I had trouble with this one. I stumbled upon this Tacoma guy on YouTube who had exactly what I was looking for.

This is keyless entry only. No alarm or remote start. These instructions show how to wire to something that already has power locks and an existing two pole switch for lock/unlock

    https://youtu.be/nEn-6M_SQqM

This Tacoma and 1st gen Tundras are wired similarly. And he was also installing the same kind of cheap Chinese keyless entry system I got. The kind you get on Amazon or eBay for $10 - $20.

I was wondering if anyone figured out how to wire a cheap Chinese keyless entry system into a 2006 Tundra Double Cab? The truck never came with the factory module and i just want the lock/unlock feature.

Why not just install the factory module? You can buy the parts used online.

Working to do this possibly this week. My buddy has a 2005 DC 2WD that doesn’t have the keyless entree ECU. He has parts trucks so I’m gonna pull the ECU (behind dash ash tray) and the wiring and try to pin it into the body ECU and Engine ECU as it is from factory. If you’re interested reach out to me.

Actually, if you don't mind, it'd be super awesome if you could snap some clear pics of the factory keyless ECU location in relative to the dash, and details on how you pull it off, part numbers for modules/harnesses. It's something we've been lacking for a hot minute.

I’ll do whatever I can to give the community photos and locations and all that. Recently discovered a couple different things about these tundras relating to Pin-out on a certain connector, Yaw sensor, Deceleration sensor location, wiring for that specific sensor and why some have it and some don’t (just my honest realizations.) mostly info I couldn’t find on any forums..so maybe valuable to someone in the future. But I will try and keep the info about Keyless ECU here on this thread. I’ll just have to do a massive write up of my findings..I don’t think there would be individual wiring harnesses available from the dealer though.

So, here will be a short write up of what I discovered today. If you have a double cab tundra (or I will assume any tundra that has the power lock/unlock by using your key in the driver side door) you’re able to hook up an OEM TOYOTA Keyless door control receiver.(RED BOX). No splicing wires, nothing too difficult.

If you have the keyless option this control receiver is located right behind the ash tray, if you’re removing from a parts truck, you may have to remove the center console and or plastics around to get to the one 10mm bolt that holds it in place to metal dash frame. Remove the ash tray and you’ll see some red behind the dashboard plastic. If you see that, then start ripping stuff apart to get to it.

Now that you’ve secured a red box door controller, note the FCC # on the box. Search up a key fob under that number so that you can easily pair them up. If you already have one, just try it.
Now you’re back at home after retrieving this beauty of a machine and excited to finally have keyless entry. Pull your sleeves up, and remove the ash tray, flash a light and low and behold you will notice some cable wire taped right there..
You can see/reach the harness connector that will allow your truck to communicate with this red box. It’s taped with either black electrical tape or white paper tape. Cut that tape and pull the wire through (after you’ve already removed the center arm test console).
In my case I had everything apart so it was easy. I don’t see an easier way unless you can remove the center trim piece and reach down there with small hands to hook up this receiver. It’s literally plug and play, thank you Toyota.

Find a receiver from a 04-06 DC tundra and honestly I think any will work as long as it’s DC. If you don’t have a key fob (remote with lock/unlock function) the TOYOTA # is 89742-0C020. Although I used an off brand one and its been working fine. Install the keyless receiver into plug and find a video on how to put your vehicle into “programming mode” for new key fob. If there are issues with this the box you have pulled from the junk yard or bought off eBay may have the maximum of 4 key fobs already programmed to it. There is a way to put the truck into “delete the memory off the key receiver” but honestly it may be worth to go to a mechanic with Techstream (or buy it yourself) to remove the memory and add new key fobs. It’s incredibly easy with the software. Highly recommend rather than attempting the sequence with lock/unlocking door and key in ignition. I digress.

If your key fob is accepted, good work you got it. I will make another post/rant about my findings on the current wiring fiasco on this 2WD tundra as a separate thread.

    If you’re using Techstream.
    “Connect to vehicle”
    “Body ECU”
    “Utility”
    “Wireless code registration”
    Follow the prompts.
If your key fob doesn’t work at this point make sure it has a good battery, if so. Then you have the wrong key Fob. Find Toyota part # 89742-0C020
Or a off-brand specifically for tundra. i do not know the specific FCC #s for the correct remote that you need but someone on here might know that already. I’m not risking the hassle and bought a pre-owned OEM key fob as Toyota wants your arms and leg.

Parts I used for adding keyless entry to a truck that didn’t come with it.

