This is something I will be quoting messages in from other threads so I have easy access to them, and do not clog up the main threads from which they were taken from.

I think I have a problem with posting A LOT. This should help clear that up, and also now that I remembered the search bar...

    Ideas... ideas...

    Future reference for me...

Yeah. In retrospect, instead of spraying the FF every year I’d just douse the frame and under bed rail a couple times with some PB Blast penetrant. Let it soak into the crevices. Use a straw to shoot up into the frame overlaps and factory holes. Give it a few days to soak and then rub every square inch with Moly-b grease and sponge. Use a plunger for the boxed frame up front.

Was reading your other comment in the other section. Work those bell cranks and clean them up. Don’t replace your cable as it seems to be OEM stainless.

Its a lot of work to get the under chassis in shape. You’ll end up seeing a lot of things that need doing under there. Its worth it though. I wouldn’t worry about Ospho/painting anything first before doing the grease rub.

Anything not getting grease, you can Ospho and rattle can. The POR looks like a good product, but is messy. The Ospho goes on like water, goes real far, and gets into areas like penetrant. Its fairly inexpensive too. Wear protective clothing and gloves as its a mild irritant.

A good rattle can spray will bond nicely post Ospho surface prep. Just read their directions and follow.

Thank you much for your revised retrospect, and your wisdom.

Regarding bell cranks. Considering replacing with new since it is such a crucial part.

Not yet. Still waiting on Alcan.

I'm sure they are swamped with the stimuli, and most of the populace being home. I know when I called and spoke to Bob?, or Bill? that they said they were super busy.

They billed me the same day as call. April 23rd.

I think they said 4-6 weeks.

They have not billed me for shipping or emailed me their "Measure your U-bolts so we know what you have" spreadsheet yet.

    Edit:
Did an inbox search for Alcan, Bill, Bob, and the email address used for initial correspondence.

    Nothing as of yet.

Idea! I'm tired so it might be stupid. Y'all can let me know in the morning

1/2 or 3/4 inch sheet of ply wood.

Notch out "tire holes" to go around the front, and rear tires. (Along the edge of the plywood, or drive over. Not sure yet.)

Figure out where my "jacking points" are relative to the plywood/frame.

Position jack, and lift the truck up slightly.

Crib up a "border" around the jack with 1X1 boards.

No more gravel woes with the jack, or my back.

PLUS, I will never have to position the jack ever again. Simply put in the "jig" and go to town.

PLUS PLUS, I can also crib up a spot for Jack stands so I can place those, and go too!

It really sucks trying to move a jack/jack-stand support just a teeny, weeny, tiny bit for proper positioning on gravel.

    Man, fuck gravel.

    What do you fellas think?

Regarding bell crank kit when it arrives. What would be the harm in giving them a rattle can treatment so they have some kind of protective film outside of the boot?

I don't see why it would hurt, but I also do not know how close the tolerances are on all the mating/pin surfaces.

paint will wear off. better off lubricating it really well and the exposed part fluid film or the such. and stay ontop of keeping the coating on

Grease them good and send them.

Good idea on the plywood platform. I’d add some silver bubble wrap sheets on top of ply for better Break Dance Technique. It adds some instant reflective warmth in the winter, too.

I wonder why they can’t figure the measurements out on their own?

Per their email via copy/paste method

"There was a note on your paperwork telling me to check with you to see if you want u-bolts. If you would like for us to bend them for you, I need to get measurements from you. (Unfortunately, there is no book or manual that has u-bolt information for different makes and models.)"

I'm guessing that if they do a wide range of vehicles instead of a few select models that it would be easier for them to just have the customer measure instead of Googling and potentially getting the wrong info? Just a guess.

I read the PSA, I appreciate whoever was the OP. I just used 6X6 wooden ramps we have to lift the rear. Measured as best I could, and conferred with Alcan.

Their email said that the leaf springs should be ready to ship in a few days. Sweet-ness.
