We debated on blackout emblems, debadging, leaving plasti-chrome or plastidip black and have decided on Debadging.

    Tools I plan on using:
    • Blow dryer on low
    • Fishing line
    • AutoMotive GooGone
    • Soft Rag/T-Shirt
    • Thumb
My wife game me the go ahead to start with the SR5 which see says is ugly. If successful, I'm sure I'll get the A-Okay to do the Tundra, iForce and 4x4.

I know to heat up minimal, keep fishing line against badge backing away from paint, GooGone for residue and then some soap and water to remove the GooGone film. I won't apply too much pressure at any point and will use swirl motions instead of scrubbing back and forth. I have removed dealer badges and stickers on card without issue, bit I'm far from a car/truck expert.

I plan on going slow, not using any power tools or wheels. It's only 2 weeks old so I'm hoping I don't have to wax the area I get them off sooner rather than later.

    Any other tips or suggestions?

2019 Cavalry Blue, if it matters. We photoshopped a few pics and like the clean look

You can also use WD40 instead of goo gone. I've used it several times with good success in removing the left behind adhesive. I've never used the blow dryer, but in AZ it's usually hot enough.

Sounds like you have the right approach. Post up some pics when done!

I did mine in the afternoon in mid July after letting it bake in the sun all day.

Waxed dental floss, only a few passes per piece but zero marks.

Some goo gone and a small hit with a rubber wheel all good.

I have a Cavalry Blue as well. I didn't need a heat gun but I live in Texas and did it on a hot day. If you use a heat gun I'd just keep it moving.
    • Heat up the badge
    • Get your string moving under the badge in a sawing motion (back and forth). I used some work gloves because my hands started to hurt a bit toward the end from the string but of course that's optional.
    • The gray sticky stuff I just used my thumb and some patience to rub off. Be careful as you might get a blister
    • Once it was done I just sprayed it down with some car wax product I had laying around and you can't even tell they were on there to begin with
It's not difficult. Just take your time and go slow and you'll be done in no time. I think my whole truck took like 30 or 40 min to complete.

    Good Luck!

    Awesome guys, thanks so much.

I'll see if I can do it without heating up at all, as I would prefer to not even use a heat source.

Pics will follow when I get to it. Might not be for a few days but I'll be sure to post up my progress and/or any struggles....which I'm hoping I don't have.

Next pics should have my side step bars on too. They finally came in today.

I didn't use a dryer. I did use a little too much elbow grease getting the adhesive off. Nothing that my da couldn't fix. I tried both goo gone and wd - about the same.

I did mine on a hot summers days. Left the truck baking in the sun and then came in with a bondo spreader (those soft rubbery ones). Badges came off really easily and since I used the bondo spreader it picked up most of the glue. I then wiped off any remaining residue with goof off and an old t shirt.

All these directions are spot on...it took a while to clean up the badge and disassemble for painting. The guy I used painted these using cerakote and I only put one back on the tailgate.

I did mine a few weeks back and like others mentioned if it's hot outside no additional heat is needed. Used fishing line and Goo Gone on the first couple emblems and decided to purchase the 3M eraser wheel. It was worth the $30 bucks IMO. It removed the adhesive completely and quickly, applied some wax really quick and done.

You're plan sounds good. One detail, I started with 20# test. It broke too much so I went to 80. Gloves were mentioned and are a good idea. I have a scar from an actual fishing incident to prove it. I also used 91% isopropyl alcohol since I had it and didn't have to buy something else, worked fine. Do it!

Got the SR5 badges off today. Small heat up with hair dryer as it's cold here, came off with minimal residue left.

Some GooGone, some polish, looks good.

There is some an ever so slight visual ghosring if you look at it from an upward angle and the light hits it in a certain direction. Nothing I am worries about as I assume it will go away on its own.

Unless anyone has any tips to get the last bit of ghosting off (more Goo, more polish or something else), I'm calling it a success.

Took another look at one side where I gave an extra polish when we were done and it's completely gone

I'll touch up the other side, present it to my wife (and older son) and hopefully get the green light to move forward with the other badges.

    Much cleaner look.

*** 4x4 is coming off next  ***

I used a lot of isopropyl alcohol for getting my badges off. Wanted to replace the chrome badges with black ones.

Once we get a new second vehicle, probably a Rav4 in a couple years, the flood gates will open
