Anyone could advise what does the higher-than-normal number on copper mean?

I think someone mentioned in this thread to expect to see a higher number on the copper for the first drain, not sure why that is though.

Copper usually comes from the new cooler and will diminish over time.

I have to look, was the sample pre or post cooler install?

Thought this sample was pre-cooler so the copper must be coming from something else in the system.

OP, now, do the same mileage and conditions and send in another sample. That will truly give you an idea of the effectiveness of the cooler. I have a feeling it will be marginal at best.

In general, the elemental analysis tells you little about the fluid and more about the condition of engine/transmission. When you see sightly elevated wear metals, especially during the first drain interval, it means NOTHING. These are wear-in metals. If coppper was 500ppm...ok there's a problem but 82 vs 68 is not really significant.

The properties section tells you about the condition of the fluid and by all properties measured it was doing fine.

The towing history of this transmission greatly exceeds what many will do with their Tundra and apparently the transmission and fluid are doing fine. Could it be the Toyota engineers are not incompetent, they really did look at this issue before making changes to the cooler and we all suck at armchair engineering and product development?

So how does that analysis factor in the seals, O-rings, solenoids, wiring, clutch material, adhesive, thermal expansion/contraction, etc... ???

These are all long term potential heat related issues that will likely skate right through the warranty period fine... but still have a very high probability of causing problems in the future.

This is a perfect example of the saying: "Ignorance is bliss". (not directed at you)
Most people will sell or trade before its an issue and will never know or care.

Anyone that has spent any amount of time inside a transmission (me) knows that the aux cooler is a massive benefit and running a trans at 250+ degrees is insane.

We can guess all we want about the long-term consequences but the fact is none of us has access to any of the data they gathered during testing. What little data we do now have suggests heavy toeing is not having a detrimental effect on the transmission or the transmission fluid. Mike Swears has responded that they feel the temps seen during testing were fine - believe him or don't believe him - add a cooler or don't add a cooler based on how you use your truck - that's up to you - my only point is based on what little evidence we have available to us it seems like this is not a problem for most owners. The responses to this have ranged from failure is eminent for the majority of owners to nothing to worry about. Based on what we know as of right now I think most owners have nothing to worry about if you do light to moderate toeing occasionally.

If I toed 5000+ pounds routinely, I might consider adding a cooler. Since I don't toe and my truck is a daily driver, I'm not worried. We are into 2021 models and there have to be a significant number of 2019s with decent mileage - I'm unaware of a significant number of failures.

I'm just trying to add some perspective to the idea that everyone should run out and add a cooler immediately. While I do think it makes sense for some, each of us is going to have to evaluate how we use our truck and make a decision.

I would venture saying this IF the analysis was made at Toyota's sugested service mileage in the ownner's manual, which I read is at:
    • Replace transmission oil every 60,000 miles if towing, 90,000 miles if not (Don't quote me on this one though, I'm not sure).
Meanwhile, because this results are on a 18K miles fluid, definitive conclusions are still up in the air, at least to me.

I agree with all you said, but also believe that it's too soon to see 19s failures.
Also, as far as I know the daily driver use you give to your Tundra doesn't excempt her of ATF heating issues if a lot of stop and go traffic is involved, though they wouldn't be as prominent as in a towing rig. I might be wrong too. Cheers.
