of work. I'd rather pop them off and prep them in the blast cabinet (hand protector unit box), then reattach. Did the yota gods make these accessible and removable or am I just better off hand-prepping them in place?

The badges will pop off from glue, and maybe even break upon removal. Getting glue residue off will be the bigger issue. It all depends on how stubborn they want to be.

Hair dryer for a few minutes to soften le glue then fishing line to slice behind the emblem and separate the glue. Then some Goo Gone or similar to cleanup ye olden glue residue.

Dang... then no blast cabinet for prep. I'm gonna have to think about it. I'd be pist if I broke one or more of them. I have heat guns, that's not a problem. They've gotta be somewhat brittle after 20yrs. I'm sure a replacement set of badges isn't a cost effective option. Leaning toward prep-in-place now. Super tedious.

I successfully removed my badges off my tailgate with some gift cards. They are thin, yet stiff enough (she said) to push through the gooey adhesive that holds them and don’t scratch the paint. I cleaned and goo gone’d the crap out of the areas getting off the adhesive yet was unsuccessful in removing the ‘footprint’ which didn’t matter as I was painting the tailgate anyways so I sanded that down.

Since you’ll be reinstalling I think you’ll be ok with reinstall back over the footprint. Its easy to remove them with the heat. Just takes time.

Alright, I won't be a puss. I'll try getting them off. Heat gun, fishing line, playing cards, goo be gone. Check.
Might have time to fiddle with it this week. Thank you gentlemen, glad I asked about this.

What, nobody suggested a credit card?? Why ruin a good deck of playing cards? Oh, I see PHM did...
If you take you time it's not as hard as you might worry. Just clean 'em good and light scuff, paint and don't forget 'emblem adhesive' and use strategically and sparingly.

I haven't blacked out mine yet, but my plan is to remove the LIMITED badge only and do the rest in place.

    Good luck! Slow and easy...
Edit: P.S. Warm plastic isn't brittle, but don't overheat 'em.

Yeah the Gift Cards are thinner than a CC about the same thinness as a Playing Card. Those high quality Vinyl Playing Cards would work well.

I used FuzeIt Adhesive to set my emblems back in place. Needed to temporarily tape them for about 30 minutes until the Mojo set.

I used an old CD to shave off the badges, and then various non-abrasive cleaners to remove the glue left behind.

Whatever you do, make sure you use a very soft microfiber rag when you goo gone the remaining adhesive, anything else scratches the paint a bit. Sure it can usually be buffed/waxed back to normal but why even go through the pain?

I pulled some side panels off my Dads truck . . . I used 3M aerosol spray adhesive remover afterwards to get rid of the leftover adhesive . . . that stuff worked INSANE . . . safe on the paint too. Highly recommended.

Anyone with a Phantom Gray 1st Gen with blacked out emblems have a pic to share?
    I’m considering doing the same...

I'd leave them on if I had a 2000 truck. Your paint will probably be faded and you will see the same decals, just in bright paint.

Or, you could just paint them and put them back on that brighter paint. Good reading on my part. When I did this, I used a low texture bedliner with good results.

Ok, you guys have me 'sold' on the eraser wheel. I own an orbital buffer and figured that would be fine but this is a good addition to my tool selection, for a variety of things.
They kinda want a small fortune for the 3M brand so I cheaped-out and ordered this one https://www.amazon.com/ABN-Rubber-Eraser-Adapter-1-Pack/dp/B018WG2XYE/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=3m+03612&qid=1607351345&sr=8-4
It's about 1/3 the price and has great reviews. Unfortunately for me... I picked up the Kung Flu on Dec 3rd so have suspended all Jeep and Yota work until this crud is gone from my system. My symptoms weren't too bad and I'm at the tail end of it now. Mild flu symptoms for two days, no cough, O2 levels remain in the mid-90s, but no taste or smell... that's only the symptom I still have and it's driving me nutz, really annoying not to have taste or smell. Appetite is strong but zero taste or smell. So strange. I expect to be back in action soon.:fingerscrossed:
