Truck caught fire

    Hello everyone,
    It's been 10 months since my 08 Tundra caught fire.
    Since then I've replaced all wiring that was damaged.
    Started her up two days ago and the VSC light is on and the hi/lo light flashes.
    It's stuck in 4 hi (IT was in 4hi when caught fire). Wondering if actuator or something is frozen up because it sat so long?
    Anyway it's been quite the battle and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

    I was curious because of course extreme temperatures do all sorts of strange things to fluids. Without knowing details of your fire it’s hard to give good advise. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no expert, but if the wiring work you completed did not include the actuator itself, that’s where I’d focus my effort. Did you watch the YouTube videos troubleshooting the actuator?

    But to directly answer your question, I personally would change the transfer case fluid. If it was dry or in bad shape before the issue, then sat for 10 months, who knows what’s going on inside.

    As you no doubt know Aaron, smoke damage can cause a lot of unseen issues. You just might have a can of worms now and maybe you should cut your losses. Caught on fire?? Where did the fire start???

    Stupid question. You know it won’t come out of 4hi if you aren’t moving right? Just making sure. Didn’t know if you were back to the point of the truck was driving or not.

    I appreciate everyone's response thank you. The truck started on fire due to a auxiliary light wire directly to the battery with no fuse. This was installed by the former owner and I didn't realize that this would be an issue. The wire that ran off the battery ran through the firewall to switch and to the light. I was working as an EMT assisting and gentlemen when I return to my truck I realized there was something on fire shut the vehicle off open the hood and I could see the wire all the insulation off the wire had been burned off. I replaced the two boxes or relay boxes one with lots of fuses and the other with 30 wires perhaps off of a another vehicle same year and model I wired those up and I believe I got everything but I'm unsure. I'm wondering is there a way to bypass the switch system I've heard rumors of a kit but not sure if anyone has had any experience with that. After hooking everything up I was able to drive the vehicle up and down the driveway and that's when I noticed it was still stuck in 4 high. Switched to 4lo or 4hi or neutral or two wheel drive and there is absolutely no reaction whatsoever no sounds no lights no nothing.

    Did you use water to extinguish it? Water can cause all sorts of gremlins now, and later.

    Extinguisher. Fortunately I snagged one off the ambulance and had it knocked down quickly.

    OP, sounds like MANY more hours with a test light and multimeter on this one. If I was in HS/College again I’d love a challenge like this.

    Do you by chance have a local Votech program at a high school that likes challenging problems like this to tinker on? As someone mentioned cutting losses, prolly not worth bringing this one into a shop if you can’t figure it out. I do admire the dedication, good luck with the project brother!
