2023 TRD Pro. 21k miles. 5k miles towing a 8k lb toy hauler from SC to Utah and back. Some decent off road miles on jeep trails in Colorado and Utah.

Fixed horrible factory alignment at 7k miles at local 4x4 shop. Installed 34.5" Nitto Recon Grappler and wearing perfectly 14k miles later.

Only other "issue" is rear parking sensor came loose from bumper. Was double sided taped from factory. Went back with better tape job and its fine 10k mi later.

For the first 15k mi and all towing was done on 87 octane and 7-8k oil change intervals (Mobil One). Recently shifted to 93 octane and going to 5-7k oil change intervals mostly due to increased worry about main bearing issue due to this forum. Average ~18 mpg on most longer trips with new tires. 7-9 mpg towing Toy Hauler.

This is my 5th tundra. 08',12',14' 21' were also flawless with no issues.

I typically try and trade out after a year or two (since 2020) with typical Toyota resale making it easy, but seems I timed this one wrong. Have been looking at F-250 diesel and Raptors a little. Was first on list for 24' Land Cruiser First Edition but passed at nearly $80k. Great truck and with resale in the dump it may just be a keeper like my 2014 that I kept until 100k miles.

mileage as of this post : 6859
    fuel ups : 43 @ 550 gals @ $1849 @ 87 octane only
oil changes : 1200 miles, 5000 miles (will continue every 5k miles)
mods : $5100 (tires, wheels, bed cover, interior/exterior cosmetic mods, see signature for details)

    1. randomly resets to full (its happening a lot less now, maybe once a month at most)
    2. initial phone pairing was a pita (had to use the SoS method)

outside of the one on going issue of the fuel gauge resetting, nothing else that hasn't been resolved with TSB.

2024 Platinum HV. About 2200 miles.

Spending a lot of time at the dealership....because some assclown drilled a hole in my gas tank a few months ago and it took a month to get a new tank and I discovered earlier this week the mechanism for the fuel door is also messed up from said assclowns prying it open and messing up both the door mechanism and the vent. Currently awaiting approval from insurance to put the repairs on the same claim.

Otherwise, only one hiccup with a defective catalytic converter, small steering wheel defect, and a piece of window trim that had a broken clip or something. All fixed within 24 hours at my local dealership who does a great job of taking care of me.

    No major issues at all.

Love the truck and its capabilities. It's also comically fast due to the electric motor which is fun as someone that loves EVs for the same reason.

As someone who pays attention to issues (major to me on a $60,000+ truck), I am shocked out how many folks are having and shrugging them off as nothing with low mileage and time of ownership. I will be steering clear of new and used ones until they get this all sorted out.

So you'll be steering clear of them until they're literally flawless in every minor regard?

What amount of money do you expect someone to pay to receive a machine with thousands of moving parts and electronics with zero flaws?

So none of you have had the squealing brakes issue? I do hope that is minor, although there is a TSB on it now which would indicate a wider problem.

$38,000. That is what I paid for this 2018. Zero issues, no recalls or TSBs in 7,000 miles/ 8 months of ownership.

Maybe in 2031 or after I can expect the same, hopefully not $100,000 price then?

2003 Honda Element, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes
2001 Toyota Tacoma, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes
2007 Toyota Sequoia, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes
2018 Ford Expedition, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes
2021 Toyota Sienna, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes (didn't have it long enough to say great but longer than many with issues on this list)
2022 Ford Edge, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes (didn't have it long enough to say great but longer than many with issues on this list)
2018 Toyota Tundra, zero repairs outside of brakes, tires oil changes (haven't it long enough to say great but longer than many with issues on this list)

I mean, it's probably got SOME kind of issue that you either haven't caught or just ignore because it's "minor enough" to you and you already own the vehicle.

But you're right, it's a $60k+ truck, and as such, I and others decide to use the warranty provided to us to get these minor things fixed for free because it was $60k+.

For example, I didn't pay a cent for the $2000 steering wheel that Toyota replaced simply because I could feel a tiny bump in the leather in a non-visible spot. Because again, why should I have to feel that little bump in a $60k purchase. No biggie on either end.

2014 K1600GTL, second owner. Got it from my dad with 10K on the clock. It's a pretty nice scooter when it's running right. At 18K I started getting an intermittent misfire on one zylinder. Replaced all six coils, parts were $1320. Just turned over 28K last month.

All vehicles will be like the kraut burners soon. The cost to repair and maintain will be so high it makes economic sense to buy a new one at < 100k miles. Sell the old one to a posser who can't afford a new one and let them become homeless trying to pay the maintenance on the old one

    The American way.

No issues at all. The previous owner babied it and had a very extensive list of maintenance. The only issue which is normal for them is the 15mpg average. Seriously you would think this was a new truck except missing all the new electronics to over come distracted driving.

I am starting to believe all manufacturers are going down hill in long term reliability for all the electronics and complexity they are putting in new vehicles. That is why I traded the 2022 Ford back in for something with a darn good track record. I wasn't using them and also don't think it would make it for a decade.

Fixed it for you. How many Prius, Corrola, Camry, Highlanders, etc. are also having this many initial quality issues?

My 2017 Tacoma had a blower motor recall and also needed the third brake light replaced. Also had the gear hunting that is known to affect 3rd gens. My 2021 Tacoma had the gear hunting issue even after Toyota revamped the issue. Overall the 3rd Gen Tacoma is considered to be a pretty reliable platform. Doesn’t mean it didn’t have its flaws. No vehicle is perfect and even the second gen had its issues on launch. But you are right they definitely aren’t being built like the used to be. I don’t think it’s so much a lack of manufacturing, I think it’s a lack of skilled labor and a lack of people not giving a shit. It’s clock in and clock out and then move to the next company when you get a 50 cent raise. Corporations don’t care about employees so why bother going above and beyond anymore. Still too early to tell the long term reliability of the 3rd Gen and it’s either going to be crap or solid. We can go back and forth all day long about issues and if most trucks have them or not. Only time will tell and hopefully Toyota gives a little more insight to what is going on.

Shocked, really? My old LC has had common issues I’ve dealt with and fixed. Do you see the world screaming “Land Cruisers are crap, steer clear, run for the hills”. Nope, special operation groups around the world rely on and trust them daily.

let’s keep this on track here

@cmiles97 see post 32 above. Your truck has indeed had recalls. Only faulty air bags, power steering and oil leaks, electrical overheating and fuel pump stuff tho. Then see the NHTSA thread I just posted to see where the 2018 falls.

There are videos all over youtube and message boards about having to replace the motors and Toyota just shipping the block and having to relocate everything over to the new block. I mean every new model has issues, Toyota is no different, the build quality is still better than Ford, Chevy or Dodge. So, I believe the people you are crying are the older Gen 1 - 2.5 model owners, like Toyota is magically going to replace their older models with more powerful, fuel-efficient alternatives.

If the Alzheimer's in charge of the country wins re election then you probably will see $100k plus trucks real soon.
