    I recently traded my 18 1794 for a 19 King Ranch F250 6.7 Diesel.
No real dislikes with the Tundra, just came across a deal on the F250 and thought what the hell. I can always go back. (See title)
We go back and forth on this site about reliability etc.
While it is not comparing apples to apples, it is comparing brand vs brand.
That being said, here is what has happened in the first 4500 miles owning the Ford vs the time I owned the Tundra and traded in around 28,000 miles.

    Tundra (new until trade in)
    1. Recall on the TSS sensor. No big deal. Took in at time of oil change (warranty) and they said they performed the recall. Called a few days later and said they didn't perform the recall service and wanted me to bring back in. Ok, not real big deal. Did so.

    2. Random clicking noise behind AC unit. Never did find or figure out. Turned the radio up louder, problem solved.

    3. Added the Tesla style radio--enjoyed it except for mic issues on calls. Toss up here. Better radio vs hassle of the mic/phone. This was a daily love/hate. This is something I did to the truck, so not fault of Toyota. Just mentioned in case someone was looking at those radios.

    F250 (new to present date)

    1. Windshield has a smudge looking mark in it that will not come out. Waiting on first oil change that is coming later this week or first of next to point out to Ford and see what the say.

    2. Recall on tailgate. Water leaking in and triggering release of lock. From what I read, they are fixing it with a piece of duct tape on the wire.

    3. Recall on the running lights/head lights. Too bright and are adjusting the level. See how that goes for them. I kind of like it the way they are now.

    ______________________________________________________________________
Will update on how it goes with the Ford.

Recalls are a fact of life these days. Some brands have more than others. My issue with my last Ford was the recalls didn’t always fix the issue, and more recalls followed. The frozen door lock issue was my specific gripe. Not only were there two additional recalls on the repair, Ford built the same issue into the SD when they went to the aluminum body. My dealership also hated doing the recall and tried to get out of it. Clowns.

If your recalls are fixed correctly the first time, I don’t see any issues so far. Enjoy the truck!

I love a diesel. No way am I buying a new one. All the complicated and unreliable emissions systems have ruined it for me.

If starts acting up, I have plans to delete the def/egr system. Will see how it goes.

my roommate has a 3 year old f150. It randomly wont start and took it in 3 times now and they cant figure out why. They keep replacing a part (last one was ignition switch) and tell him to bring it back when it wont start...

twice now the tow truck has showed up except it started :rofl::rofl:

Your new truck should be a reliable machine. All my friends have 6.7L powerstroke diesels with little issues. Only one has had issues, and he was daily driving his truck short distances.

Tundras can light up rather nicely too. This one burst in flames after accident. This is in Colorado Springs, south bound I-25.

Good luck getting any kind of DPF/DEF delete tuning. The EPA has been cracking down on companies that provide this kind of service. Your only choice might be to get it from Canada...Maybe.

Sinister Diesel. How they get away with it is label everything for "offroad use only" and let you make the call.

Does it have the white running lights on the cab? Those are annoying to me. I was not sure if people are changing the lenses or they come that way. I came up behind a guy in a Chevy that had white LEDs in the glass of his side view mirrors. Very annoying and also illegal in Tx.

No cab running lights. Hate them. Post a pic in a little while. Tied up working to pay for the thing.

Honestly, I have been a Ford basher based off of 4 family members, 6 co-workers, and a handful of F-150's in our fleet at work. All of the trucks have had problems and been problematic at some point in time. Can not sit here and say that one of those trucks have hit 100k miles with relatively no problems. 5.0's are included and have been problematic.

With that being said, our fleet of newer Fords at work with the 6.7 diesel has been pretty solid. Now to be fair, they are only 1 to 2 years old, but we have had zero issues. Only one truck had a DEF/DPF issue but was fixed by the dealer.

It actually seems like the newer 6.7 is a step up and maybe the best since the old 7.3 days.

The 6.7 was a pretty good motor on my 07-08 350 fords. One was a king ranch also and it was a beautiful truck. It was still beautiful when I had to sell her. Loved that f'ing truck.
I can only imagine the 19 is pratty amazing inside.

6.7 treated me well on two 350s.

