My kids were asking how many fouls someone has hit in a single plate appearance. I had to look it up, so here is some trivia for you:

The most foul balls in a PA occurred 7/23/1988, when Kevin Bass flew out to left field against Steve Bedrosian in the 8th inning after fouling off 15 pitches, with the PA going FBFBFFBFFFFFFFFFFFX.

Three PAs involved 14 fouls, with the most notable among these being Alex Cora against Matt Clement in the 7th on 5/12/2004, when Cora hit a 2-run homer to right after battling BCBFFFFFFFFFFFFFFX.

And this is just amazing, one of the other 14-foul PAs: there is one unusual record in this category that is likely to never be broken. Philadelphia outfielder Richie Ashburn, who played from 1948-62, was known for his ability to prolong at-bats by fouling off pitches. During one such at-bat in Philadelphia, he fouled off 14 pitches. One of them struck a woman who was sitting in the stands, breaking her nose. While she was being carried off on a stretcher, she was hit by a second foul ball from Ashburn during the same at-bat.

Ok didn't watch this game either and Houston won again so it's in the stars that I don't watch this series. DVR is my friend.

That being said, this was sick:

McCormick, Mancini… Peña pulled a couple of great plays out. This was a defensive showcase that helped HOU nip a 2nd game in hostile territory. PHI fans shouldn’t have jacked with the Mack. Big mistake.

Yeah that and the pick at 1st base saved Houstons night. It was a great game that could have gone either way. Houston now in the drivers seat

Paying off the the debts of everyone who bought a mattress from him is nothing new for those of us who know and love him. He's a local icon here and does more for Houstonians than any other single person.

Years ago his store burned down and he was going to call it quits. The city rallied, held fundraisers, and helped him rebuild. He's never forgotten that.

Back in the 80s I remember him just getting started real good. He made money quickly and the Livestock Show and Rodeo used to be even bigger than it is today if you can believe that. Red Adair and a couple others were Kings at buying live stock (like the champion steer). Along comes Mac and he started bidding and prices went thru the roof, and he started to be the high bidder and ole Red and the locals did not like that!! He was the new kid on the block! Now he is a huge part of Houston,!! during storms people could stay at his stores and he would give furniture to just about anyone that needed it. To this day he puts on a feed at Thanksgiving and continues to be a fixture in the Houston area. I know of him because he supports a local foundation that is Catholic based. Ole Mac is a generous soul!!!

And yes he supports the Astros and always has!!:)

He hosted first responders after Hurricane Harvey. A lot of them hadn't slept in over 24 hours and were exhausted so he told them to come sleep on the mattresses in the showroom. He's a true humanitarian.
