Yes, move the collar adjuster on the coilover. It doesn't take long if the right tool is used:

Can I take out the preload using the spanner wrench with the coils still on or do I have to remove them and use compressor tool?

Icons look like you can just take out set screw and adjust while still installed

Man we were just talking about this a month ago. Ideally you would want to remove them. If you do it while they are on the vehicle you want to take as much load off of them as possible. Jack the truck up. Make sure everything is really clean so you don’t gall up the threads. Loosen the setscrew but only a little so you don’t jump the threads and mess them up. Did it come with a little spanner wrench? Depending on which one you have, some say they are pieces of shit. Some have resorted to donating a screwdriver and modifying it to use as a spanner wrench.

@ColoradoTJ do you have any suggestions? Since I haven’t personally done this I don’t really want to recommend anything. I thought I remember in that thread some of you talking about certain shocks you shouldn’t do this to. Maybe you recommended not doing it on the truck at all. What say you good Sir?

Thanks. My CV angles are off because there is like 4” of preload on these coils. Even after adding CB +3 shackles (and 4” block with kit) to the rear, the front is still pointed at the sky. I work in the oilfield and have a shop, and jacks at my disposal, but getting it taken somewhere to get adjusted will take more time than I have. If I can jack the truck up and do it on my own, I want to try that.

Check that thread out that I posted
It’s really not that hard to remove the coil overs. But you will need an alignment again. But in that thread they discuss adjusting them on the truck.

Thanks I’ll be giving that a shot. I have a Fox spanner wrench to use, shouldn’t be too hard. I appreciate it.

Any load placed on the coil will make adjustment more difficult. My Kings have a collar adjuster and it's still best to remove all load from the spring. The housing is aluminum and will gall easily.

Don’t have the time or the tools. I work about 150 miles from civilization in any direction. I am relieving the coil of the load, so hopefully it’s easier than trying to apply additional load. I’ll see how it goes, fingers crossed.

It would have been a lot easier to have the installer do it right the first time, even when I told them I wanted at least 1” of forward rake and they had it for FIVE days

Yeah! You’d think after what you told them that they would’ve readjusted it from the start. You never know height it’s going to sit at until it’s on the truck. The springs may settle a little but not that much.

The coil itself is a load if it's touching the collar. They took five days to install drop brackets?

The hardware kit for the coils wasn’t shipped so they had to wait for BdS to send it, then it overlapped a weekend where they don’t work...

Lowering is definitely easier than adding lift if the truck is not jacked. It really depends on the thread conditions.

E658E5FF-E9D0-47C4-AD6B-0333011F842F.jpg These cheap coil spring compressors will be able to take a lot of the pressure off. That way you dont need to pull out the coilover. I did it before, just spray some lub on the colars also

Be careful, that type of spring compressor is meant for a MacPherson strut, not a coilover.

Edit: Also, the presence of the reservoir hose will make adjustments while installed on the vehicle very difficult.