The 6.0, I'd go to jail if I had to look at another one cause it owes me a shit ton of money and that 6.0 is gonna have to settle up.... Or else.

You had the 6.4L. The 6.7L was introduced in 2011.

Oh dang, I for some reason had 6.7 stuck in my head.

Well, I guess I must have heard or read good things about the 6.7 then.

Random tip on the smudge. 0000 steel wool is a little trick to getting anything off of glass.

Dropped it off yesterday for the 2 recalls (daytime running lights and random tailgate opening). Pointed out the windshield. Will see if they do anything about it. Will give the steel wool 0000 a try. Tried rubbing compound with no luck. Thanks for the tip.

I traded in my 2017 F-250 Lariat w/6.7l Diesel engine. That truck was incredible. Not a single problem with it. I stepped up from an f-150 since we tow a camper here in Colorado, and the 3/4 ton with all the towing packages was night and day different than the half ton.

It was a pain to drive daily; It drives a LOT bigger than the tundra. All that said, I only traded it because I owned it outright, and Ford dealerships have me $50k for it. Since we’re selling our camper this spring and starting a custom home build, I wanted to free up some $$. So I bought the used 2017 tundra.

no regrets on the tundra. The fuel mileage is worse than the diesel by about 2-4 mpg. The radio in the toyota is garbage compared to the ford, so it’s getting ripped out this weekend.

Picked the truck back up yesterday. All recalls were fixed (they say). Now the argument will begin over the windshield. I did not have time to mess with them yesterday. I tried the 0000 steel wool, no luck on removing the smudge/line. They tried whatever and could not get it out. In dealership fashion, tried to blame me for tinting the front windshield (no tint of any kind on it). Then when that failed, they tried the route of wanting to know if I bought it used from them.
    The fight begins.

I don't know if this is a Toyota Vs Ford thread, But I have been through it. Being a Toyota guy since 1984, owned 3 till 2012. Bought a Ford Lariat, S-crew, F150. Beautiful truck... but.... sunroof tubes were kinked, water pump at 42k miles, changed the air filter to an Airaide oil-less filter, washable. Everytime I cleaned that filter, the truck would throw codes and freak out. (painful) I belong to the F150 forum, not too much help there.
Tailgate tension rod broke 3 times, till I replaced it with a 3/4 ton rod. the rear doors electrical stopped working on a hunting trip to NY, great engineering Ford.... the harness broke on both doors. When doing differential fluid at 70K miles (6 years) I noticed rust on the rocker panels and I lost it. Things started to rattle... age was showing. I traded it for the 2018 Limited I have now, won't buy anything from the "top" 3. I work on vehicles for fun and to help family and friends, but work on those trucks the most.
One thing for the Ford, it had "4 wheel Automatic" which seemed like all wheel drive, I LOVED it!!! 17 miles per gallon in that mode. Also 110V plug in the interior, awesome.... and comfy fat american seats... wow!!!

Never owned an F150, but I liked my 2001 Ranger I bought brand new, however the 3.0 got 15 mpg, the front rotors need servicing every 20k miles, the brake lights needed to be checked and replaced often, and there was always metal flakes in the transmission fluid(I flushed every 30k). Even the battery would fail every 40k miles. Sold it at 120k miles.
My 2011 Tacoma...never replaced the rotors, any brake lights, and I get 25 to 30 mpg. 120k and I have NEVER even had a code thrown. I Replaced the battery at 7 years; front pads, same. That's it. The 2.7 with the 5 speed is a seemingly Bulletproof drivetrain.
In my opinion, The Fords seemed designed to keep the repair shop in business for endless minor issues. The Toyota seemed designed to keep ME in business, and on the road.

I test drove a 17 F150 XLT right before I went to test drive the 16 SR5 I ended up buying. The F150 only had 46k miles and after going wot, within a block of the dealership had a check engine light on. That was disappointing to say the least. Still, F150 is head and shoulders above the Ram. I worked as a service advisor at a Dodge dealer here and from that experience alone I will never even consider purchasing a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram vehicle. The shear volume of issues that came through the door and the nature of the problems was terrifying. Also, learned that even the die-hard dodge fans hate Chrysler corporation and yet they inexplicably continue to purchase them.