    89741-0C020 door control receiver

Also, if you’re cringing at the price of one of these boxes (door control receiver) don’t be line this guy and install a Chinese remote engine start computer into his truck.

    Ouch @ that last pic.

This is why I was confused and posted what I did earlier in reply # 3. Additionally, if you wanted to add the TVIP system for alarm, it's also plug-and-play. I believe there's one add'l ECU, then the glass break sensor.

I also notice, it looks like your truck has the wiring for seat heaters taped up under the center console too. 4th pic in your post. At least, I think it is. I'd need to dig into the EWD, but I think that's the bundle I saw in previous posts where folks were adding heated seats.

Here's the compatibility list for the parts you listed - I'm actually interested to see what the AC/RC trucks used now. I'd expect the same part, but clearly, it's not the case.

Well actually the truck has the TVIP i believe...Im not certain though but when i press "panic" the truck goes off, but ill try to "arm" the alarm today to see if the truck does have the "Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection" ECU. Well, just checked it and no it doesn't have TVIP...while i have the dash taken apart, i might go and pull that off of the parts truck. Might as well! Yes im curious about the AC/RC trucks as well. I have a DC myself and buddys trucks are all DC, so i cannot speak on them. But per the EWD's, theyre very similar but not exact. I found that alot of the pin-out numbers for wiring was different for some features. Yeah Im pretty sure you're correct @shifty` about the heated seats harnesses. I am almost certain that AC/RC would have a different door control receiver as you're only able to unlock 2 doors vs the 4. I think there has to be some difference, but I am not certain.

Hey @shifty` Do you know where the TVIP on 2005-2006 DC would be?? I looked through all the EWD's and diagrams, the AC/RC trucks clearly show "TVIP ECU" but not the DC prints. Everything having to do with theft deterrent system are going through the Body ECU. Now im assuming I wont be able to install alarm unless I change that, which isnt worth the risk of wires being pinned in different places (as ive experienced with this truck already) another post about that is in the works. The only sign of "TVIP ECU" under DC prints is a pink wire going from pin 11 labeled "STA" on Engine Control Unit. I will still look at the parts truck today and see if i can see a computer where the AC/RC trucks have it i think mounted to the metal bar under dashboard.

Actually, it's funny you mention this... Because I complained about it recently, in digging through the EWDs, I could only find the TVIP ECU on the AC/RC EWD and/or FSM. I commented that over here. Note the "Except double cab" at the top of the page snippet (I think this is from the FSM). So it's possible DC are sharing the Sequoia configuration+wiring+modules and AC is something else. But note on the right-hand side of the gauge cluster, middle cab pic for AC/RC loc.

@BubbaW posted some interesting info about TVIP in the earlier models over here too.

I'd try to find the Sequoia FSM for the same year as your truck and hunt the phrase "TVIP". It's possible it's rolled into the BCM as you may've eluded to in your reply.

You would be correct on both accounts. They added that as a new feature for the 04 DC models and assume it carried over to the 05/06 ?.

This post is to prove the search function works.

I have a fobless-key and almost bought an alarm system to get keyless entry. Turns out I DO have the little red box. Time to order a new key FOB and get to work.
    Thanks for this!!

    Added keyless entry
New to me Tundra 2006 Double cab owner. I can confirm that the info posted above describing adding OEM keyless entry controller (found a used one on Ebay) DOES work as described. It took a while for me to drill down here and on other posts to learn that the keyless fobs have a DIFFERENT FCC identification from the controller. I spent 2 days scouring the net looking for fobs with the same FCC ID as the controller. As i later learned, the FCC ID is unique to a specific device, not for a set of devices that work together. My controller is as described above (PN: TN251300-0852 with FCC ID: HYQ13BBL) and the wiring plug was taped to the side of the area as described behind the ash tray and took only a few seconds to free it up and attach the controller. I was able to tuck the controller away in the void behind the ashtray by removing the radio/AC controller bezel. The keyfobs I ordered also from ebay (2 new generic fobs for $12.95 total) and they were advertised to work with FCC IDs: "HYQ12BBX, HYQ12BAN, 89742-20200". It took only a few minutes to go through the pairing procedure for both fobs and they work without any other issues. I found a great video on you tube that describes the process for programming the fobs once the controller is plugged in and in place: https://youtu.be/Vmm61z_uy8M?si=Gs4Uze8eJWq4LNDe

Thank you to all the original posters that made this info available.

Wow, this is the most and best information I've seen about the keyless entry. I've been trying to find something like this for 5 dang years. Awesome group of people.
