In order to cleanly and most efficiently change my oil, I purchased the RCI skid, a Fumoto valve (with tubes), and the MotivX kit.

I change my oil in the driveway so minimizing the potential for oil slips is essential. Secondly my employer could care less about anything but their needs. Families do not matter let alone vehicle maintenance. So when I am not getting forced to work I need to quickly be able to change the oil.

Financially speaking the things I bought are not necessary BUT in my case it factually saves significant time…which is another essential goal for me.

Lazy, not lazy, spoiled, not spoiled…doesn’t matter to me because many people are incapable of even looking in the manual to see what grade there vehicle takes let alone changing ANY fluids.

I love doing my own oil change. Skid plate really isn't bad at all once you get used to it. I like to get a jack under it and lower it out of the way rather then just unbolting it and trying to hold it up like hercules :militarypress:And once you find the balance point of the skid plate you can mark it with paint or something so then you know exactly where to put the jack next time. I've got some really good oil change shops in my area but I still like to do it myself unless I'm super busy. And if you can change your engine oil yourself that means you can change your Diff fluid and Transfer case fluid yourself too so have fun out there

Are you torquing to 18/9? I haven’t had the issue since I went back to plastic. People swap to metal because of the stories of frozen canisters that crack and break. That won’t happen if the torque specs are followed.

This exactly! Doesn't matter which one you get, it's about stopping the oil from flying all over the place when you pull the drain plug.

It takes longer to pull the front tire off and clean the oil off the brake, wheel, and suspension than it does to do the oil change, ask me how I know.:censored:

Not sure what it was torqued to since I had a shop install it prior to me starting doing the oil changes. I'll make sure those specs are used for sure when I switch back to plastic.

Because both my GX460 and Tundra take just over 8 quarts and shit goes everywhere when draining. My last oil change shot oil all over the tire, rotor, frame, etc. Never again haha.

Having it on the rear diff makes no sense as it sits much lower and has the potential and hitting something and breaking off. The front diff and transfer case have little fluid and doesn’t go everywhere.

Either way if people use them and like them it’s all good and if you don’t it’s all good.

Put a door on your skid plate and make filter change’s easy. 22D0992E-D76D-4233-B05A-C5A2565511EE.jpg25862189-7D07-4403-AF14-4BB5B0512267.jpg

So, what would be wrong with just cutting out a window in the skid plate and not making a door or putting the cut out piece back? I don't off-road and what are the chances of road debris or anything going right up in that window and breaking anything? My Ford had a canister filter right on the front center in almost the same spot and it had no skid plate. I might do this and just call it a cooling port or until I can afford the RCI skid.

I know other's have used a 6" hole saw and left it. The skid plate is not really heavy duty.

A decent amount of people complaining about leaking with that Valvomax design. Reading the reviews on Amazon. IMO, I’d stick with Fumoto. Been out a long time and are proven.

Have had no issues with mine. Doesn't mean there can and won't be but so far this thing has done its job.

I also used to hate taking the skid plate off to change the filter. The first oil change after I went to the metal filter housing I figured out I could reach in from the side without removing the skid plate and get to the filter. It's a one handed operation but it's less time and annoyance than removing the skid plate and cheaper than an aftermarket or TRD Prod skid plate.
I half lay down on my left side and skooch in until I can reach the filter housing with my left hand. From there it's a one handed operation to drain the housing remove and replace. I start the fumoto draining into the regular drain pan, then drain the filter housing into a separate small container. I first tried this with the front up on ramps and I could mostly sit but now I just do it with no ramps and lay on the ground. The creeper shaped folding pad from harbor freight works well.

Plenty of happy reviews as well, including yours. It’s another viable product. Until the Fumoto let’s me down, I think I’ll stay with it.

Just buy something like this. The auto parts store will happily empty it and return it to you every time.
