My guess would be the 3rd brake light.

Yep, I'd guess 3rd brake light.

My Tacoma had that issue about a year ago... but was caused because the company who wrapped my roof did not replace the seal with a new one and it leaked like hell.

I think you have to go behind the headliner from the inside.

If it's like my 08 Tacoma, it is just a adhesive strip like double sided tape in addition to the screws.

After removing the screws, use a panel tool to remove. Put some blue painters tape on the paint where the panel tool goes to protect the paint.

This is only if it's the same at the Tacoma :anonymous:

Wouldn't hurt to check the rear window as well... I had to pop out mine 2 years ago because of a water leak.

Removing the headliner is pretty straight forward. You only need to drop the back half. Removing the entire thing isn't necessary. Watch out for the 2 nuts that secure the 3rd brake light, they're EASY to drop and hard to retrieve. A magnet on an extendable wand can be very handy.

Maybe try a hose? Not too much pressure, just wet it.

Looks like no bolts inside the headliner just the screws in the 3rd break light well I open it up looks good but the gasket looks kind old so I clean it and put sealant on it so now I'm waiting for that to dry up and see if it's gonna leak some where else

I've seen someone else have this issue and it ended up being the window leaking. But 3rd brake light seems like a good candidate too. Last time I replaced a light up there, the seal was almost to a dry cracked point.

Replace 3rd break light seal now it's still leaking seem like it might be the rear windows that's the next step

Ever seen a dead cat in a tree? Somehow others manage to replace their rear window, else you'd see a bunch of trucks running around with duct-tape on the rear.

Any good auto-body shop should be able to remove, reseal, and replace your rear window.

I have removed the tundra rear window, no issue at all. Remove the 4 nuts, cut from inside with extended razor knife, push gently with helper on the outside handling the window as it releases. Just painted a Tacoma (06), had to pull the rear window as well. Glass company said the same thing... "can't pull it... it will break...". They wanted 650.00. Myself and a friend had it out in 30 minutes... no issue at all.

Just do a good job of removing the old silicone, take care of any rust that may have started, use the proper glass adhesive, press it in, tighten the 4 nuts, add some tape to the exterior to secure it, less that an hour from start to finish...

Check out post #2563 for pictures and details on the fix the OP is looking for. Its pretty simple actually and costs nothing but about 40 minutes of your time. This link should take you right to what I did to solve the problem. It makes sense once you see the pics.

Basically, there are weep holes in the sliding window rubber gasket AND the track that said rubber gasket sits in that need to be flushed/cleaned out.

I'm just following up on this issue as I'm having the exact same problem on my 03 access cab (36k mi ;)). Does the sliding window's rubber track simply pull out?

I'm hoping this solves my leak so I don't have to replace the rear window... Planning on attempting it tomorrow

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
Have you replaced the light bulbs maybe to LEDs, did the seal get reinstalled right, possible cause of leaking water..
    Just a thought

Thanks for the reply. Swapped out the third breaklight assembly with a new unit. Comes with a double sided adhesive backing, pretty standard swap but the interior of the header behind the light was dry upon removal of the old unit. It's been raining pretty consistently, which is a rarity for CA, and should have still been damp when I made the change.
Didn't switch out to LEDs, which is on the radar as I no the current light set up likes to burn through the housing...

Yes it pulls out, but not all the way as the window is holding it down. Slide the window back and do one side. Slide it over and complete the other portion. No more leaks.

Mine was from the seal on the slider window. Cheap fix was to purchase some boat clear sealant and apply it along the edges of the trim both outside and inside the slider. Water was leaking to the bottom of slider rubber track. Nothing was obscuring the flow, just the seal was failing to keep out the excess which flowed to the corners and down to the carpet.

Oh ok, like the channel the rear glass slides in? It kinda just appears on the carpet I took the seats out and everything and nothing was wet but the carpet.

Go to Hand Models build thread and he shows this issue. That channel has drain holes in the bottom that get clogged. You May need to go through and clean it out. Should be an easy fix.

Well, I found the leaks one I believe is coming from a clogged channel, the other through a vent box behind the rear seat.

Is there a link to the cleaning instructions?
